What a beautiful experience from Start to finish. We had the scallops to start, incredible in a mushroom sauce, seriously delicious. My wife had the lamb and I had the Rib steak, both were amazing, not sure which I liked better. We finished with a cheese cake, I'm not a dessert person for the most part and usually don't order but am I glad that I did!! We made reservations in October 2022 and after 7 months, we had our dinner last night. We were greeted upon arrival and sat in the lounge with fresh flowers and looked at the artwork and nostalgic pieces such as an old cash register, wood stove, stuffed birds etc. We were seated and water and drinks were offered along with soft, fresh butter and bread. I think we had 3 plates haha! The poppyseed was our fave. Entrees are served with soup or salad, veggies abs roasts taters. We all had something g different to try it all. Son had Caesar salad, I had green salad and hubby had potato corn chowder and we stared a shrimp cocktail. Shrimps wee lightly marinated and delightful. For entrees, son had a filet mignon with bearnaise, hubby had the bacon wrapped tenderloin and I had the infamous 12oz ribeye topped with shrimp and home made hollandaise. Casual fine dining in a beautiful setting as we watched the sunset. I have eaten a lot of beef but this was one of the BEST experiences ever!!! Vegas, San Fran, Toronto and NYC haven't stole my heart or my tastebuds for steak. The meat quality and preparation is taken with great care. I'm talking Michelin star quality!!! We asked for rare to medium rare and that is what we were served. We shared a creme brûlée but they had other desserts that would have also floated my overstuffed taste buds! My dad has been talking about this place for months saying how fantastic it is and how the Yelp reviews are fantastic. Coming from Houston where you have lot of fantastic steak houses to choose from I was skeptical. Boy was I wrong. The service is amazing! Family run and owned, and it shows. The love and spirit shines right through. First: the house salad, the dressing makes it. Second: bacon wrapped filet and halibut were both amazing. Fish was cooked perfectly and paired with a sauce that wasn't over powering to the perfectly cooked fish. The bacon on the filet wasn't thick or over power the filet. Everyone's steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare. Sauce made the steak but could stand on its own. Even the potatoes served on the side were soft on the inside and grilled perfectly on the outside. Third: bread pudding! I didn't think anyone could top my favorite bread pudding in New Orleans and they did! Can't wait to go back! These folks know how to cook meat. In my group we had a New York, a Filet, a Rib Steak and a couple Veal Rib steaks. All were perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. Each entree had its own unique sauce and accompaniments. Locally sourced, dry aged, intensely beefy steaks. This aint a Keg or an Earls steak. This is Old School. Portions are very large and come with soup or salad. Appys would have been too much. It's an oddball room with dishes and glassware from grandma's house. I big whiteboard goes from table to table displaying today's specials. Simple wine list. Not fancy, they clearly focus their energy on the food. Homey-Friendly service. A killer view of the high plain and Cowboy Trail if you are in the front room. It was a bit of a long wait between the soup and the steak but it was worth it. Bit of a wait for the cheque too, but not a deal-breaker. It was packed when we got there at 5:30, and lined up when we left at 8:00. This place is on the map. I had very high expectations from all the 5star Yelp reviews and I was definitely not disappointed. It took 1 month for us to get a table for 6. It's quite a drive from Calgary but the views during the fall was beautiful. The Yelp map brings you to a shack next to a gas station which is not the restaurant. The actual restaurant is up in the hill. A very unique place to have dinner. 5/5 for the views and atmosphere. Family owned the service was top notch. The severs were friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing and definitely lives up to one of the best steak restaurants. Our appetizers were a bit small size really not meant for sharing. The main were huge. I came with my family of 6 and we all ordered a different cut of steak and they were all delicious. But the best were the peppercorn steak and the chateaubriand bouquetiere for two. Well, they did it again! This place never ceases to amaze me. They continue to keep surpassing the already high expectations I have before I visit. I had two friends with me that had never eaten here before and I said with 100% confidence "this will be the best meal you've ever had". They both agreed I was correct. The service is always lovely too. The staff is always the same (family oriented) - and you can tell they take total pride in their business. They are always attentive. Always lighthearted and interacting with the patrons. Always positive and it's obvious they're happy to be there. This was my first time being in the new building and I was so impressed with the building. It is still small, but that's what they do - they don't cram people in there and make frozen meals to make sure that everyone is getting fed quickly so that they can rush you outta there for more people to make the biggest buck. They serve food provided by local people and the taste proves how important that is. They also have a beautiful waiting area for those who have