Absolutely phenomenal food. It's a smaller restaurant in a strip mall but it is BUSY and there's a reason why. The chili momo stole the show. They were flavorful and spiced just right with a hint of sriracha. The spring rolls were delicious. I would pass on the Caesar. It isn't super flavourful but it's okay. Get the curry instead. We hear MD about this place and had to see what the fuss was about We ordered the Himalayan butter chicken which was the perfect amount of spice and sauce. Had a layover in Calgary and had a Airbnb in the area and decided to stop here for a quick bite after landing , since it's walking distance ! I didn't realize how many desis there are in Canada , pretty much every store in the 6 block radius I was staying at was all desi runned . On to the restaurant itself , the service was kind of slow . We had ordered the Momo sampler + their noodle soup dish w/ shrimp and it took about 15 + minutes to come out , and there were only 3 maybe 4 other tables but I don't wanna judge since there might be only one person working behind there . This was my first time having Nepalese food and it made me wanting it when I came back to the states ! The noodle dish it self had good bright flavors , and reminded me on thai tom yum . While the momo trio sampler WAS TO DIE FOR . It was raining while we were there , and the momos was like laying in warm cozy bed eating soup watching a movie ! I loved the perfect crispyness of the outside + their sauces . They DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE HEAT . It was spicy but the perfect amount of spice . I'm so glad we decided to eat here before heading to the national park area. Everything was delicious and it was exactly what we needed after our long 6 hour flight. The decor was beautiful, and the service was good too! The chowmein had the perfect balance of tanginess and aalu sadeko's portion was huge! So, the only issue we had was that the sauce for the Jhol momo tasted and smelled old. The momo's however was delicious so we just ate it without the sauce. This is a wonderful mom and pop business. The owner is from Kathmandu and very lovely about sharing the Nepalese cuisine. It's a relaxing place with calming music and visual aesthetics. The chili momo is fried and the johl momo is steamed in a tomato and sesame seed based sauce. I liked the steam momo better, but the chili momo sauce was so yum. Service was super slow, just be aware of this walking in. The food was delicious, however, which made up for the almost hour long wait to receive our first dish. Any momo dish will be delicious, we also got a dish containing lamb which was fantastic, nice and tender, not too gamey. read more

It was such a delightful experience! It was a regular, small-sized restaurant with probably 10-12 tables, with fresh and modern decor. We ordered Jhol-momo and chicken chowmein from the menu and freshly brewed Chai off the menu (yes, you have to ask for chai separately and be willing to wait 20 minutes for the fresh brew). We also requested a higher-than-max-spice level and were pleasantly surprised with a side of black, chilly oil. Our server shared that it's an in-house sauce, which sure tasted like something I had never tasted before. Amazing food and very warm hospitality! We tried this restaurant on the first evening of our Banff trip, and undoubtedly, it has now set a very high standard for other restaurants to follow! Absolutely the best Momos I ever had! I had quite a few living in Toronto. There are several restaurants that make momos and when I heard there was a Momo restaurant in Calgary I knew I had to try it. They have 3 different options: chicken, goat and veggie. They had about 5 different kinds of Momo too. I had the Tandoori and the Jhol Momo. Both were excellent! Each order comes in 10 but I did ask to do 2 half orders so I could try more than 1 kind. We also ordered the Mainz dinner which was 3 different curries with rice. Very good. I really wish they were more central. We live very far from this restaurant. If they were more central we would come alot more often. However, this is a restaurant that is worth the trek all the way past the airport! read more

I'm not normally a huge fan of momos, but the momos at Calgary Momo House won me over!! I loved that they had at least 5-6 different varieties of momos to choose from (e.g., tandoori, steamed, chili, fried, etc.) & you could choose your filling for any of these varieties. I tried the tandoori veggie momo and the fried veggie momo, and both were absolutely delicious! My only regret is I wish I had gotten the tandoori momo with paneer so I could try two different fillings. The presentation of the dishes also stood out here. Most momo places are pretty casual and you go for the food, not the plating. But at CMH, our dishes were presented so beautifully! Only word of caution: The serving sizes here are huge. I personally think 1 plate of momos could be enough for two people. If I recall, it was ~8 momos on the plate and they're quite large. read more

One of the most enjoyable meals I ever had. Got lucky, it was not crowded from what I read, the food and service were both excellent. We split the spicy Momo as an appetizer, steamed and the veggie role. What a brilliant start. Then we split one of their specialties with goat meat and did not disappoint but enhanced the meal. Calgary Momo House is tucked away in a plaza that is heavily catered toward the Indian community. In my short trip to Calgary, my friend and I ended up going twice despite the drive out because these momos are unforgettable and the service is great to boot. Our favourites were the Steamed Momo - Lamb ($13.90), followed by the Steamed Momo - Chicken ($12.50). You really get the true flavour of the rather generous filling without any sauce to mask it or a fried exterior to change its mouthfeel. We still enjoyed the other styles (Jjol (house soup), Chili (wok fried), Fried, and Tandoori (masala spices)), but simple sometimes is best. On our first visit, we were accidentally served what I believe was the Chicken Thukpa (Nepali noodle soup) ($11.90), which ended up being on the house. It was kind of reminiscent of a Tom Yum Gong. We also tried the Goat Choila (grilled goat with flaked rice) ($14.50) on our second visit. It had an interesting texture with the flaked rice, but the goat was a tad dry for our liking. We had just landed in Calgary, and saw that this place was nearby. We tried every kind of momo, and also the charcoal-grilled goat. (We don't get goat very often, and we love it.) The goat was delicious, not dry at all. When mixed together, the flaked rice & sauced soybeans were also yummy. We loved all the momos! If I had to recommend, I would say get the steamed ones and eat them plain...the filling is so moist & savory that you don't need dipping sauce. That said, we took some fried veggie momos to go, and they were just as good cold, the next morning. We had rice pudding (kheer), which is served warm; and mango cake for dessert. Both quite nice! We had the Chicken Jhol Momo- outstanding, steamed and served in a really delicious sauce. Visually stunning, nice thin wrapper, a delicious bit. We were lucky to catch a day when the owner was working the floor- he greeted our table and took the time to get to know us and vice versa. I enjoyed sharing the story of my time in Kathmandu with him, who also shared that he is from the region. Our two types of momos (see pics) and butter chicken were excellent, both in flavor, presentation, and quality, just eat them quick because they can cool off fast! Never have I ever walked out of a restaurant due to terrible service. We were excited to try the food but never got to. We were seated, not given utensils or menus. Not given water. The hostess would rather be answering the phone. Two tables around us were not cleaned up for ten minutes. There was one table waiting for food and one finishing up. There is no excuse. It was abysmal service. Another table, clearly annoyed, went up to the hostess and hunted her down to pay. They clearly do not have their act together. How does this place have 5 star reviews?!
