I hate giving bad reviews for small businesses but holy shit this place needs to be shut down ASAP. It's straight up animal abuse. All the animals are kept in horrible conditions. I won't even go into detail because all the other reviews here cover it. How El Monte is letting this place stay open is unbelievable. The last straw was when we went to look at the hamsters. 2 of them were fighting and rolling around and I noticed blood. We told the employee or owner, an older asian guy, and he said "they're just playing." Sorry dude there's blood. That's not playing. I can't figure out how to post videos but here's a screenshot of the video I took with the hamsters laying there-- half dead. I felt sickened and just left. I wanted to almost buy them just to get them out of that hell hole but that meant the money would go into their pockets... and they'd just continue the cycle. Best thing we can do? I own 5 guinea pigs and consider myself an expert on guinea pig care. But tell me why this little guy died approximately 9 hours after purchase? He looked about 2-3 months old, the smallest piggy i've ever seen. Put him in a fleece lined enclosure with water, hay, and veggies. When i checked on him for the final time his eyes were completely white and his little body had hardened. So sad my little sister had to see him die so quickly, I am glad i did not have a name for him yet or i really would have been attached to him. I have seen similar reviews about others purchasing small pets from Noah's Ark and suffering from sudden deaths. I don't know if it's the transportation or confined cages but their animals are sick. read more

If anyone is from the El Monte area this place Noah's arc ,I use to go when I was younger and I came in today just to look and I regret it so much I know it's a small business that's been there for years but honeslty he doesn't care for that place nor the animals at this point it's sad for him to continue to keep it open the more time he has it open the more animals he brings in for them to suffer like the poor balding birds and the reptiles and geckos other animals. I don't own anyway reptiles in my life but the gecko in the front store window had no water and I looked on its last days bc it looked skinny and dehydrated due to no water it hurt me very much I really wanted to buy it just to save it but I don't know how to take care of one and I'm not in the position to take one in but if anyone is in that area please give it a second chance and as a community to call animal services to make this place close. I came in looking for a pineapple conure to pair with the conure I had at home and Alex provided outstanding customer service and was a very knowledgeable bird keeper. However, the owners aren't so friendly and welcoming but Alex was the reason I decided to do business here. My conure was a baby when I put a deposit down and waited for him to be able to eat on his own, Alex took care of my bird and made sure to update me on his progress weekly. Worse place ever , I bought a Tortoise for my grandson for Christmas and it passed away with in days the first tree days tortoise eyes were closed ,would not eat and did not move much after he moved for 45 minutes family observed he just past away, Yesterday eyes were swollen, head was dropped , As I attempted to contact owner told he was not available finally today some employee over step his boundary when I called claiming that he would not help or reimburse me and he has currently no tortoise as I said I am going to report you for selling sick animals he became very aggressive and included told me that if I ever come near his store even the side walk that he would call authorities little does he know that he does not own the streets . That just shows us how well tamed and taken care of they are by the owners and workers! Yesterday I decided to go back to buy a beak Perch and walked out with a sun cheek conure!!! My review is based off of the condition of the living animals in their care. For a small "mom and pop" I would think the animals would be treated better. I grew up visiting this place as a kid. Less that two weeks ago, my family decided that it would be a good idea to bring in a new family member, Charlotte, who was a female dwarf bunny. She was about 8 inches long and just fairly small in general. She seemed to be very young, maybe as old as 1-2 months. It has been a little over a week since we brought her into our home and we found her not moving in her cage this morning. We did all the things that the employee told us was best for her and we avoided all the things he told us not to do. The store in general seem very dirty, and contained a smell probably coming from the poorly cleaned cages. THE ONLY REASON THAT I GAVE THIS PET STORE A ONE STAR RATING IS BECAUSE A ZERO STAR RATING WAS NOT AN OPTION!!! This pet store is situated in downtown El Monte where you will need to find street parking during heavy hours of traffic especially during the weekends. If you are looking for cheap fish but the quality might not be as good you can come to Noah's Ark. The quality of the tanks are average, just today i saw some dead fishes floating with other fishes eating it away. However, the plus is that when they have large African Cichlids, they cost around $10 dollars which is a bargain! Petco sales them for $30ish and other stores around $15. But then again, I go somewhere else to look for a wide selection of fish. The funny thing about this place is that they have a health inspector sign "B". I guess they sell ice cream and snacks.. Odd to sell human food in a pet store. read more

