Polanco Mexican Restaurant & Cantina - Chicken enchilada with red sauce

At the last minute I thought about the 4 stars compared to the top 2 and I ended up here. The decor is bright colors and sinister murals on all the walls which might scare small children. Service was excellent and everything was on my table in a timely manner. My strawberry margarita didn't have a big strawberry flavor but it was a nice pour and not watered down. I was brought chips and salsa as I ordered a blended strawberry margarita. The chips were spot on because they were warm/thin fresh and seasoned nicely. I'm torn on the salsas because you get one hot and one mild. The hot was fresh made chunky with nice heat while the mild was a purée style with good flavor and I think for the first time there was no winner because they were equally very good in their own ways. I ordered the #2 Mexican combination which is 1 chicken enchilada topped in red sauce that looked more brown, 1 taco Al pastor topped with onions, cilantro and a pineapple strip and one steak sope that comes with rice and choice of beans and sour cream. The plate looked delicious. Nothing was super seasoned but it was flavorful. The first thing I noticed was my food was hot but burn your mouth hot. The second thing I noticed while tasting the meats on their own was they were all moist/fresh. The whole plate was delicious. My overall my thoughts is that they are doing everything pretty well with flavors and food temperature and they got their game together, nice job.

I've stopped at Ney's Natural Premium Meats and Sweets a few times over the past couple years,…read moremostly just to buy packs of specialty brats. I recently had a chance to try their breakfast burrito and decided it was time to leave a review. In addition to the breakfast burrito (I went with bacon for the meat) I got a cream cheese danish and a maple frosted pershing donut. Both the cream cheese danish and maple frosted pershing were delightful and among the best examples I've had of both kinds of pastry. The time before this that I stopped I got their pink lemonade cake, which was also very good. Something about the breakfast burrito left me underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, but at $10 I feel like I've gotten better value elsewhere. It's not overly stuffed and the tortilla isn't grilled, which I prefer. I probably wouldn't get it again. Ney's is a little unique compared to other meat markets in that all of their meat is pre-packaged and shrink wrapped rather than needing to be packaged as you're selecting it. They've got end caps full of cheese curds and sausage as well as freezers full of specialty brats (I like the mac and cheese brat), other meats, and homemade pizzas. I even saw a couple dry aging machines with meat being dry aged. There's a cafe off the main room for coffee and tea and the market serves breakfast Friday through Sunday and lunch every day.

I saw on social media that they have an all you can eat fish fry on Fridays, so my kids and I stopped by to give them a try. I got the fish fry with potato pancakes, one kid got the kids chicken strips, and the other got a kids cheeseburger. We also got cheese curds to share. The food was meh all around. The steak fries weren't seasoned or salted and the kids meals didn't come with that much. The burger was dripping grease. The breading on the chicken strips was bland, but at least the strips were large. The cheese curds were cornmeal breaded and had a strong garlic flavor. I was told the curds were battered when I asked what kind they have and was obviously I given incorrect information. At least they weren't greasy like cornmeal breaded curds tend to be. The potato pancakes were paper thin and looked a little overcooked, but didn't taste like it. Even though I got potato pancakes they still put a few fries on my plate, which was odd. The batter on the fish crumbled apart very easily, was a bit greasy, and didn't have a vodka beer flavor like the menu describes. I thought the service was slow and inattentive. I had to bring our glasses up to the bar to get refills on our drinks and it took quite a while for our food to come out even though they weren't super busy. I didn't want to bother with the refill of fish, so they were able to make my meal a two piece dinner for $13 instead of the all you can eat for $17. I don't foresee coming back. There are penty of other places around the area that I like way more. What a shame.

They have a robust old fashioned menu--all made the Wisconsin style. We ordered the barrel aged old fashioned and asked if it could be made in the classic style (and specified without soda). Our server said, 'of course!' Annnnnd--then we got our drinks and they were both Wisconsin style. Not a huge deal and we did enjoy but a word of warning to those who favor a classic old fashioned with no wash--might have a hard time with that here. For our second cocktail, we got Manhattans which were better! For an appetizer, we were waffling between the spinach artichoke dip and the brussels sprouts. Our server recommended the spinach artichoke dip so we went with that. The dip was flavorful and the tortilla chips are house made. It was good! For my main, I got their eggplant parm, which was ample, saucy, and served on a bed of pasta. I definitely couldn't eat it all in one sitting. It was delicious. Our server was attentive and the prices are reasonable. Get to it!

Visually, it has a very warm atmosphere. The Old Fashioned drink menu is extensive, and the ones we tried were out of this world! The service we had was complimented by the matching quality of the food. Definitely a return trip!
