    Cappuccino (left); latte (right)

Whenever I see a coffee shop with a minimalist menu (think no fancy speciality drinks - just the classics) and a steady stream of customers, that tells me it's got to be good. Nine Bar Coffee is one of those coffee shops that's a neighbourhood favourite. Ambiance is bright with a couple of tables inside and outside, and an accessible, clean washroom. The coffee is excellent, of course. The roast they use has a good body to it, but it isn't overpowering. It might be a bit strong as an espresso shot, but in a latte/cappuccino, it's fantastic. Nothing particularly fancy with the latte art - they let the coffee shine on its own.

got my second dose of caffeine of the day at nine bar coffee, across from choices market at davie and richards. they've set up a small outside patio with bistro tables and woven café chairs, tucked under a dark awning and warmed by a roaring heat lamp. framed by tall windows, string lights, and wrought iron railing, it feels a little parisian and a little rain proof, a surprisingly cozy place to linger even on a grey day, and a solid option when indoor seating is full. i ordered a matcha latte with oat milk, which arrived topped with simple latte art and leaned mild rather than bold. nothing flashy, but easy to drink and well balanced. inside, there's a wall of fame for furry friends, filled with polaroids of neighbourhood pets and their names, like a very wholesome celebrity lineup. dogs dominate the wall, as expected, with benzo representin' as the lone feline of the bunch. it's charming and makes me smile, a detail carried over from the coo coo coffee days, and a smart choice to keep what already made the space feel loved and local. the shop opened about five or six weeks ago, taking over the old coo coo coffee space, and it already feels lived in in the best way. the barista was friendly, and while i couldn't snag a seat indoors, the café was clearly doing what neighbourhood cafés should do. no one left while i was there, people were chatting, working on laptops, and settling in. a relaxed, welcoming stop that feels like it's quickly becoming part of the local routine.

I loved the ambience and decor of this place! Apparently, they started as a mobile espresso stand and this is their first (?) cafe location. Big fan! Kind of slow, high-quality, espresso-nerd kind of place. Come for an unsweetened matcha and read a book with a tiny beanie to match the V I B E.

honestly not my favorite coffee. it got me through the morning but i don't think i would want to get it again. also, my sister got a hot chocolate that was super funky tasting. not sure what was going on there. i did really love the dog photo wall it's so cute to look through those. seemed pretty busy so must be a neighborhood fav though

Since downtown Vancouver is a busy city but has a fairly good public transit system, we took the sky train to this popular coffee shop. After I asked a question to the friendly staff, I ordered and received my order number. Thank goodness the suite next door offered tables and seating because it would have been quite a balancing act to enjoy a four espresso tasting without a table. The barista noticed my disappointment when he told me that they only have two espresso varieties for my four taster flight and he offered to add milk to two of them so I can taste the pure shots and mini cappuccinos. This was a thoughtful gesture! One of my daughter's ordered a latte and lemon cream bakery good. I tasted the Monogram Calgary a Colombia/Guatemala blend and Dak Amsterdam from Ethiopia. I tasted a bit of rose and mango in the Monogram like they said but the lemon meringue was absent. I got the fruit and berry hints after having the Dak Amsterdam but little white chocolate. Both blends were very STRONG and I preferred them with a little steamed milk, which softened the intensity without taking away the flavor. A very nice coffee tasting experience for just $10 CAD.

