It was started by the Charlap family with their dairy farm with fresh milk that would be delivered by truck and glass bottles delivery back in the day, and they made their own ice cream which they served at their location in Boston, which has been the same but has expanded in size over the years to match the production needs. My friends used to deliver milk for this dairy in a truck like the good old days! When our baseball teams won in the town, we would go here for ice cream. They have soft serve and hard ice cream and sundaes and shakes and floats. Anything that an old ice cream shop would have- they even have ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cakes for sale these days which looked insanely good. There's probably 40 to 50 different flavors of ice cream. They are all made in house and incredible. There is a second location that opened in the village of Hamburg by the owner son, Nick, and it is a much smaller space. Charlaps is open in the winter with limited hours, it is very slow that time of year. However,, In the summer, there is barely parking. There's seating indoors and outdoors. I have watched this place evolved as I have spent most of my life in this town growing up and now visiting my family, who still lives in our Homestead.
