So this is one of the nicest steakhouses in Calgary, overlooking a man made river. They have a strict dress code of nicer clothing, and everyone there looked as though they dripped of money. We went in for a super late reservation of 9:15pm, because on Wednesdays, they have a nice special dinner for two that comes with an 18 oz ribeye, cheese bread, two salads, two side dishes, and a slice of cheesecake. This place screams luxury. The bathroom has an attendant (sign outside says no tip) that walked over to give me a fresh towel every time I washed my hands. They also had pads, tampons, mints, floss, extra clothes, anything you could think of for grabs! When I got up to use the restroom, my server looped his arm around mine to escort me there. It was genuinely quite insane lol!!! We tried the Waldorf salad and the house salad. Waldorf was delicious - who knew celery, apples, walnuts, and arugula in a creamy dressing would be so refreshing?? The house salad was pretty standard with a nice addition of radishes. Then came the cheesy bread. That was so insanely fluffy and cheesy - literally some of the best bread I've ever had. Reminiscent of the Taiwanese cheesy garlic bread. The steak was very hearty and perfectly medium!! We had the roasted mushrooms and the broccolini. Broccolini was perfect - just the right chew, crunchy but soft inside, with a light lemon butter and garlic on top. The mushrooms were a bit heavier. They came out perfect, but the longer the sat, the longer it marinated. We finished with the cheesecake. This is on the heavier side, and a great way to finish out the meal! Well we didn't get the wow factors after hearing so much about this restaurant. Didn't start off well as they seemed to have misplaced our reservation , they were however able to seat us it was early for 5:00 pm . Being a little irritated didn't seem to start the dinner off with a bang , but we were looking forward to enjoying the meal. We had the scallops however being uncooked and smothered In a sauce that was heavy and greasy it lost the delicate taste of the scallops. I had half a bite and didn't finish it. Between the scallop being definitely undercooked and the overwhelming sauce and shoe string potato's chip's thrown on the top it was an unusual combination and disappointing. Next onto the cheese toast. Well let's just say it wasn't our favorite I ordered the lamb and when it was set down in front of me I thought it had broccoli on the side. ! Nope it was so heavily coated in green parsley rosemary and it sure looked like a vegetable. Chairman's is an upscale steakhouse in SE Calgary. Classic decor but modern and comfortable. Subtle "Ratpack" theme is a nice touch. The menu is steak centric and features Alberta, US, Australian and Japanese cuts. Other menu choices are available too and there's an excellent selection of sides, appetizers and sauces. My ribeye was perfect and we also enjoyed steak tartare and tuna tartare as well as mushrooms and broccolini. Great wine list and cocktails are creative. We were driving so couldn't try any alcoholic beverages but there are nice mocktails. Service is crisp and friendly. Parking is a bit scarce and don't forget to register at the front. I liked our evening here but the location is a bit of a tense drive from downtown or the northwest so I likely won't be a regular. read more

First time here. Chairman's didn't disappoint. Well decorated, clean and well dressed hostess and servers. One of the best I have eaten in SE Calgary if not one of the best in Calgary. Server was super friendly and knowledgeable about wine and menu. Wifey and I both started with Caesar salad that had real cooked crispy and toast. This is more of a 4.5 stars. The only reason it's not 5 is that I don't think we were wowed enough for the price. The service here was exceptional. Our server was very attentive and friendly. He quickly went through the menu with us and even brought out all the cuts of steak for us to see. He also went over each cut, explained the difference and the recommended doneness. We got cheese toast as an appetizer which we both enjoyed. They had Japanese wagyu the day we went but we opted for Alberta prime beef. We ordered the porterhouse to share which came with some salt so you could add more to your liking. It also included 2 sides - we got upgraded sides of the Brussels sprouts and gnocchi. It was a beautiful space, great views and attentive staff but the execution needs work. The food was very mediocre. I had the 14oz ribeye and it was tough, grisly and not cooked to the proper temp. I did mention this with some constructive criticism and the staff and management took it well and also removed my meal from the bill. I genuinely wanted to provide honest feedback so they could make adjustments and improvements for the future guests. My friend's ribeye had the same issues but he was hungry so he ate it all anyway. On a good note, my wife's tenderloin was excellent and cooked perfectly. The truffle gnocchi was also delicious as well as the truffle baked potato. Drinks were also quite good. The smoked whiskey old fashions were worth mentioning. Sadly Chairman's was all show no go. Better communication as to how the steaks are best prepared could have made a difference. The manger said the recommended temp for the ribeyes are medium which I found odd as I generally order them medium rare. Overall I