Nola's has a fantastic lunch. It's not priced too high and the food is delicious. I went with three of my coworkers and had the Fried Eggplant sandwich. It was perfect. I had it with chips, and, which were good, but next time I think I'll pay the extra for the fries. My coworkers ordered fries and they looked amazing. Went last night for dinner at 6:00pm on a Tuesday night. When we arrived there were two people sitting at the bar and three tables occupied. No one waiting. I am on vacation from Southern California and visiting family in central New York. As part of a special occasion dinner, my cousins and I went to Nola's on Saturday, December 29. There were 7 people in our party and when we called in advance, we were told reservations were only taken for parties of 12 or larger. We went to Nola's earlier than we would have liked so that we would not have to wait for a table. We were seated immediately and our server, Lake, couldn't have been nicer. The food was great and the timing of appetizers, salads and main courses was excellent. The entire group ordered dessert and coffee, as well. As we lingered over our coffee the bill was brought and we promptly paid. It was at this point that the bartender (who possibly was acting as manager that evening) came over to our table and asked us to leave! Her excuse was that they needed to seat another large party and we were welcome to continue our conversation in the bar. I was shocked and aghast at the rudeness of the request. Most of us hadn't even finished our coffee, and no offer of a complimentary drink at the bar was even offered in order to compensate or appease us after such an insulting request. My family who lives in the Clinton area will never patronize Nola's again. There are many excellent, independent restaurants to choose from, and Nola's will not survive if they continue to value turning tables more than their paying customers. read more

I was really excited to try this place after a recommendation from The Tayor and the Cook where I had a great meal the night before. I stopped by Nola's for lunch before leaving the area on a business trip. Outdoor seating was nice to enjoy the weather and see the town. I found the menu to be a little limited and not overly creative. The quality of the dish I had was just fine, just not a whole lot of pop there. This could be due to the fact my expectations were set rather high I suppose. The wine list was so so, not overly extensive but had some interesting options. Same on the beer options. I would probably checkout some of the other options in town and then cycle back to Nola's. read more

Between three and four stars for Nola's, one of the more contemporary and comfortable places in rural central New York- likely why the place was packed on a random Thursday evening. The restaurant has a great look. Modern and comfortable, yet well lit with big windows perfect to look out on the sweet central village green in Clinton. Wood and exposed brick accents, and spotlessly clean, all make for a very nice experience. Their impressive and creative menu featured some surprises and some "almost wins" on the night we visited. The duck was a hit (though slightly more rare than usual), lightly seared and served with a few (incredible) sweet, al dente, potato gnocchi. Those gnocchi could be a dish in themselves. The short rib was a sight to behold, served on the bone with a demi glacé reduced to smooth perfection over creamy parsnip mash. Both were impressive dishes. Less inspirational were the salmon, seared and served with bok choy and rice; and spaghetti with lobster in a rich buttery sauce with spinach. Both were well conceived, but the bok choy needed a few more minutes to cook, and the pasta (especially at the $30+ price point) should have been fresh, not dried from a box, to do the dish justice. It was a bit of a shame to pair that amazing sauce with anything less than fresh linguine or fettuccine. We didn't taste, but we saw the NY strip and the pierogies go by and both looked incredible, as did the creme brûlé. Nola's is definitely worth a visit, but not if you're in a hurry. Took a bit longer than expected for dinner to come out. And the servers were a little anxious to turn the table. But if you find yourself in Clinton, NY and are craving an urban dining experience, this is about as close as it comes. We'll be back. read more

Visiting a friend and she suggested this place, right off the Clinton town square, on an early Thursday January evening. Sweet brick/wood interior, with modern flourishes. Our attentive waitress started our meal with outstanding cockails ( an old fashioned and a cleverly updated spritzer), followed by lamb and spinach mini turnovers...could have eaten those succulent, savory bits all night. My friend ordered the halibut entree, and I chose the roast duck. Both were served with couscous. Her fish was lighter and more delicate than angel wings, while my canard was crispy on the outside, juicy and rich on the inside, just as it should be. We had such generous portions, we had to box the leftovers. We were, however, not gonna pass on dessert, no matter how stuffedt: tri- citrus layer cake ( lemon cake, lime curd filling, grapefruit icing) and ooey-gooey cider donut bread pudding. Of course, we couldn't finish, and the leftover goodies were also boxed. Leaving Nola's, balancing our brown parcels, and stepping into a whirlwind of soft snowflakes & twinkling store lights, we couldn't help feeling at peace with the planet. read more

