This is such a lovely popup bar! It has a laid back lounge vibe and the service is great. My favourite dish was the beef tartare.

Vintage Chophouse and Tavern - French onion soup - split in 2. Excellent

Vintage Chophouse and Tavern

I chose Vintage Chophouse based on the solid reviews I saw here on Yelp, and while parts of the…read moremeal lived up to the hype, some aspects left me underwhelmed. We started with the appetizers, the beef carpaccio and Caesar salad, both were excellent and really set a good tone for the evening. The carpaccio was well-seasoned and fresh, and the salad had a nice balance of creamy and crisp. For our main, we went with the Canada Prime bone-in porterhouse, which came with two sides. The jalapeño creamed corn tasted more like jalapeño grits than corn, which threw me off a bit, it wasn't really my thing. The twice-cooked fingerlings with bacon, chives, and sour cream, on the other hand, were delicious, crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the steak itself missed the mark for me. It arrived lukewarm, not hot like you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse, which was disappointing. For a cut that's supposed to be the star of the show, the temperature really detracted from the experience. To finish off, we kept it light with two scoops of gelato, one cherry vanilla and the other a lemon sorbet. Both were refreshing and hit the spot for a light, sweet ending. Service was definitely a strong point, our server was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the night. Overall, it was a mixed experience: great apps, strong service, but the main event which was the steak it just didn't deliver like I'd hoped. I'd give it another try, but probably order something different next time.

Perfect spot for a date night. The service was amazing, so attentive and on point. Modern but has a…read moreclassic steakhouse vibe. I am not a huge fan of steaks, so I got a few sides. The scallops were cooked to perfection. They melted in my mouth and I would easily order this again. The truffle fries and broccolini were both really good. They would make a great side with a steak. The lobster mac and cheese was my least favourite, it wasn't bad more like average, not a lot of lobster pieces.

The problem was that I thought it was only open after 5p when I don't like to eat heavy things like burgers. Today I noticed that they are open from noon Fri-Sat-Sun, so I checked it out today (Sunday, 5 January). First thing is that unlike at nearby Class Clown, you can get your food to go (yeah I don't get it either, how CC doesn't let you order to go), and I got the standard cheese burger (OG Smashie) and a side of regular fries, which came to $18.50. Food was ready in maybe 10 minutes and I walked it home. It was AMAZING. Fries are beautiful even though they didn't hold up well in the 15 or so minutes it took me to get home in -15, but still, delicious skinnier fries clearly made from proper potatoes and just very impressive. The burger was beautiful!!! Gorgeous smashed patties, beautifully dressed, more than I can ask for in a burger and now it's tied with iyycburg for my favourite in Calgary. It's... unctuous. It's good they're open for lunch only three days a week because I could eat this every day and that might not be the best thing for me. But it is tremendous.

Latte Art Love - Doctor Who latte art

When's the last time you had a latte at a "stop what you're doing, take pictures and tell your…read morenerdiest friends from around the globe" level? Never?! You mean you've never had a barista satisfy your inner nerd as well as your coffee addiction by making you a freaking Doctor Who Dalek Latte with "Caffeinate" written across the top?! Get down to Latte Art Love right away, you geeky coffee loving Whovian, and cure your caffeine collywobbles! For the same price as a Starbucks drink, I got a super tasty Fratello caramel latte with the best latte art I've ever seen. It's an extra dollar for the latte art, but we're not talking a leaf or a heart here - its a one off peice of art that will only be around until you drink it. Make sure you take a photo. Definitely the thing that sets this place above any of the other coffee shops around. They're a pop up Cafe that spends most of their time in the Endeavour Art Gallery, soon to be the ARCHE maker space. So far, there isn't much of a coffee shop feel to it. Latte Love Art is still very "pop-up" at this location and could be taken down at a moment's notice. There are a few little Ikea coffee tables set up around the room, but so far, you still kind of feel like maybe you're not supposed to be there. ARCHE is currently transitioning into a art/maker space, so with a bit of partitioning work and maybe the keen eye of an interior designer, this will be one fantastic art gallery coffee shop. Order a one off latte and by the time you're done swooning over it, you can enjoy it while wandering around the room and getting a behind the scenes look at the artist's projects.

This is for their new coffee counter at Marda Loop Mercantile…read more I was happy to see Elle since I hadn't seen her since she was offering a small espresso bar at ATB financial on 17th Ave SW, and she was always a very good purveyor of customer service and good coffees to boot. So this was really a nice place to stumble upon, and the entire market there is quite precious- it's small but has nice products. I got an espresso. It's made with beans sourced from Calgary's new and very food Chronicle roasters. I got the lightest option (a Mexican) and Elle made it with deft care on a little one-group Simonelli, the sort of machine that is perfect for a small restaurant or caterer (which latte art love is, primarily). The espresso was rich, smooth and delicious, and what shocked me is that this gorgeous little swallow, in a proper porcelain demitasse, was $1.25. Yes, not even a toonie. This is a price from 1995. It's outrageously inexpensive, when any of the quality shops in the neighbourhood (Phil & Seb, Monogram, Distilled, NHBR) would charge more than double that and this was every bit as good.