later reservations. They serve wine (or whatever drink you may have) to those who are waiting, as well. The view from the new place is also incredible. I'm lucky to be from the area and get to see this view all the time, but for those who are visiting will be taken aback by the panoramic mountain view (who am I kidding? I still am). Warning: if you do want a table, book well in advance. I called at the beginning of May and the only table left was this specific Thursday evening at 5:30. Nothing else was available until mid July. My family and I ordered the Rib Eye with Jumbo shrimp & Hollandaise, Chateaubriand Bouquetiere for Two and Dark Chocolate Hazelnut caramel cake. Unfortunately, the rib eye was overcooked. We asked for medium rare, but it was in between medium and medium well done. However, the rib eye was still very tender and well seasoned. We talked to them and i guess they didn't really get what we meant; so they offered us another piece of steak for free which was not rib eye though. But we really appreciated it. Overall, we think we loved the Rib Eye more than the Chateaubriand (Centre cut of beef fillet), but they're both very tender! And the cake was so good! Sitting on a deck overlooking the mountains on one of the nicest days of the spring, enjoying what was possibly the best steak I've ever eaten, will be a memory that will be with me for along time. Our group of six all agreed, between the steak, prime rib special and even the chicken Caesar, spectacular means all around. I have to say that, although the service was excellent, our specific waiter had a slightly odd bed side manner, and it wasn't initially obvious that they were thrilled to see six spandex clad bikers show up for dinner without a reservation. None the less, the food was too good to let those items detract from a five star rating. An hour and a bit from southern Calgary, this place offers a really nice evening out or day trip. They were quick to clear out empty plates and didn't rush is through our meals. Spacing between each course we ordered were spaced nicely. Our group started with a couple people getting appetizers ( scallops & escargot ). Both felt the seafood was so fresh for being in land locked Alberta. When ordering our main courses we all had the choice of creme of mushroom soup or house salad. A few of us had house salads while two the soup. The portions were great and very tasty without being overwhelming. The main course continues to please. The peppered steak was delicious and a nice size (10 oz). The sauce and veggies accompanying the steak were just as tasty. Right to the dessert, this place never failed to disappoint. My crème brûlée was a great finish to an excellent meal. I was expecting to write a "omg, everyone was right about the steak here" review but sadly it will not be the case... When you read reviews like, this is the best steak you'll ever eat, or worth the drive, etc etc, even when hyped up by your own family members, you have very high expectations set for the restaurant and expect to be knocked off your feet. Impeccable service - simply perfect. Now, the food. We started with an assortment of appetizers to share. I didn't know what chicken pastillia, seafood panache or chausson d'escargot were and was glad to try them - tasty but portions were on the small side for the price. But that's ok because my focus is on possibly the best steak I may ever eat, right? I ordered the rib-eye special which was topped with three jumbo shrimp and hollandaise sauce. I was so excited when they set the plate before me as the smell was intoxicating. Was a little surprised to see the shrimp was steamed and not seared but again, let's focus on the steak. Here's where it lost me... it's a very normal piece of steak. I'm not saying it wasn't a good piece of meat, but I've had other steak where I went "wow" and this one here... did not have that effect on me whatsoever. Also, my husband and I had issues with the doneness - some parts of the steak was cooked more than others but it was still nicely tender. I think we just set our expectations way too high... One thing I am not entirely happy about was what they charged for my kid's pasta. A handful of fettucine in garlic cream sauce with two pieces of chicken was $17. It wasn't off a kid's menu - fyi they don't have one... definitely a bit of a sticker-shock there. Overall I don't know if I would make the drive out here again. As Chef Anthony Bourdain said, "Context and memory play powerful roles in all the truly great meals in one's life." The Longview Steakhouse recently furnished my dinner companions and I with wonderful memories on a special occasion, and prepared cuisine that bordered on religious experience. The restaurant décor is simple, unintimidating and suitable for the Foothills area, with no need to sport a Perry Ellis suit or evening gown to gain entry. This point was highlighted by the trio of aesthetically gifted, denim clad lovelies at the next table. The simmering sound of Oscar Lopez playing Spanish guitar in the background added to the informal and comfortable warmth of the room. This is clearly a place to have fun and not stand on ceremony. I ordered a rather risky appetizer for my table - coriander chicken with a most pleasant twist. The dish arrived, and before I'd even finished dividing it up amongst my companions, conversation halted abruptly and was replaced with softly drawn-out moans of ecstasy. Sampling my own slice of heaven, and divinely struck by a flavor that transcended syntax, I joined the chorus with a