Excellent meal at Nola's. I recently ate there with three in our party on a recent weekend. The tables were all full, so we ate at the bar. The meal was delicious. Prices a bit above mid-range and certainly a popular place with really nice and efficient employees. Decor trendy and interesting. This is not our first trip to Nola's. We have dined for dinner on at least 3 separate occasions and every time we leave, our feelings are mediocre at best. We are in our late twenties and do not mind the noisy ambience and close seating. To us that makes for a more intimate experience to be able to talk without fear of others listening to the conversation. The decor has a modern feel to it with exposed brick that we love. The service feels very rushed. The waiters appear to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. You can actually hear the stomping of feet throughout the entire dinner service. As for the food... I feel this is where Nola's lacks. Nola's pricing is on par with the areas comparable restaurants such as Tailor and the Cook and The Willows- however the entrees are large and the sides they come paired with are bland and do not complement the feature well. We have tried multiple different dishes and even specials and have left each time feeling disappointed. The appetizers are usually the most flavorful and it would almost serve the restaurant better to have a tapas menu. I'm sorry Nola's, we really tried to love you. read more

First visit to a nice restaurant. Good food; good service; decent prices; excellent coffee (a must). The space started out as a decent coffee shop some years ago and now is a very good restaurant. VERY eclectic menu. Mostly modern American style; interesting sauces and dressings. Nola's has a diverse menu for a small place; variety of salads and sounds plus an array of entrees. Nice surprised to see lamb on the menu. First restaurant in this area to give you the first basket of bread and charge -- just $1 -- for the second. Didn't take that NYC trend to reach Clinton. Nice touch: grass-fed, local beef for hamburger with vlue chheese and shiitake mushrooms. Interesting item: lemon tofu in puff pastry topped with asparagus. I stopped in with a colleague while doing some work up in Utica. They recommended Nola's so we came down to pick up some sandwiches. We assumed it was more of deli but it turned out to be a nice sit down restaurant. Regardless they took our orders for a Nola Burger and the Tuscan Turkey. The burger is overpriced and I am pretty sure the bun was wrong. Looked like a smushed wonder bread roll instead of Brioche. It was cooked as ordered but lacked flavor. Lobster Mac n cheese for 28 bucks also not worth it. Kinda short on the lobster for 28 dollars but the flavor was great. Ended up going to Nola's on a whim. It had been quite some time since we were there last and remembered everything being good. There was almost no one in the restaurant or at the bar, it seemed like a relatively slow Thursday. It took about 5 minutes for someone to come over and seat us, after seated another 5-10 minutes before we were even offered water or a drink menu. After looking over the drink menu we ordered a couple glasses of wine and an appetizer. We ordered the Crab spring rolls which came out very quickly. We sat and looked at those for another 10 minutes waiting for our waitress to come back so we could ask for plates and silverware. My spring roll had no crab at all and my fiance's had a few pieces - for a $14 appetizer my expectations were higher. We then both ordered burgers which came out in a reasonable amount of time, they were cooked just as ordered and the fries were great. About halfway through my meal I was out of Wine and the waitress did not come back once to check on us. I got sick of waiting and walked up to the bar to order a drink. The bartender happily obliged and 15 minutes later I had my drink... For the $100 price tag for a meal I expect more, much more. Cute little place in Clinton. The wine bar - Annex - is right next door so it's nice to head over for dessert after dinner. It's usually always packed here so make reservations. The menu is limited but options are good and adhere to seasons. I got the salmon and my boyfriend had the duck. They have a dessert with the Clinton cider mill donut and ice cream. SO GOOD! waitress was nice little blonde girl. Big windows. A nice get away from chain restaurants. Would recommend for a nice dinner. Nola's sources ingredients from super legit vendors, and they know how to make it taste so so so delicious. Expensive dining, but decent quality of food. We got the Brie Roasted with caramelized dates and walnuts, rosemary crostini, orange dust as an entrée, and it was amazing, I would definitely recommend that as a first dish. Quantity-wise, not great, but that's to be expected with those fine dining restaurants. I got the chicken Nola as a main dish, and it was okay, nothing to brag about (unlike the bree entrée). The dessert was very disappointing though, especially for me. I ordered the tiramisu triffle, and it tasted nothing like tiramisu. It wasn't particularly good either; barely had any coffee taste to it to be quite honest. My girlfriend got the floureless chocolate cake, and that one was pretty good. read more