was underwhelmed as I had high hopes for this place. I would however maybe give it another shot if I am ever in the area again. Tip: no hats allowed on the dining room. This was not mentioned anywhere on the website so this was a surprise. My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday, we sat in the lounge. Our overall experience was ...Okay, not amazing, not terrible, but Okay. Our server was great, very pleasant, friendly & attentive. We ended up driving across the city to go for dinner as we live in the deep NW and when we spend $350 on a dinner for 2, my expectations are higher than that of an Earls or Cactus Club First - we ordered a Porterhouse dinner for 2, server came back 5 minutes later and said they were all out - not a big deal we decided on another meal. Second - we ordered a bottle of wine, server came back 5 minutes later and said they were all out - again, not a huge deal, we ordered another bottle. Third - meals came out kind of cold, felt as if the steak sat in the heat lamp for a long while. But nonetheless, tasted Ok. Finally - When we got our bill, the price of the bottle of wine was more expensive on the bill than outlined on the menu. Again, I didn't argue about $11 difference as its not the end of the world, but was very surprised that our bill was not changed or fixed, I ended up paying the higher price for the bottle of wine. We had an amazing dinner date @chairmansyyc! This restaurant is to die for. I can't get over the decor. . Unfortunately, they didn't have the 36oz wagyu tomahawk that night, but they suggested the 14oz tajima wagyu and it did not disappoint! The decorations and even the washroom were extraordinarily beautiful. Every little detail was not over looked. Even the menu lights up when you open it. If you eat on the restaurant side, you have one of the best views of mahogany lake. If you opt for the lounge, you can have a view of the fountain. Both views are stunning. It's a place you definitely want to check out for special occasions. I had the mussels and fries which were decent. The mussels were cooked to perfection in a tomato based sauce that was good. However, I wish they would provided me some bread to soak up more of the sauce. The fries were interestingly topped with sugar and aioli sauce to dipped on the side. To celebrate, I had the Moscow mule which was delicious! For dessert, I had the cheesecake that was extra creamy with a nice brittle on top. Although everything looks fabulous, the mussels and the cheesecake were not as unforgettable as the restaurant. My Ribeye was cooked perfectly and and chicken supreme was perfect, Chairman's fries excellent, potato rosti was meh, only complaint was the mushrooms which were cold and undercooked. We did mention this and they were removed from the bill, the service was outstanding all around. We enjoyed the carrot cake and the creme brulee for dessert. Extremely fancy and I should've read the dress code before going. We were super underdressed but the staff didn't seem to mind. Everyone was still very nice and I love that they came out to explain the different cuts. We ended up ordering the filet mignon and rib eye. So good! The meat really melts in your mouth. Didn't get in the door far enough to find out much about this restaurant!! I am a Fashion Editor so I know how to dress for heaven's sake!! Granted I did not read the "Dress Code" requirements as I was on vacation and went to this restaurant from a recommendation that I received. We planned to eat outside as the weather was warm. I wore designer walking shorts, a silk camisole and a nice black jacket. My husband and I were "greeted" at the front door by a RUDE female manager asking us to leave because they do not accept shorts attire. I was embarrassed and could not believe my ears!! In my 70 years, I have NEVER been refused service because of the way I was dressed!! I guess if I had worn a dress so short that my but was hanging out - that would have been OK since they accept dresses!!!! My husband informed her that I was wearing designer clothing and we reserved seating for outside but that did not make ANY difference to her! Dress up if you want to eat here - even God doesn't mind if you wear designer walking shorts to church but God does not own this restaurant. Overall ok. I came with really high expectations since my manager was telling me many great things about it so I booked dinner here for my wedding anniversary. First off, absolutely beautiful place. Like gorgeous and with the lake as a backdrop? It was so nice being there. We started off with the cheese toast which was an amazing blend of cheese curd, white cheddar and gouda. Naturally, for our mains, we both got the steak because this is what they're known for right? We examined the raw board and ooohed and aaahed over each cut (fyi they use Canada prime and also had an Australian wagyu cross feature that night). I decided on the striploin while hubby got the ribeye. The steaks came and they smelled amazing. Mine was cooked to my liking, but hubby wasn't happy with his. For a ribeye it was quite lean - barely had any marbling. The more he ate it the more dissatisfied he became. About 1/3 into it our server Ed came to check on us and hubby relayed his comments. Strangely, he commented saying that as he saw the chef plating it he noted the marbling was more off to the side than to the center. We