While visiting Calgary, my wife made us reservations at Model Milk based upon the great Yelp reviews. Model Milk ended up being a highlight from our trip! The restaurant has a cool atmosphere along with friendly stay and delicious food...a trifecta! Make sure you don't leave without ordering the apple pie...wowza!!!

Fantastic food! Great service! Casual place to eat great food. Started with the potato bread, smoked tomato salad. Bread was light fluffy full of flavor. The smoked tomato salad was delicious and was the perfect starter to dinner. I had the pork collar with rutabaga m wife had the flat iron steak. Both were cooked to perfection. Katy recommended the apple pie and sherbet for dessert. Must have the apple pie! I recommend eating here perfect place for a date or dinner with friends.

This was our favorite place we ate at in Calgary and we weren't expecting that! We had a reservation and were sat right away. I would highly recommend making one cause it was really busy by the time we left. They have an upstairs and a downstairs for dining which is nice to maximize the space. We ordered the: -Calamari fricassee: Guanciale, Edamame, Garlic Croutons, Lemon Preserve. This calamari was out of this world! It wasn't fried which was really nice and was soaked in buttermilk so it was nice and tender. The sauce was flavorful and we used some of the potato buns to soak up the remaining sauce. -Grilled AB pork: Charred Cabbage, Turnip Ecrasse, Apple, 'Nduja. The cut for the day was pork collar, which was extremely juicy and tender! The 'Nduja I could have drank cups of. It was THAT good. Highly highly recommend l. Don't skip this!! -house made potato Buns: Honey Glaze, Whipped Butter. We saved half for the butter and half for the calamari. Super soft, who doesn't love bread and butter!? -Apple pie: this was one of the best apple pies I've ever had. It was STUFFED with apples. And served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Don't pass on this dessert. -Chocolate layer cake: this was my least favorite out of everything we ordered. It was SO dry and I didn't enjoy it at all. I tried eating it was coffee too and it wasn't good and didn't help with the dryness. I would skip the chocolate layer cake!!! For drinks we ordered the high plains, sour lady, and gin diesel based on our alcohol preferences. We enjoyed them all. If you're in Calgary, do yourself a favor and stop by for a fantastic meal!

EXCELLENT restaurant. I easily got a reservation from Open Table from the link on their website. The ambience is chic rustic inside with music at the right decibel to have a nice mood inside without being too loud. My server was very attentive and helpful. I was by myself and the restaurant gave me a nice and savory toasted brioche bread with small shrimp inside. It was good. I really liked my cod dinner which was nice and flaky. Cooked just right. Most important, the decadent cheddar crusted apple pie was excellent!!! Came out warm with a nice scoop of ice cream on top. Would like to come back and try other entrees in the future.

Outstanding service and very welcoming staff. The vibe of this restaurant was so cozy even though it's a large space. The food is good and will leave you full. We didn't enjoy the fry bread and regretted not getting the buns.I found the entrees leaned on the salty side but were still tasty.

Another 5 star dinner here! Had the vegetables (which I didn't realize were chilled / on ice), kale Caesar salad (very good), and the gnocchi (pretty tasty with the mushrooms and peas). A great place for a shared dinner as you can get multiple smaller dishes and split them up so you can taste more deliciousness.

@modelmilk date night. . What a lovely and tasty experience it was tonight. Everything was delishhhh and here's what we had: . 1) CALAMARI FRICASSEE Guanciale, Edamame, Garlic Croutons, Lemon Preserve -19$ - such a unique flavor and texture. We're told this has been on the menu for 10 years and it's stood the test of time. Would recommend. . 2) MODEL MILK HOT FRIED CHICKEN Buttermilk Biscuits, Dill Pickle, Wedge Salad-34$ - amazing chicken, omg. Pricy for chicken really but so worth it! Juicy and tender and the biscuits and salad were bomb too. . 3) THE BURGER-Morel Mushroom Ragout, Cheese Curds, Creme Fraiche -30$ - did not like this. It's good meat, but the fries were meh and flavors were good, but I would've rather sat this one out or gotten more chicken! Still good quality, though so may just be a preference thing! . 4) MODEL MILK APPLE PIE-Cheddar Crust, House-Made Vanilla Ice Cream -13$ - omg so amazing and different. I never would've thought of baking apple pie with cheddar cheese crust, but now it's a must. The slice was huge too, so definitely get this and share it or eat less main for this one! . The brisket looked bombbb and I'd get that next time. I also thought the ice cream sandwich with horchata icecream looked and sounded amazing. Next time! . Overall we will be back for the chicken and apple pie. The vibe is nice, low lighting doesn't help with foodie pics on a cam, but 10/10 would come back :) service was also very attentive and friendly ;) . Thanks @modelmilk

I never ate dinner at Model Milk on this trip to Calgary, but I was there several times for cocktails and the best cheddar cheese crust apple pie. It may be the best dessert in Calgary. Yet, even without the fantastic dessert, you would find me at Model Milk often when I'm in Calgary. The folks running Model Milk may be the nicest people in Alberta. I felt so damn welcomed by Matt, mixing me cocktails that matched my particular tastes, and Colin who made both my wife and I feel like visiting celebrities. My first evening at Model Milk I was "on top of the world," feeling no pain after a great night of food, alcohol, and vibrant social interaction. This euphoria is as rare as a "double shot" in my new home of Salt Lake City, due to its repressive theocratic nature. It can be a lonely place for an effusive, theatrical older dude who loves the irreverent. Matt and Colin, and the joyful ambiance of Model Milk, brought out laughter with a healthy dose of a ribald love of life. I cannot wait to enjoy the entire menu at Model Milk, surrounded by happy people, taking a huge bite out of life. That's what Model Milk's all about.

