This restaurant is an absolute must if you are in the High River area!! The food is amazing, service was good, and the restaurant definitely has the ambiance and atmosphere.

I had a perfect lunchtime experience here yesterday. The clerk at Olive & Finch (another great High River business) strongly suggested Evelyn's as a great place to grab a bite. From the moment I walked through the door, I was warmly greeted and took a seat at one of the 50s-style diner booths. With helpful assistance from my waiter, I chose wisely. Do not miss the beet salad... I repeat, do not miss the beet salad. Because the main component of my lunch entrée was vegetable, I treated myself to a slice of local Saskatoon, berry pie à la mode (just to keep things in balance). I felt tears welling up as I took the last bite! It took all of my willpower not to lick the plate. I had the opportunity to meet the chef...a delightful woman who brings Evelyn's patrons a lot of joy through her skills in the kitchen. It's probably a good thing that I do not live closer than Seattle...a daily slice of Saskatoon pie à la mode could begin to take a toll pretty quickly. Run...do not walk...to Evelyn's.

Flipping through the channels on the TV in the hotel, I landed on a special (not a commercial) mentioning this place. The sandwiches looked great, the desserts looked great, the whole place looked great. I found it here on Yelp and bookmarked it. The restaurant is a good 50 km south of Calgary, but it's worth it. Especially if you have nothing else to do and don't mind a drive through scenic flat-lands on a highway. Yep, it's a 50's diner. Very small menu of breakfast and lunch items, plus counters loaded in yummy desserts. I had the chicken sandwich, just like it was shown on TV. Fresh chunked up roasted chicken (not that deli-sliced nonsense) with cranberry sauce on a hearty grain bread and sliced in half with a pickle. Excellent. I also had the girls pop a piece of that blackberry pie in a to go box, which I enjoyed later. Yummy, but it would have been better if I'd stayed and had it with a scoop of ice cream. I really hope this place fills up for the lunchtime crowd - this is a small business that deserves to succeed!

Strawberry rhubarb pie and lemon meringue pie!

Stopped in purely based on reviews and wasn't disappointed. They're doing a lot of construction outside on the street in front of the diner, but it was still packed when we arrived around noon on a Saturday. We drooled over the pastry display case and managed to snag a booth by the front. Service is super friendly and our server was patient and helpful with her suggestions. We ordered the lemon meringue pie and the strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. I also ordered the iced lychee green tea. The pies were super fresh and delicious. Loved the crusts!! The lemon meringue was a mile high and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The strawberry rhubarb was full of both and had a crisp top. Both were definite hits. The tea was also deeeelish - the lychee added a wonderful sweetness and it was so refreshing. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area. Although we didn't order food, the meals passing by to other tables looked beautiful. I'd love to come back!

That secret you really don't want to share. Most likely one of the best restaurants, I've ever experienced. Every visit and entree is 10 out of 10, each and every time. Everything from ice cream, desserts to the entrees are hand made. That says it all! Don't get me started about the delightful staff that puts up with me and my guests every visit.

As a local, I have been here 3 or 4 times. I have always found it to have decent food and decent service. Outstanding deserts. On my most recent visit, it became clear that they were down a waitress. The service was pretty bad. Things happen and I understand. It was the printed pamphlet that really made me shake my head. Unless you can provide flawless service to every single guest, every single time, you have no business schooling paying customers on how to be "proper" guests. I felt very offended and won't be back.

Christine is an amazing server super polite and interested in our day! Food was fresh and delicious but make sure to save room for dessert :) the dessert counter will catch your eye right away full of home made pies, cakes and other yummy treats.

Hutterite chicken with cranberries on homemade bread with side beet salad.

As soon as you walk in the door the hostess/server greets you warmly. There is an option for take-out or dine in at a 50's style restaurant complete with personal juke boxes and a train that navigates its way above you and can be turned on if you ask nicely. I visited over the lunch hour and the atmosphere was charged with happy energy and constant turning of tables. I chose a pot of tea, half Hutterite chicken sandwich and a beet salad. The sandwich was prepared on fresh baked bread (available for purchase) with a light layer of cranberry sauce. The side salad consisted of a healthy portion of homemade pickled beets with carrot and sunflower seeds. A nice balance between sour and crunchy. You need to leave room for dessert as the showcase is full of homemade choices. Cakes, squares, cinnamon buns, pies and crumbles. I settled on a hot piece of strawberry rhubarb crumble pie with whipped cream. Although for some Calgarians this may seem out of the way, the drive is so enjoyable and you'll be glad you took yourself back in time to the way life used to be before fast food.

Beet salad and the Healthy Sandwich. So good!

This truck just might be my new favourite barbecue joint in the city. I got the brisket sandwich…read morefor $13 with a complimentary side of fried mac'n'cheese. Completely filling and completely delicious. The meat is loaded with smokey flavour, is soft and juice, and since it appears to be from some sort of hopefully reputable ranch, is mostly likely good quality beef. The Fried mac n cheese makes for and excellent side. It tastes pan fried instead of deep fried - the gooey mac n cheese goodness you crave, but with some crunchy bits for interest. Loved it as I side but not sure that I think it's a stand alone item. The BBQ sauce is tasty and original - traditional BBQ flavour but with load of peppercorn. I want to put it on everything! That said, a sauce bar would do this truck well. Maybe a few different BBQ sauces or hot sauces to put on things and let you customize your sandwich a bit. You just can't find a BBQ sauce that will please everyone - it's science. Alberta is home to some amazing beef so I'm glad to see a new, worthwhile BBQ truck in this city. If you're at a food truck rally and can't decide which truck to spend your money at - Ranch BBQ is well worth a try.

Thought I was getting potato wedges and really it was a side of ripple chips.. sadly disappointing for something connected with a reputable ranch venue.