Seating is plentiful on the order and pick up side, though cramped, and a larger space is available on the other side. I had my usual, an iced latte, here, and it was tasty and strong. The banana bread was also pretty good! Wi-Fi was not easy to find (if available) but since I wasn't staying too long, I hadn't asked. Overall, this is more of a cramped than cozy space and is fairly busy. Every inch is most definitely used, so it may feel a bit claustrophobic - otherwise an excellent cafe!

iced matcha latte with oat milk and a chance to win a whisked away to japan? okay, avik, you have…read moremy attention. stopped into avik a little after 3:00 pm on a tuesday, on my way to an appointment, and the place was packed. not exactly surprising given that this west broadway café has become known for its specialty coffee and tea, house made pastries, and all sorts of creative japanese inspired treats. it's a bright, modern space, and there's a lot going on once you start looking around. i went with the iced matcha latte with oat milk, and it was a solid matcha. smooth, nicely balanced, and definitely enough to satisfy the afternoon matcha craving. avik describes its matcha as a high grade tea offering, alongside hojicha, chai and london fog, so tea clearly gets more than an obligatory spot on the menu. then there's the pastry display. so. many. things. the strawberry matcha cookie immediately caught my eye, but then there was a mochi black sesame croissant and i was basically standing there thinking, wait, what?! the menu leans into those japanese flavours in some really fun ways, and there are enough interesting combinations to make a return visit feel very necessary. the strawberry matcha cookie, for example, combines matcha, dried strawberries, white chocolate and cream cheese. the ordering setup is also very much of the future is now variety. there's a huge tablet for self ordering, plus a sliding freezer case for chocolates and ice cream bars. because apparently a regular pastry case wasn't futuristic enough. and then there was the little bonus dangling in front of me: the chance to win a trip to japan through the whisked away to japan promotion, courtesy of paragon. considering how much i've been thinking about japan lately, that felt like a particularly well timed bit of temptation. i sure could use a trip to japan right about now. between the matcha, the creative pastries, the japanese inspired flavours and the very modern ordering setup, avik is a fun stop when the usual coffee and croissant routine needs a little shaking up. even on a packed tuesday afternoon, there was plenty to catch the eye and plenty of reasons to start planning the next visit.

We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

Heck yes. Was it the dreamiest, creamiest dessert I've had in awhile? Yes, yes and yes. The matcha flavor was strong, it was smooth, no complaints here. Will have dreams about this drink. Strawberry: 3/5 stars. I saw it was their most popular and eh honestly I've had better. It wasn't bad, but the matcha wasn't strong enough. It was more on the green milk side for flavor, but the strawberry was nice and not artificial tasting. Vibes: 6/5 stars. Super cute. Little mid-century modern vibe to it. The workers have cool vibes. The customers do too. All around fun and unique. Drinks also came out exceptionally fast even with a line!

Parking can be a bit tricky -- if you're lucky, you might find street parking right out front. With limited space inside, expect a line outside if there are more than a few people ahead of you. We ordered the Earl Grey Matcha, Earl Grey Flat White, and a Pastéis de Nata. The drinks took about five minutes to prepare, and the staff worked efficiently. Their menu seems to rotate seasonally, so you might find limited-time or specialty flavors depending on when you visit. As for the drinks, they were just okay in my opinion. The flat white was quite strong, and while it included Earl Grey syrup, the flavor didn't come through as clearly as expected. The Pastéis de Nata was decent -- not too sweet, but a bit dense. Overall, prices are reasonable for what you get. Worth a visit if you're curious about their seasonal offerings.

Brownie points for convenience. My husband ordered a double espresso and in true men's fashion claimed it to be "solid". I ordered the maple sea salt shaken espresso and it was *chefs kiss*. If you are a sweet and salty lover, get it! It won't disappoint you. We also ordered the Doug sandwich and the Avo sandwich. Don't let the looks fool you as the sandwiches' appearances fall kind of short. However, both sandwiches were delicious. Starbucks could never. ‍ The Doug Sandwich - a full bodied sandwich consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and tarragon aioli. I thought this sandwich would be too heavy, but the brioche bun is light and the scrambled eggs are really fluffy. The Avo Sandwich - a lighter sandwich featuring fried egg, avocado, cheddar cheese, sun dried tomato pesto, tarragon aioli and mixed greens. Also a good choice! The cafe was clean and they have a water dispenser available for customers. Service was ok, but I think they were just a bit busy.
