Drove 20 miles to try their waffles and their waffle machine was broken. Coffee was OK but tasted a little over extracted. Muffin was far too sweet, it could have been blueberry pound cake. No texture whatsoever. If you're in Garner and want a coffee, it'll be fine. If you're in the surrounding area, it's not worth the trip. read more

This place is terrible. Ordered the sampler. Eggs had powdered sugar on them. Waffle was cold and had some weird spice in it like pumpkin pie spice. They gave me 1 pat of butter but it won't do much on a cold waffle. The syrup portion was enough for 1/4 of the waffle. My girlfriend ordered the same with eggs over medium and they were way over cooked. Its a coffee shop trying to be a restaurant and frankly I think it's not working. When I complained to the staff the girl said sorry and walked off. Never offered to refund my money. I guess $9 for the 2 pieces of bacon I ate makes sense. read more

The best coffee I have had since moving here and their food is amazing and so delicious BUT they HAVE to get their exhaust fan working! A local business, with friendly helpful staff. So much better than visiting the large chains. We have started to visit often, and now do our best to make Ugly Mug a part of every week - multiple times if we can. The food and drink are both freshly prepared, and the staff will do their best to accommodate any adjustments you want. The decor is quirky, but creates a friendly atmosphere suitable for families, friends or just hanging out on your own for reading or study. An unexpected local gem in an area surrounded with chains. I love their fun menu of drinks and have tried the portabello sandwhich, which was delicious. Even on busier days, the staff is friendly. So happy this place opened at 40/42. I went on my own for my first trip when I was on the way to the grocery store. Even 5 minutes to open there was already a line of 4 people ahead of me. I was very happy with my coffee. Last Sunday, my husband and 5 year old step son were on the way to Lowes Home Improvement trying to decide where to have breakfast and I remembered they had a light food menu. My husband and I got their bacon, egg, cheese, and avocado sandwich and my stepson got the waffle. This is definitely going to be a regular go to place for my coffee drinks. read more

I've been to this place several times with my wife. The decor is cool and the service is pretty good. I usually just get plain coffee regardless of where I go. Unfortunately, I don't care for Ugly Mg coffee. Far too bitter and acidic for my taste. My wife seems to like it, so 4 stars. read more

Normally I love this coffee shop! The atmosphere of the place is friendly and calm. Very relaxing and laid back. The decor is spot on steam punk and I adore it. I have tried a few items on the menu and fell in love with their Dirty Chaister. However, this morning when I went in, a new-to-me barista, Jeremy, made my Chai and it was terrible! I was in a hurry so I didn't taste it until I was already back on 42 to head all the way back to Smithfield. I didn't have time to turn around to get it fixed, so I was left throwing out a large hot water/almond milk mix. It tasted as if there was no chai mix or espresso in it at all. I hate to give a bad review, but I was really really disappointed. The other baristas do such a great job, but this Jeremy guy (who I found out is the owner) should just let the employees he's hired continue to make the coffee while he talks to guests or even sits in his office. read more

I decided to write a review in response to Fred J who wrote a bad review just earlier this morning. I was behind this gentleman in the shop and he was not polite at all. The girl behind the counter was very apologetic and he was not clear on asking the $1 to be honored in fact he was barely heard over the money he kept putting into the tip jar! I do understand it should of been honored but honestly it could of been approached differently. He proceeded to holler from the door that he's not coming back and keep the sandwich. Who are you punishing? You paid all this money including tip to not take your sandwich? This place is fantastic and their customer service and great drink and food selection is why I come back almost every morning. They are a great addition to this community and everyone should support local business. As for Fred? I hope someone gives you a hug today and as for me? I'll be recommending this place to all our patients and the MANY people I work with. read more

Only visited once at mid-day. Other than the clueless soccer mom standing in the only remaining parking place...and not moving until we pulled within a foot of her...kind of a cool place. Had a shot in the dark, coffee was dark and rich, and the drink was put together quickly and at the right temperature. Only one option for creamer, assume it was half-and-half, would have liked some milk but that's a small thing. A little noisy but not unbearable. We'll go back for sure. read more

The 40/42 Cleveland area really needed something like this. What a hidden gem! I've been there a few times already and it has not disappointed.
