The food was pretty good! It is not given out family style but rather in smaller portions of single servings. However it still is enough to share. The naan was amazing! Tasted great and the texture was so good. Would've eaten more but was already full. The grilled lamb was also cooked perfectly and dipped with the hot sauce tasted great. The curries were also pretty delicious as the mango one had actual mango chunks in it. Was pretty surprised they had pork momos as well. Service was good, our waiter was nice. My friend and I were visiting from out of town - we live in a pretty big city so at first from the outside The Himalayan didn't seem like too much to be wow'ed by but rather another small shop in a small court. But stepping inside, the restaurant looks very nice and the staff was quite polite. We ordered the creamy chicken curry and basa fish grill to split and it was a good amount of food for us. The basa fish was really tender, and the vegetables at the bottom was able to soak up a lot of flavor. Hands down the best meal I've had in Calgary. Was excited to introduce momos to a newcomer to Nepali cuisine, and was blown away by the food myself. Amazing spices, delicious options and great service. We had the pork momos, spicy grilled fish and the lamb platter with a beer. The pork momos was an immediate hit. Heavy on the cilantro and bursting with flavor. The spicy grilled fish was too spicy for me to eat, but the mouthful I could handle was delicious dispite the heat. I wish I ate spicer food so I could have more! The lamb platter was the perfect meal. Each little bowl held a different texture and flavor which could be matched or contrasted in every bite. Nepalese food at its finest... I mean this quite seriously. My family and I have been frequenting The Himilayan for years--it's definitely on our restaurant rotation. A bit of a special occasion place for us. Nepalese food is the perfect mix of Chinese and Indian--packed full of flavour. After eating at the Himilayan for years the bar for Nepalese food was high. I'm thinking back to 2018 when my sister and I decided to go on a trekking trip in Nepal. We had all these expectations about the food and were sadly let down for almost the entire trip. Nothing lived up to what we'd had back in Calgary. Curious. Luckily we've got this gem of a restaurant! The Himilayan has it all: great atmosphere, wonderful and attentive staff, and food that is worth talking about. It's family friendly and is great for accommodating everyone! Above is a photo of some of the delicious dinners from my last visit! Here's a quick summary. RATING: 10/10 - The Himilayan We've had the Chau Chau, Takari with Lamb, Chili Stir Fry, Butter Chicken, Himilayan Eggplant and not pictured but an absolute must is the Momos (any type will do!). The above order is pretty consistent for me and my fam. Everything is as incredible as the last. A particular favourite of mine are the Momos, they're simple but so comforting. When Tess and I were in Nepal we had them every which way: steamed, fried, all the momos at all the meals. Another top pick is the Chili Stir-Fry, it's sweet, spicy and oh so yummy! The serving style at the Himilayan is different and efficient. All the dishes, with the exception of Chau Chau, are served in bowls on a long plate with rice, potato salad and naan so everyone gets their individual portions of each. Incredible food. The best Nepalese I've had in my life. My fiancee had the Himalayan lamb which came on a grill with long yellow rice, a cold potato dish, and lentil soup. The meat was juicy and flavorful. I had the butter chicken which was tender and savory. The sauce was also an incredible complement to the naan. The food was overall delicious. The pork momo was so juicy, I could not get enough. The Basa fish was soft and wonderfully spiced. The lamb curry that was part of the dal bhat was slightly dry for my taste. But I did enjoy the sides that came with the dal bhat. The servers were attentive and friendly. It somehow matches an upscale ambience without being pretentious. I received quick, kind service. Heres what I ate and drank: -The wolf, a hazy pale ale - pineapple, passion fruit, and citrus flavours, just the right balance of hoppy and tropical -Pork Momos - the hotter sauce saved the flavour. The waitress Christine knew, she saw me being bored and knew that I'd need a hotter hot sauce. And that really amplified the flavour and brought out all the flavours. The textures were perfect - spongey soft dumpling skin with incredibly tender pork filling supported by cilantro, spices, garlic, onion. -chatpat lamb curry with saffron rice and garlic naan (green pepper, tomato, onion) - naan was a mix of crisp on the outside and butter soft silk on the inside. The curry was hot, fragrant, aromatic, with very simple ingredients used in a tomato base so well. The lamb was soft, tender and the lamb flavour hits you at the end of that profile that it doesn't overpower you with the meat sweats. The saffron rice adds sweetness and the pickled carrot adds the extra dash of freshness. I was first worried the rice was underseasoned and unnecessary. But then I quickly realized that's not what it's for. Saffron rice adds such a depth of sweetness and intensifies your experience. 9/10 - the only recommendation? Get a hotter sauce, the whole experience is better for it. read more

