Maggot
Bob B.

Ordered food. Was hot. Seemed fresh. Brought it home, opened it up and found out they messed up 1 dish out of my order. I call them, they ask to bring back the dish for an "exchange". At first I thought, exchange? What would they do with the old food? Inconvenience that I have to drive back, but ok. Drive back with the dish and they gave me the corrected dish in exchange. Went back home to eat my wonton mein. Ate my food and towards the bottom I found a maggot. I call back and they asked me to go back for a refund for the wonton mein with the maggot. At this point, I told them no one in my family wanted to eat their food anymore because they're grossed out with potential maggots in their food. She thought about it and said ok bring back all of the food and they'll refund it. I drive back yet again with our entire order (everyone's half eaten food). Instead of refunding the money she calls someone on the phone. After patiently waiting a while she comes back to tell me she won't refund the order because the food is half eaten and that she could only refund 1 dish. (Mind you, I already brought everyone's food back, so no one had anymore food at home) In the end, I drove back twice for their mistakes just to get reneged.

Great food for great price! Grandkids love it :) Food a whole lot for the price and friendly environment even walks with you to your vehicle if you ordered a bunch of stuff very friendly, very quick with your orders and even if they really don't understand or you don't understand their language they still have great customer services. So yes I recommend this place!

On entrance/exit door there is a sign to wear mask when entering. But server behind counter had her mask below her chin. Otherwise food is delicious.

Chicken combo (chicken katsu, bbq chicken, rice, and mac salad)

The "Chinese barbecue" restaurant is something unique to Hawai'i, having been started by post-plantation era Chinese restaurateurs that fused Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, American, and Hawaiian foods, with L&L being one of the most famous chains. No. 1 Chinese BBQ is a smaller family-owned chain on Kaua'i with three locations. The Līhu'e restaurant was the first and occupies a building that was the first Wendy's on the island (which failed) and became the first Jack in the Box (which also failed). Artifacts of both restaurants are still evident in the floor tiles, drop ceiling, and wall panels, which adds to the divey feel here. No one has ever told the owners that quality and quantity are mutually exclusive, because the food is great and the portions are gigantic! Don't expect a Michelin experience, but you can loosen your pants here. They also make different sizes of pans for parties. My favorite is the chicken combo, pictured here. Sometimes I'll substitute the chicken katsu with chicken cutlet. When the brown gravy touches the mayonnaise in the mac salad, oh God *eyes roll back in my head*....it's heaven on earth.

Fresh chicken katsu with chow mein. I already started eating it. The Dragonfruit tasted red-flavored.

I went to No 1 twice on my trip! They had some of the larger tables blocked off for groups, there's a selection of prepared dishes (like Panda Express, but not a national chain), AND you could order some entrees that were cooked to order, so it was one of my top picks with a group of 6 people. I had the chicken katsu and it was made fresh in the back and was delicious! Another member of our group had the fish and it took significantly longer, but he said it was delicious. (Fresh fishy in Hawaii) I had a Kirkland dragonfruit drink and ... it tasted like any other red-flavored liquid. I was sad that their bathroom said No Public Restroom. I don't remember other restaurants not having a bathroom. The second time I went, I didn't get a drink, just in case. You can reach the Tip Top Pokemon Go Pokestop from No 1.

They get giant plate lunches. Their ready made food is good and they give giant portions. Local food that needs more costumers !

ONE tapioca pearl on my "Boba drink"

I got a boba's which costed $6.89 (Which I think is overpriced) and I waited 10 minuets just to get ONE tapioca pearl on my boba, wtf. The boba didn't even taste like green apple. Don't recomend getting stuff from them again because they also have bad customer service. (Very rude) They also don't follow COVID guidlines, (Not wearing any gloves) They handed our straw with no gloves, and no the straw did not have plastic on it.

Chicken Katsu

I got a huge plate of katsu chicken, the wife had an equally large serving of loco moco. They were both very tasty. A bit of a language barrier, but nothing that couldn't be managed. The biggest let down was the broken A/C - it was hot and humid in there and it would have really helped.

Food was good and came out fast and fresh. Tasty, and good amount of food for price paid. This is a go to place for meals.

So in looking through Yelp we saw Richie's. Since it is a food truck we were not sure exactly where it was. After reviewing the most recent reviews we saw it was right down the street where we were staying. It was in the area by Haole Girl Island Sweets. Everyone mentioned getting there early as the close once they sellout. They usually have the Huli Huli Chicken on Friday and Saturday but check to see. Quite a few people were already seated at the picnic table when we arrived around 11:30am. We were greeted right away and ordered the half chicken with macaroni salad and a roll. We stood by the grill area looking at all the good food being prepared. Smelled like heaven. When we got our food we were amazed at how much was there. Large portions. They serve it with a pineapple white sauce that is so tasty. The macaroni salad was good as well. Also some white rice on the side. Best chicken we have had in a while. Thanks to Richie! Check you out next time in town. We saw a red food truck so turned into the parking lot. You could smell the bbq cooking.

Talk about the Aloha Spirit!…read more I'm only in town for the day until our ship leaves this afternoon. Walking through the town of Lihue I found this store and wouldn't you know it! They have exactly what I was hoping to find somewhere, Disc Golf equipment! Then I find that the store is closed today! This is a shared operation with a Barbecue business and the other half being Disc Golf. Well, it turns out that staffing issues had occurred and the only one staff member there was running the barbecue. Bummer. The Mrs ended up knocking on the closed doors and the proprietor came to see what she wanted. She explained I was hoping for some discs for my son who is an avid player, and as luck would have it, he stopped cooking long enough to help me purchase a couple of discs! Oh man that was so cool, plus he knew his stuff and helped me pick out two top quality discs. I got two drivers. One initial driver and a custom design fairway driver that they designed! At 171 for their custom disc, and 167 gr. for the other, these two will be seeing some use when we hit the mainland. While we're doing this, ah, the smell of the food started wafting over, but he was not nearly ready yet to start serving. I appreciate so much how this gentleman went out of his way to help a tourist pick out some gifts, when clearly he needed to be in the other side of the business managing his barbecue. Thanks Uncle D's You Rock!

My wife and I were staying very close by, so we made it a point to visit it during our week long stay in Kauai. The concept and beer selection was great, but the food tasted no different from what one would get from a cafeteria. It's important to check their hours when their food is offered, since it differs from their open hours. Currently food hours are 10:30 - 14:30, W-Sa (opening one hour earlier on Saturday). We came on Friday, and walked around the mall until their kitchen opened. It wasn't too busy yet, so was able to order and pay. While waiting, added two cans of alcohol, at which time the food was ready. Brought everything out to the common outdoor tables that can be used for dining. There is a large choice of local beers in cans, and we chose two: Lanikai Brewing Company's Pualani Sour Ale ($6) and Paradise Ciders (Honolulu HI)'s Lei'd Back Lilikoi ($3.50). Both were good, and would absolutely use this store to buy local beers to take back home in the future. Both of us love brisket, so got the brisket sandwich a la carte for $18.99, and added a side of cole slaw ($3) and Mac Salad ($3). It was a medium sandwich to begin with (used a hoagie type soft bun), but with so much bbq sauce mixed with the chopped brisket, it became more of a bbq sauce sandwich. The sauce itself was good, and the chopped brisked seemed OK, but the ratio was way off. The sides were OK with small portions. For $24.99, should have gotten better...even in a tourist area of Hawaii.
