The door gives way to slightly dim warm lighting, which creates an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. I sat at the bar with my husband and heard the bartender, Phillip taking repeated orders of old fashioned and espresso martini. I saw a table polishing glasses and glasses of wines and then came the surprise - their selections! Their selections were smaller than expected but thoughtfully chosen. We asked Phillip for his recommendations, along the lines of red & bold. He gladly pointed us to a wine that was not on the menu. It seems they offer a menu selection and off-menu/rotating selection from unique wine regions. We had a red blend from China (yes that's correct, it surprised me equally). But then I realized, I haven't had wines from most of the regions they offer and the curiosity sets in. Looking forward to explore the menu and off-menu selection. Ruka Winewood has been on my radar for a while and I recently found out they have happy hours between 6-9pm, so what a better opportunity to give it a try. For a Wednesday night, they had a fair number of customers. I sampled their happy hour red blend pour. It was mid body, somewhat complex but low on tannins which allowed for easy and smooth drinking. The fruit content was moderate. It was the perfect wine for an early night, to sip and hang out with friends. I pretty much enjoyed the two glasses I had. Service was not the best to be honest. During the 1 hour I was there, no one checked on me. No one asked me if I wanted more wine, water or another pizza, etc. I was hopping to have their charcuterie board paired with wine, but they had no charcuterie. I asked for the pizza options and hey only had one out of the 3 options on the menu, only the cheese pizza. The pizza is not the best looking pizza, but it tasted delicious. The cheese was sort of smokey, that was delish. I would have that pizza again. Summarizing, I'm coming back pretty soon for their red wine, at $5/glass, you can't beat that up, specially when it is such high quality. I hope they have the charcuterie next time.

There is foliage everywhere and you feel transported (you'd have no clue this business was on a busy road). We got a couple of bottles of wine from their fridges, along with a smattering of shareable dishes from the kitchen (ordered inside). Everything was delightful and we were loving life (again- even in the humid summer heat!). I'd definitely return and enjoy the interior next time. We had a seat at the bar where the service wasn't great - the bartender/server seemed more interested in spending time chatting away with other employees and regular customers he obviously knew, while we waited long periods for him to give us menus when we'd arrived, and then to take our orders after we'd been ready to place them. Vinya is part store with loads of wines, beers, bar supplies and some foods for sale, and part wine bar/restaurant. If you select a bottle and plan to drink it here, they tack on a bit of an upcharge or corkage fee for that privilege, except on Mondays when the corkage fee is waived. We weren't as thrilled with the Wine by the Glass list here vs. the former Vinya location in the Gables. While prices were reasonable, the list was a bit small by comparison, and more than a few offerings were "rotating selections" which usually indicates you order a particular wine variety, and whichever brands they got a good deal on that week or month from their distributor, is what they'll pour for you. Both selections we had (my husband a cabernet and I a pinot grigio) were decent for the price. The staff, at least for us, used small carafes to measure out the pours so we were given an exact amount, nothing more or less. When we left at around 10:30 on that Friday evening the place was busy, with most all the bar seating and tables outside nearly full. All things considered, I'd return here when in this area.

We went during soft opening and they did a nice job that night. We just went in for wine and desert. We picked a nice Italian wine and we ordered the bacon wraped dates with blue cheese. They were fantastic and they paired excellent with the wine we picked. Tonight we went with two other couples and we had a very nice time. We ordered the sliders, meatballs, calamari, bacon wrap dates with blue cheese and the tuna tartar. Everything was very good again. The location is nice and the space is very nice and the also have a nice selection of beer. The only issue I have is that the space is very loud. Due to the high ceilings flooring and walls with all the wine bottles you will find yourself speaking loudly. They really need to think about noise control. My parents loved their NY strip, they said it was cooked exactly to their liking. My sister and her husband opted for the Miami spice route and they loved their meal. And the menu had so many options I was overwhelmed at first which never happens because most of the menus leave a lot to be desired, especially this year. I mean you basically get TWO entrees for one. The primi was mostly a pasta dish and the secondi, a protein with a side of carbs. You can't beat that deal or show me a better one this year. But before we get into it, the drinks were 10/10 across the board. The volcán and blackberry thyme. Both refreshing but also packing a punch especially the Volcán. These are great choices if you like mezcal and tequila. We sat at the bar and the bartender was most attentive, helpful and welcoming. Now I'm not gonna get into details about each dish but take my word for it, not one miss, all basket of you get me. Antipasti: highly recommended by the bartender and she did right by us...the red shrimp, burrata and mango salad and beef tartare. One was mouth watering and the other, scrumptious but both a must. Primi: opted for the rigatoni with crispy bacon, tomato sauce and pecorino, so so delicious. And also the angel hair pasta with shrimp and pistachios. That one was another incredibly delicious dish and like nothing I've tasted before. Secondi: pan seared halibut with lemon sauce and carrots. This one you can't miss. That halibut was melting in my mouth and lemon sauce was so good I wanted to drown in it. Then the perfectly medium cooked NY strip with roasted potato swimming in that rosemary jus that made me want to lick the plate, OMG. Dolci: Tiramisu was ok but the affogato with vanilla ice cream and warm strawberries had me in a chokehold. Simple on paper but surprisingly delectable in your mouth. I can't say enough good things about this meal. It has to be one of the best meals I've had in my life in this city. This one will definitely bring me back off season. As a tip, highly recommend a reservation because it gets busy in there. Ambiance is also nice and dim lit for those looking for a date spot.
