super cute little place. when we got there we found a seat in a tiny booth, and service was quick & friendly. I chose the enchiladas (veggie) and they were pretty good...but...remember that time your grade 10 boyfriend wanted to cook for you cuz his parents were out of town, so you went over, and he made you dinner, and you were impressed and told all your friends what a great chef he was? but when you think back to that meal it was just a bunch of basic stuff with a shitload of melted cheese on top. like, sooo much melted cheese, because that's just how teenage boys cook?My enchilada looked/tasted like that. ( I peeked around the corner to see if maybe it WAS my old grade 10 boyfriend in the kitchen, but sadly no.) It tasted good though, but just LOOKED insane and the portion size didn't seem right, and the amount of sauce on top drowned out the food underneath?!? you know what I mean? I'd definitely go back to this place to try something else though....great value for the huge portions. oh, and they seem to hate cell phones being used in the restaurant which I think is awesome. This is almost the best diner in the world. That I've been to so far. The one problem-- the name speaks the truth: The staff will expend no sweat in getting you your food. When I was there: Often fifteen or so people, two waitresses, and one cook who made every plate quite de-li-ber-ate-ly. But each time (I was there a month and went a lot) it was worth the wait. Buckwheat pancakes the size of my face, fluffy eggs cooked to perfection, and the always awesome "Rocky Mountain": potatoes, cheese, onions, and jalapenos--and everything was grown or produced in Montana! I took a friend here once, and she was impressed. No one rushed us through our meal, even though we took our time, which was nice. I wish they had a branch in Boston and one in Chicago. read more

I had a plate of hashed potatoes with cheese and sausage which were really solid (as well as way more food than I needed.) We were looking at a different restaurant for breakfast, but they were closed that day, so we went back to Yelp to see what was our plan B. We saw the No Sweat Cafe and it looked quaint from the pictures and menu items looked to be good so there we headed. The Server was a wonderful young lady with an extremely pleasant manner with all of the customers who were in the shop. The food was wonderful and went away with a smile on our faces. Two weeks on the road, and this was the best breakfast we had. Great food and coffee for a great price - especially considering what I pay for similar quality back in CA. The Tibetan Toad was rich and tasty (I was told) and my made-to-order omelette was better than I'd hoped for. Also loved the fresh, homemade hashbrowns. People are mentioning the slow service. We stumbled upon this little gem in downtown Helena via the wonderful YELP! reviews. It was a fantastic dining experience. We didn't have to wait - we went the Friday after the July 4 holiday. The food was fantastic as was the service. Our only regret was that they were closed on Monday, so we were unable to visit again before we headed back home. We went to No Sweat and were seated at a cozy table near the window pretty quickly on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. It is very cute and centrally located in downtown Helena. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful as we ordered custom omelets. My friend ordered a bunch of random side dishes and she didn't bat an eye. This is indeed the "no sweat" cafe--there is only one cook in a small kitchen! We waited about 30-45 minutes from when we ordered to get our food, so we were just starting to get a little antsy when everything came out. And it was worth it! Everything was absolutely perfectly done, exactly as we had ordered it. The omelets were cooked to perfection and chock-full of the veggies I'd ordered-no skimping there! The hashbrowns and toast that came with it were delicious as well. We actually went back the next morning, and were surprised to find that there are certain unwritten rules. There's no hostess at the restaurant--you simply wait outside (not inside!) until a table opens up. Once again, very informal, but the food is worth it. All in all, the wait really isn't that long, and the food is WELL worth it. We will be back! read more