pleasure-filled "MMMmmmmm." The chicken was a cinnamon dusted, sugar sprinkled, pastry wrapped miracle. Our attentive and knowledgeable server recommended a bottle of Nugan, a triumphant vino floridly expressing its bouquet immediately after being uncorked. Earthy tones, tannins abound, inspiring boisterous Pagan celebration that Dionysus himself would applaud. Our entrees were delivered, my John Dory and seafood-stuffed ravioli heading the pack. The presentation is simple and elegant, the portions appropriate for a satisfying meal. My fish was cooked to perfection and the ravioli was a momentous blitz of all things delectable. My dinner companions were equally awed with their orders of pork tenderloin and steak. We continued to talk and laugh among ourselves, with other patrons, and the staff, no one wanting the evening to end. The Longview Steakhouse is family owned and run, and when my group asked who the chef of the evening was, actively involved host and owner Tari proudly informed us that his son had prepared our meals. As a paradigm of the service guests can expect at the Steakhouse, my family had filled the restaurant for my Grandmother's birthday some time ago, and, as my family shares a palate for fine spirits, some of our favored brands were unavailable. Tari, without preview or request, took it upon himself to go out and purchase the desired labels just to make our evening grander. I live outside of Calgary on an acreage (though work downtown Calgary), so I tend to sample a wide range of restaurants both in the city, and surrounding areas. It was while attending a hockey game in Okotoks, that I learned from the locals one of the more amazing secrets around: The Longview Steakhouse. It's a bit of a mind-trip, so let me give some background first. At the game, people around me were chatting about this steakhouse in glowing terms: like for special occasions such as anniversaries, with a choice of ANY restaurant in Calgary or otherwise, THIS is their favorite place to go. One mentioned having friends from New York, who dined out continuously in fantastic restaurants, proclaiming their meal at this Steakhouse as "the best they've ever had." What?!? That was my initial thought... having driven through Longview MANY times, I don't think I ever noticed it being there. Apparently, according to the regulars who pried, the owners are actually chefs from Europe who emigrated to Canada, and decided to open a restaurant in a small town. And in the process, to serve food that ranks with the best. By all accounts, their food is unbelievable. So I had to try it, because I really couldn't wrap my head around the possibility of this being true. Reservations were made (yes, you need a reservation, because the secret is out for those in the area). The Physical Restaurant: Part of what makes this an unbelievable experience is that the restaurant is just one of several store fronts and retail shops facing the highway. It pretty much looks like a small town diner from the outside. Nothing unique, or distinct from the others around it. Inside, it's basically a nicely prepared "country" space. You aren't walking into a trendy 8th avenue eatery. At dinner time, the lighting was set to a warm level - which described the ambiance. Warm, pleasant. A good start for face time with your companion. Now, what I've described so far could appear in any small town. But the operation behind it is not small town by any means. Service is provided by family members (my understanding), and they bring the European attitude of serving as a profession, not as a way to pay for college. With pride, they will gladly provide details on the menu, as well as the wine list, and how particular wines will pair with your menu choices. Pro's. The "Steakhouse" in the name is misleading (and perhaps the name predates the owners, I don't know), because it isn't all about meat. The scope of menu items and daily specials are what you'd expect from a well executed, high end restaurant. And what can I say... they delivered on the hype. Everything start to finish. The right wine, appetizers, entrees... preparation, flavors, sauces, service, etc., was top notch. It was the type of meal I'd expect from the top Calgary restaurants. Actually, usually those places disappoint me (too high expectations). This place did not. Definitely going back. It would be a great way to end a day in Kananaskis, exiting into Longview on highway 40, but turning right for dinner, rather than left back to Calgary. read more

Then when we arrived and parked in the dirt lot, the unassuming front of the place made me even more unsure this was going to be epic. (My friends had said good things, so I was putting my trust in them and along for an adventure.) Once the first dish was served, some perfectly-cooked halibut in a bowl of the most flavorful sauce I could image, I was blown away. The focus here is on the FOOD and a bit of service. Each dish is presented in a way that makes it appealing to look at and deliciously satisfying to savor. From first course thru to desert, I was completely impressed. And the best part was that I didn't really have to order anything, the chef just asked about what I did (and didn't want) and took it from there. I am never disappointed when I come here! The food is always so amazing and the family that owns/operates this gem are wonderful, friendly and charming. It usually takes a while to get a reservation but it's always worth it. Last night we came here for a birthday and everyone left more than satisfied. I had the 50-day