I absolutely love everything this restaurant does. The ambience, service, food and drinks are fantastic. I love that the location is on the village green, and that the menu is as local and seasonal as possible (featuring summer stuff from the Clinton Farmers' Market and fall stuff from the Clinton Cider Mill!). The owners are wonderful, generous people who believe in their business, and who have added to the town by also opening The Annex Wine Bar next door. Disappointing Unfortunately our meal overall was very disappointing. The ambience of Nola's is very good, the service was very good but most of the food was poor. The 'special starter' was good, we had Seared Scallops and Pork Belly with Cider Reduction, Apple Salad and Jalapeño Polenta Croutons The scallops (2) were well cooked and tender. The accompanying apple salad and Polenta Croutons were also good. The Pork Belly was tasty although somewhat black from being 'torched' too much. The cider reduction was drizzled on the plate and a little sparse. We then had the house salad. Regrettably I sent mine back, there were several rotten spots on the leaves and quite a lot of brown discoloration. My salad had one small cherry tomato cut in half and a sprinkling of grated carrot on the top. My wife kept her salad but left most of it. Not a lot of effort had been made to produce a fresh crispy appetizing salad. For my entrée I decided to try the Ricotta Chive Dumpling with thyme gravy, roasted baby carrots, leeks and asparagus, lemon marinated trumpet mushroom and snow pea salad. The food was well presented and looked appetizing however, the Chive Dumplings were somewhat solid and stodgy. If they had Chives or Ricotta you would have never known. They were pretty tasteless and bland. The thyme gravy appeared to be based on tomato soup and again not a hint of thyme flavor. The mushrooms did not taste as if they had been marinated. My roasted baby carrots looked pretty grown up to me and boiled not roasted. I did like the asparagus shoots but try as I might I could not find any leeks. The snow pea salad was crispy and good. Overall uninspiring and bland. My wife chose the grilled lamb loin chops, charred green onion chimichurri, asparagus, and red quinoa. Again the food was well presented and looked appetizing. The lamb was requested to be medium and 'pink', however the chops were overcooked, tough and chewy. The chimichurri and red quinoa could have come straight from a supermarket pot and did not add sparkle to this dish. The asparagus was good. My wife managed to eat the meat from half of a chop before deciding to take the rest home for our dog. This was a great disappointment as we were looking forward to this meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Nola's has great service, friendly staff and a wonderful restaurant atmosphere. It is a great pity that the food served on this occasion let the side down. read more

My annual Nola's birthday dinner was enjoyed at home for a second year. However, the quality of the meal transcended the sleek, comforting and welcoming atmosphere that is Nola's. They offered a special of braised short rib in red wine sauce for the evening and it really was a special dish. I had a knife that remained unused for the duration as the meat slipped cleanly off of the bone. Perfectly braised. As wonderful as the entree was the appetizer, for me, stole the show. The Gorgonzola Waldorf salad was an inspired take on an often overlooked classic. The raw ingredients combined perfectly with the honey yogurt dressing and creamy Gorgonzola. The use of kale in place of lettuce provided body and a vessel for the remaining ingredients of apples, grapes, pepitas and celery. This is not your grandmother's Waldorf. Sophisticated, flavorful and memorable. Thank you to the entire staff and family that is Nola's. And thanks to my wife for gifting the meal. Lots of love. read more

No one says hello or I'll be right with you ( no host at the stand, servers and backservers walking past me)..I spend a lot of money every time I come in and every time i go I leave feeling almost as if I was bothering them by even being there. this is one of those reviews that pains me to write. since other reviewers were so effusive in their praise for nola's we decided to give it a try - driving from cazenovia (1.5 hours away) for a special occasion dinner. the place is in a lovely location and the interior is simple and tasteful and we were seated quickly. that's where the happiness ended. the restaurant was perhaps 2/3 full but you would have thought there was an hour wait with a completely unprepared and harried staff. our waitress arrived, told us the specials, returned with our drink orders, and then took our dinner order - appetizer to split, entrees from a menu that looked quite good. then.... uh... nothing. drinks were drained, stomach's growling, none of the promised "bread basket," nothing. we waited literally 45 minutes for the appetizer, dropped off by another person who sped away without refilling drinks. appetizer done then, again, nothing. for another 30 minutes. salad? nope. bread? nope. drink refills? nope. explanation for the MIA status of food and waitress? nope. ridiculous. finally, after being there for over an hour and a half with one drink and a split appetizer and no hope of anything else i flagged our waitress. she was quite kind when i told her we wanted our check - that we were done. our tab (such as it was) was comped but, really, that's it? no explanation for why the problem occurred - just us leaving hungry, frustrated and vowing to not return. read more

I was really impressed with Nola. Went entirely on the view from outside and the one positive previous Yelp post, and I have to say it exceeded all expectations. Scrumptious tempura chicken with basil and curry, red snapper with fennel risotto, and bottle of pinot noir (Wild Horse?). Also very reasonably priced, with warm and friendly service. As a student in the area, Nola's is a staple. This is the place I always take my parents when they come. If it is busy you can sit next door and enjoy a glass of wine in the wine bar. I have never been disappointed with a meal there. The cider mill donut bread pudding is to die for. read more

We feel so lucky to have a nice restaurant in town--sweet wait staff, nice decor, good daily soups and bread, love the sweet potato fries, beet salad, and fried fish when they offer it--maybe fewer stars if it was in NYC with stiff competition--but for around here it's a godsend ;-) and we love it. read more