I just come in here to see if the conditions have improved since this place is still open and it has an A rating but NOPE it's still disgusting!! Outright rude.... If I could, I'll give this place NO STARS at all!! I called in to check what time they open and was told that they open everyday at 10am. I explained to the guy over the phone my dilemma. I wanted to purchase goldfishes for a school fair that was being held at my work, but I clock in at 8am and since they don't open until 10am, I had a problem at hand. I was going to ask the person over the phone if the fishes would survive the night if I were to buy it the night before the school fair, but before I can even ask him anything, the person said in a very loud, rude and hurried manner that "he does not do that," and hung up right away. First of all, whatever happened to customer service and second, that is not how you do business or treat a customer. Let me just put it out there that I'm all for helping out small, mom and pop's shop, hence, my phone call to this particular shop in the first place, but if you are going to talk to a customer in that tone, I'd take my money elsewhere. In fact, I'll rather pay for an overpriced fish at a corporate Petco or PetSmart. At least I'll be treated nicely... It's not wonder why this business is barely surviving. In that tone/attitude, you'll never get a returning customer. 5 years ago I purchase a red belly parrot (Muppet) from this place.I did not know the bird was a red belly parrot till a few years after, because the bird was just labeled "parrot". The bird was In a old beat up rusty cage, it's to bad the people here don't know much about proper parrot nutrition. There was a bowl a water and a bowl of just sunflower seeds. Needless to say the bird found a spot with me and after months of changing the birds bad habit of a all sunflower seed diet. This Pet Shop is absolutely disgusting and should get shut down. The fish tanks are overcrowded and there are many rotting corpses in the foul water. There was a mocking bird for sale in a tiny cage with improper food offered. The store is also dirty and stocks old/expired pet foods and products. I recently visited here a couple of months ago and I was so horrified by the neglect these animals are getting. I thought it would be the same as looking through Petco and seeing all the cute animals but boy was I wrong. Many of the cages had feces, birds and hamsters breathing and living in their own filth. Overcrowded fish tanks and moldy unclean glass. I took a video of the guinea pigs, (who happened to be not in a cage but in a giant tub meant to be used as a storage bin for clothes) which is when I noticed 3 specific ones. 2 of the guinea pigs were fighting covered in blood, while the 1 in the middle was not moving, and looked to be wet, maybe with blood or urine I don't really know. The smell once you get to the back of the so hard to miss that I had to walk out because I couldn't stand to stay in there longer. The reason this pet store is so cheap is because the animals are so neglected and aren't worth buying, so please buy from certified breeders who know your animal will not die within a day of purchase. Do not give your money to this place that cannot afford to keep their animals healthy by giving them the proper vaccinations they need. read more

I'll be brutally honest here and say that I will be shopping here for our Guinea pigs food and hay, but only for the prices. I've bought tall bird cages from here on the past as well, and will probably do so again. As far as animals.. It's buyer beware. You honestly get what you pay for when you shop here. The place is a little while in the wall mom&pop store. I purchased crickets and a live baby mouse for my bearded dragon which was exciting because petco only selks em dead and frozen. They sell their crickets 12 for $1, sizes vary and are mixed so you cant ask specifically for small or large ones. They have a varying selection of fishes, a couple different kinds of reptiles, birds, bunnies reg & dwarfs, guinea pigs and some rodents. Their keep of the animals isnt top notch but they look fed and somewhat clean. Their animal supplies are priced nicely and affordable compared to mainstream pet stores. Customer service was good, workers were attentive when you need them but they don't come looking for to see if you need help. This pet shop is horrible for any pets, all pets being sold are in terrible living conditions. I've seen way over crowded hamster cages, fish tanks, and bird cages. The amount of animal waste building up in both the bird area and reptile area is contagious. First trip there and certainly will be my last due to the fact that animals aren't taken care of and the old man inside the shop won't do anything about it. We bought a Cockatiel three days ago and it was a great experience. Alejandro is very knowledgeable and patiently helped us with our many questions. Jim the owner was also very nice and we will give them all our future business. Our bird was depressed on day one at our house so I called the pet store to see if that was normal. Alejandro was not available but he called me back without me asking and assured us that our bird would be ok. He was right! Our bird (Pumpkin) is already part of our family and we love him very much. I come here to buy cheap betta fish and goldfish. I just feel kind of ripped off by Corporate Petco and Petsmart sometimes. I gave a friend a betta from here as a gift that grew to like " tall and lived for 4 years. It was freakin' amazing. What a champ! It's a nice hole in the wall pet store tucked away amidst the Hispanic shopping community of El Monte. They have a simple small selection of birds, rabbits, and reptiles as well.