aged steak and soup to start. I have been there many times... I don't think I have ever gotten an entre besides the Chateaubriand. It is that good. I look at the other options but I can't be at this place and not have it. Disclaimer it is for 2 (separate plates :P ), so maybe someday I'll be 3rd wheeling it and have to get a Rib Eye... I'm sure that will be amazing as well. This place is great. Especially when it comes to the food and the overall experience of being there. Driving up to it you wouldn't think you should expect much but once the ultra friendly staff greet you and feed you, you will forget how ordinary the building looked and realize you have found a culinary gem in the foothills. The food is totally delicious. All aspects. People in our party preferred some dishes over others (as anyone would) but even the least preferred dish was something all of us would be very happy to eat and pay good money for. The sauces and soups are incredible. These guys seem to have a knack for building flavor profile in anything non-solid that they serve. I would go hear just for sampling of their sauces matched to wine! Book early (more than a two weeks probably) because it's a small dining room and those who know of it clearly come back often. Plan for 45-60 min of driving from Calgary. Take your time though and enjoy some of the most beautiful countryside Alberta has to offer. Not the best place for young kids as there is no kids menu. They will eat well if you bring them though! I'm sure if you did bring kids, the electric personality of the family who run the Longview Steakhouse will go a long way toward even making the kids feel welcome and entertained. I took my brother who was visiting from San Diego here. We both had the rib eye special for the day we were there. The service and food was excellent. The mushroom sauce was so good that we had the waiter bring us some extra bread so we could mop up every drop of it. It was great to see the expression on our servers face when he saw how much we were enjoying and savouring our meal. Went here this past Saturday evening for dinner. Their were 8 of us, and we were celebrating my father-in law's 75th birthday along with Mother's day with my mother in law. If you want to eat here on the weekend, I would suggest calling at least a few days ahead. The only reservation I was able to get was for 5 p.m. This place was fully booked. I also noticed during the time we were here, they had to turn away at least 5 other groups of people who didn't make a reservation. I'm glad I read other reviews and made my reservation. The wait staff are very friendly, and keep up with topping off your drinks. It's a small place, and casual ambience inside. The food presentation, is one that you might find in a more upscale restaurant in Calgary. They have this menu board, on a stand (like a presentation board or white board) it highlights the days features. Tonight, at the top of the menu board they featured a rib eye steak. It was accompanied by some julienned vegetables and potatoes. You also have your choice of soup and salad. The food took a little while before it got to the table. I guess good food takes time to prepare. Three of us ordered the prime rib and shrimp featured on the menu. It was with everyone in agreement that we all enjoyed our meals. The ladies at our table ordered the salmon (they all said it was very good) and my son ordered the filet mignon. my son asked if I wanted to try a piece and I said sure. It was melt in your mouth tender. I will definitely be back to longview steakhouse for a special occasion. If you are looking for the best meat, friendly Albertan service and a place where everyone is welcome and can feel comfortable there is no other place to go than the Longview Steakhouse. I have been there four times now. It is an hour south of Calgary. I had 28 day aged beef from the local Chinook Ranch and it was the most flavourful and tender New York I have ever eaten, plated with panache and cooked to perfection. THANKS! read more

I have been going to this Steak House from the time it was down town in Longview. I'm a very fussy and picky eater. Let me tell you if its steak or anything else they serve its perfect from the hospitality ,food, drinks, deserts, wine, coffee's they have it nailed to perfection. We have also stayed over night there which includes breakfast, which by the way is to die for. We usually go with a couple that have eaten at many places around the world at very fine restaurants, they always say this is the best place to go to. When you can go out and have a fine meal and have fun with the people that work there its worth everything, there not waiting to push you out the door for the next crew to come in. These fine people book months in advance, so I if you think you can get in next weekend never will happen. Not cheap, but perhaps some of the best food he has ever eaten. Tiny little diner, non assuming, in Longview. Where is Longview some may ask? Well let me tell you, Longview is the home of likely the best rib eye steak I have ever had and some of the best salad, desert and service too! Went there with two other couples and had likely one of the most memorable meals of my life. If I could give this more stars I would. 10/10 Prefect portions and perfectly timed. All flavours were crisp clean and extremely palatable. Servers are prompt polite funny and efficient. An excellent experience already rebooked our next visit. Best tenderloin I have had and cooked to ultimate perfection. Kudos to all the staff. read more