Our server was spectacular. He was so good-natured. There was a dish we expressed interest in but he steered us away from. He then offered to bring it to us for free and then we asked if he was hitting on all four of us at the table! The dish wound up not being to our taste but there was plenty of other delicious food on offer. The waffle was great and the dish with the tiny rolls and long beans as well.

I really like the atmosphere and food here. A good friend came from Vancouver to visit me and so I decided to bring her here. Because she was here for work, we could only go for drinks or desserts. So I decided to take her for desserts. Any food that went past us smelled so good. I got their apple pie and the Chocolate Cremeux. We shared and I have to say it was very good. Well I like the apple pie crust cheesy flavor. Also portion quite big. The chocolate cremeux was delicious. A bit too sweet but it was definitely lighter than the apple pie. The decor here is nice. It is a sister restaurant of Pigeonhole (very famous in Calgary). A reservation is definitely needed. There is an upstairs for cocktail drinks but they are open certain days and time. Have to come back and try their dinner menu.

We went there for the Sunday supper, it was quite a steal for the price paid! For just $40 you got so much that you can't finish, there were other tables asking to box their food to go! And their food is not bad, I like the idea of letting a restaurant to test out different combinations of food and see if their customers will enjoy it. This experimental kinda attitude is very much appreciated, I wish more restaurants are willing to change their menu more frequently like they're. My favourite out of the night is the pita, but there's only one per person, I wish I could have more. It was a pack of flavours that can be easily finished on its own but also good when paired with the hummus or lamb tartare. Overall a very enjoyable meal, I wish they will consider opening a branch in Toronto :)

Finally gave Model Milk another try after my last experience a few years ago was subpar. I should have given it another shot much sooner....it was amazing. A date and I split four dishes: Fricassee of Calamari, Thai Jungle Curry, House Made Pierogies, and Wagyu Beef Tartare. There wasn't a bad dish in the bunch but the Tartare was probably my favorite. I would have all the dishes again except for the Pierogies. Not that they weren't delicious but I prefer lots of bold flavours and this was easily the most simplistic dish of the bunch which I'm sure some would prefer. All in all it was a great experience and Model Milk will be on the list of frequent restaurants I visit and recommend to others. Kind of choked it took me so long to give it another shot but oh well. Definitely a Calgary restaurant that everyone should try.

I'm always scared it's going to be overcooked, because at many restaurants the fish usually is, but this was perfectly grilled and well seasoned. The bed of veggies underneath had a really nice, subtle flavor that complemented the fish without overpowering it. I also ordered their banana cocktail, which honestly surprised me. I didn't think I would ever like banana in a cocktail, but it was absolute heaven. Smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. One of those drinks you think about ordering again halfway through. For food, I also had the braised short ribs, and they were excellent. Super tender, rich, and full of flavor. Definitely one of those comforting dishes that still feels elevated and well executed. The decor deserves its own mention. The space is warm, stylish, and thoughtfully designed, and there's an actual live tree inside the restaurant, which is such a cool touch. You can already tell this place must be incredible in the summer when everything is open and lively. Overall, Porch delivers on food, drinks, and atmosphere. Easily a spot I'd come back to, whether for dinner, drinks, or a special night out.

We saw they were going to open at 11am, and decided to try our luck by getting there right at opening since we didn't have a reservation. We got lucky and got seated right away! - PARKING - Street parking, make sure you take note of how long you paid for! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The ambiance inside is so nice and airy, with greenery and natural light shining through. There's also a super cute swing area next to the bar area that you can sit. I really liked the overall interior design! The staff was very attentive for our large party throughout our meal. There are bathrooms downstairs as well. - FOOD - Bacon Jam Benedict ($20.00): Loved the flavor combination in this! The sweet savory maple bacon jam worked so well! We upgraded to the fried potatoes ($4.00) and they were pretty tasty. Carrot Cake French Toast ($24.00): We got one to share with the table, and I'm glad we didn't commit because it was just OK to me. I wish there was more mascarpone filling, and also a different sauce than chocolate because it didn't pair well for me. Winter Nights ($19.00): We wanted to get some greens in and chose this salad. I enjoyed the mix of greens and also the fennel salami which gave a salty bite! Truffle Parm Fries ($13.00): We also got this to share with the table and you can't go wrong with these! - OVERALL - Great brunch option if you have a small or large group! Really nice airy ambiance for a nice start to your day.