You may ask yourself what occasion calls for the Himalayan. I highly recommend birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, dates, catching up with friends, or just being hungry. This is a popular place so it would be preferred to make a reservation. The food is tops in both quality and flavour and the portions are just right. My friend and I had had several items off the menu over a couple of visits and the real problem we have is that I want to stick with alot of the existing items on the menu rather then try something new. Definitely don't skip the appetizers as the Mo Mo's and fish tareko are on the top of the list of favourite dishes here. We generally argue about which one to get, and then get both. It was my first time having Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine and it was fantastic! Started with an order of the pork mo-mo. It was steamed dumplings spiced with cumin and other flavors. I would definitely order this again! Tried the traditional Nepalese dinner set (Dal-Bhat) with chicken and all the various dishes were fantastic. Spinach was well cooked, chicken was tender and the potato salad was delicious. Also ordered the eggplant which was a twist on sweet and sour flavors. Also delicious but not as unique as the Dal-Bhat. It was so good that a repeat visit was required for the lunch buffet. Service was great and the food variety was a great sampler for their menu. My favorite items during lunch included the noodles, stir fried veggies in a slightly tangy sauce and the beef. Spice profile is similar to Indian cuisine but the chef here seems to have a great understanding in melding the various flavors and spices so they complement each other. I waited a long time to go here because their hours are pretty limited and they are usually all booked up on the weekend! Spoiler: It was amazing!! The food, the servers, the decor! Yay! We ordered the pork momos for starters and then I got the Himalayan lamb and my friend got the dal bhat plate with the chicken! The pork momos were basically dumplings but with filling that was infused with spices (tasted like a kebab!). There was a tomato based dipping sauce that went really well with the momos! I would totally get this again - it was $8 for 6 of them so it's great to share! They have the momos with chicken or vegetable filling as well. The Himalayan lamb was a really savoury curry with succulent lamb pieces and it came with rice and naan and potatoes as a side dish. The curry was so yummy - I was so happy with it! It went really well with both the rice and the naan! It was a good amount of food for one person ($18) My friend had the dal- bhat which was a traditional Nepali plate which included three curries, rice, naan and salad! One of the curries is a choice between chicken, chicken or cottage cheese. The other two curries are spinach and dal. This plate also includes a small dessert of mango pudding and chai ($23). Great for one person as well and a good start to Nepali food if someone is unfamiliar with what to order as it includes a variety of things! I got a mango pudding for dessert as well and it was so yummy! It was really sweet and it had small pieces of rice in it! I got a larger version of this which was unexpected as I was hoping for the same size as the dal bhat version haha Oh well - it was really delicious so I can't complain :) Overall, I would highly recommend this place! The food was delicious. The momo (dumpĺings) are extremely flavourful. I always find dumplings very bland in flavour but this ones restored my faith, they will blow your mind. We order the himalayan lamb, the chicken himalayan gril and shrimp chatpat; all were exquisite. The lamb was sort of sweet, the chicken very juicy and the shrimp had lots of flavor ( and there were lots of huge shrimps on the plate, not like in most restaurants where they put like 3 and the rest is vegetables to fill the plate). The safron rice was the perfect. And finally the mango rice puding was another mindblowing experience, there's no much rice in it and it doesnt exactly taste like mango either, you MUST order it though, no excuses.