Just to start, we like to support small local businesses when we can. But AVOID this place if you can help it. First to start, simple notepad to write your info on and that is it, the wait when we finally pinged someone we were told 15-30 minutes on a Sunday, which is fine, it is a VERY small place. Turns out that it was an 1 hour plus wait just to get seated. A lot of folks we viewed sitting in there just talking while we stood outside we thought were taking up booth time when there was a line of folks outside, turns out, they were waiting for their food. So one table we viewed during our extended wait, as we finally got a bench seat (that will be next up in explanation) to sit down had just gotten their food (so think 1 hour plus just to get seated, get some waters, look at the menu for a few, the other table finally got their food). The hostess who finally sat us, not apologetic or any verbal communication really to help us (or anyone standing in line outside) understand the crazy wait times put us in the this unbelievably small, single person, micro bench to fit two Adults and then asked "can you make this work"??. I had to bend my elbows and keep them bent once I squeezed in there (not kidding here). This place only takes cash/check (which is fine), so be aware of that IF you are attempting to eat here. Times are tough for small places, but really suggest you find some other place to eat. There were several of people who left right after us when we shared the experience we had inside....go to the WindBag Saloon & Grill right up the street instead (they were hopping, food was good and we saw many others who had been standing outside the Cafe eating here instead) and best of all, had a hostess who talked to us and we got a table right away. read more

Another Helena restaurant that I wish I could have packed up and brought back east. Interesting atmosphere with some cool art on the walls, great local tea, and half sizes of most of the dishes. I had a potato-broccoli-cheese plate that was just awesome: not too greasy, plenty of broccoli, perfectly cooked potatoes. It was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. And it was cheap, too! I was in town for a wedding and had a group of 7 looking for breakfast. So we decided to call and see what their availability was this morning. The person who answered the phone snappily answered that they do not take reservations and so I decided to ask what the wait was looking like. She then rudely responded, "you know that is the hardest question to answer in food service so why don't you just come in and give it a shot". Was passing through Helena and had planned on eating at a different nearby restaurant but they were closed so we stopped in at The No Sweat Cafe. Was super happy to see a Breastfeeding Friendly sign but that's about the end of our enjoyment. Small, cramped, and hot inside. It's a "pour it yourself" theme if you want lukewarm water. We arrived around 12:40, considering the size of the place, it wasn't overly full (maybe 8 or 9 other customers), placed our order at 12:50 (2 salads, 1 rice with broccoli and turkey, 1 kids rice with veggies, and a side of rice). 20 minutes in my son started misbehaving so I left to sit in the air conditioned car and my mother stayed with our friend to wait. We asked if our food could be put in to go containers as we still had a long drive ahead of us. At 1:25 our friend had to leave for an appointment and asked us to bring her salad by when it came out. I returned to tag out my mother at 1:35 so she could enjoy the cool car. At 1:54 our food came out on paper plates covered with foil. Now, it was hot and fresh, a little eclectic but I can see that now considering the establishment. Overall, if you don't mind an hour wait for some rice and salad, it's not bad. I understand the name now, that's for sure. Don't forget your checkbook or some cash, no cards accepted. read more

Ok, so this place is a really a hole in the wall. It is family run, only 1 cook and 2 wait staff. Cozy doesn't begin to describe how small the place is, horribly cramped is more like it. Like Matt says, the name is true, the staff are not in any kind of hurry here, If there are any more than 10-12 people in the place, you will wait a long while for your food. The menu is pretty extensive, but remember, breakfast and lunch only, it closes at 2:00. The food is pretty good, although sometimes I question the wait for it. This is a funky/hippy hole in the wall that has great food. Organic ingredients dominate, although sometimes there could be a bit more spice in the mix for my tastes. Service can be either great or terrible - I watched one woman come in, sit down, and never get waited on, only to leave without anyone noticing she was there. Notably, she was the only person in there other than my wife and I, and the waiter's buddy, sitting at the bar seating occupying the waiter's entire attention. They don't advertise the fact, but you can ask for half-servings of everything - this helps if you bring the little ones along. Since everything is cooked to order, they can accommodate special requests. All in all this is a great little cafe you can feel good about eating at. read more

Really cool, casual place. Feel is definitely local (long wait, slow service, sticky tables but no one seemed to mind, so I didn't). The crowd was fun to observe if you appreciate people watching. Prices are reasonable. The "foreign toad" dish was popular. I had "Oatmeal ala Paula" and a side of ham - really wanted one of the local dishes but just wasn't that hungry, so I kept it simple.
