We were seated at a very delapidated seat at the window and given menus. I noticed a lot of east indian meals listed. Our order was taken by a nice young waitress and brought out in short order. My order consisted of sausage/eggs/toast and potato chunks. The plate looked quite bland, not extremely appealing, the sausage was dripping so much oil that i used two napkins to soak up the residual. The eggs cooked as requested, the potato chunks were dried up as if left over from the previous day. I have never before seen assorted jams repackaged in small containers and left out on the table. This was the first time i have been offered a visa machine to pay where the tip starts at 15%. Next time in Nanton we will not return to the Bridge but try another restaurant.

My mother-in-law had a breakfast bagel and my mom and I tried an espresso and ice cream desert. This desert is awesome by the way and consists of coffee ice cream, condensed milk, espresso and a chocolate wafer stick. There might even be some whipped cream in there. Tumbleweed is a nice change of scenery after a few hours of everything vintage.

I walk up to the counter and check out coffee prices - 8 oz $1.50, 12 oz $1.75, 16 oz $2.00 etc. I say hello to the guy behind the counter and order an 8 oz coffee. He tells the girl working I want an 8 oz coffee... She picks up the small cup and says "this is an insult to coffee. Who orders these cups anyway? So I know who I can punch." Hmm awkward. This banter goes back and forth for about a minute over who she can punch while I stand there and wait for my coffee. Dude then says to me "I've had to work with this all day." I hand her a toonie to pay for my coffee and she says "..hmm $2.00 works." Puts it in the till and walks away. I stare at the board again and am confused. I have to pee so I use the bathroom and over hear the girl bragging about how she over charged me. Cue: irritation. As a customer, i would like service, not to be your personal counsellor while you vent about work issues. I am paying after all, no? Walking back out to the counter I look at the guy at the counter and say "I think she overcharged me for my coffee." And he replies that yes she did. I say I ordered an 8 oz and she charged me $2 and he opens the till to give me back my 50 cents,.. But then.. Cashier girl walks out from the back and says "no! Don't give her back her quarters." Cue: super pissed off look courtesy of me. I take my quarters and turn around, clenched jaw to walk out. I hear her mutter "..what!?" Under her breath, clearly getting reprimanded. To ice the cake - she overcharged my husband too. And from glancing in their tip jar I would say it's a regular occurrence - there were TONS of loonies and toonies and I guarantee those weren't gratuity for their mind blowing coffee (it's awful), nor their spectacular (read: awful) service. Never the hell again. I will have gas station coffee over that nonsense any day.

My lovely friend and coworker Angie at Black Dog Ranch (check out her account for adorable dog photos) has a beautiful ranch south of the city and she led me to these donuts that are the talk of Black Diamond. Naturally I had to get my hands on some. Rules for ordering your Westwood Donuts: 1 They change up their flavours every week, so if a round appeals to you, jump on it! 2 You have to place your order on Wednesday before they sell out. Don't press the snooze on this. 3 There's only a short window on Saturday for pick-up (12-3PM on Saturdays). Once you've completed the steps above, you're on your way to donut heaven. RATING: 9/10 - Westwood: Donuts The dough is everything you want it to be--soft, fluffy and fresh. It makes a great base for the various donut creations. I had the pleasure of trying these flavours: Chocolate Fudge Filled: With rich chocolate custard and coated in cinnamon sugar. You can't go wrong here. Banana Cream Pie: This tasted exactly like it sounds. Fragrant banana custard with whip and bananas on top. If you did a blind taste test, it would be hard to differentiate this from the real pie. Nerds Glaze: Imagine a blue raspberry starburst. This one was sweet, tropical and sour. Lemon Glaze: Pound cake in donut form. I adored the natural lemon flavour!