were convinced that he was served a striploin instead of a ribeye. Ed then brought over the manager and he offered to cook us a new one, but hubby said no since he already ate almost 1/2 of it at this point, and that it was a good steak, but definitely not the ribeye he was expecting. So he offered to charge us for a striploin instead which we accepted. I will say they will fix any issues you may have, but at $53 a steak we shouldn't even have this problem. The sides - asparagus was soggy and overcooked but the upgraded black truffle stuffed potato was amazing. Get it. Creme brulee was very nice. Service was average. Ed did his job but could've been more personable. He did go get his manager for us when he found out that hubby wasn't happy with his steak, but I also had to ask him to refill my water which I feel a restaurant this caliber... Kinda disappointed in this restaurant. I ordered the Fresh East coast oysters with their sauces. Sauces were terrible, oysters didn't have much taste. I should have ordered a salad instead. Waitress brought us bread - turned out to be 3 mini slices of bread so thin, it was a joke, as we were 3 people. Each person got a mini slice. I then ordered a 14 oz ribeye, medium rare. Steak was way too thin, overdone and my steak knife had to saw through it. It was tough. Another disappointment. Thankfully my husband shared his steak - a tenderloin. The experience was non the less disappointing, considering the very high prices. Even the wine I ordered - Pino Grigio was flat tasting and boring, my husband took a sip and agreed. Sometimes getting a reservation can be tricky due to the popularity of the restaurant, but what would you expect when everyone like its. I have to say, the place itself is stunning. It's located in the beautiful Mahogany area and nestled inside the courtyard of residential complexes and other shops. Unless you already live in the deep south, the location is quite​ far. I was, however, slightly jealous that this neighborhood had this luxurious (almost private) steakhouse only a few steps away. There is also complimentary​ heated underground parking which is a nice plus in our often chilly city. As I was the first to arrive, it gave me a minute to admire the interior as I was blown away with how beautiful the decor was. The bull statue and the gold accents everywhere were truly eye-catching. We were seated next to the floor-to-ceiling windows which gave another outstanding​ view of the lake. Even the washrooms were extraordinarily​ beautiful. My friend and I took part in​ the YYC dinner experience​ but we also wanted to try other aspects of the menu. I didn't order a drink because the prices were insane ($20/cocktail? No thanks). As for dinner​ itself, everything was just ok and very overpriced. We order the tuna tartare and were going to get the scallops but when we heard that it was just 2 scallops for $19 we quickly passed on it. The tuna wasn't​ anything special, a little salty though. The YYC dining experience was a prie fix menu ($40/person) which included tomato soup, 8 oz NY striploin,​ and a chocolate mousse. The price mostly went to cover the cost of the steak itself as the tomato soup and chocolate mousse are overall inexpensive dishes and pretty standard. I was hopeful that these dishes would be elevated in some way, unfortunately,​​ neither of these​ dishes stood out for​ me. As for the main event, the steak, it again fell a little short. I've had way better steak at Cactus Club for half the cost. My friend and I also got the black truffle gnocchi​ to share and it was pretty good. I thought the sauce was great, but there was very little of it. As for the service, it was pretty slow and we felt pretty forgotten at the end of it. It took our server over 30 min to get our bill. Overall, while Chairman's makes for a picture-perfect​ restaurant, I wished the food and service matched the glamour of the place. For its​ price point, I was expecting outstanding quality all across the board but I was unfortunately pretty disappointed. read more

The building is quite nice and the attempt at being a Ruth's Chris or Perry is worth mentioning BUT Here's the problem... the food really isn't that great. Steaks are about the same cut, prep and presentation as you'd find at the Keg or Outback but at 3x the cost. $7+ for a seltzer water? No thanks. The food server was banal borderline boring and just didn't energy to be there. They served the wrong cut (clearly with wasn't a ribeye) and tried to argue that it was. They finally caved and served the cut well after everyone else at the table had finished. If you're into just showing up to say you're spending a lot of money on a meal or smelling your own farts then have at it. If you're about having a hell of a steak and fixins...IMO there are a ton of other options that you can choose from. read more

We came in from out of province and the birthday girl chose this place to show us what Alberta beef is all about since she had been before and quite enjoyed it. Most of the group are avid diners so expectations were high. The decor is stunning and the cocktails were a good start - they took a bit of time but we could see they were busy and our server Natalie kept us occupied with her thorough and informative display of the meats. They were amazing but definitely not worth $22 for two scallops only. My boyfriend and I ordered steak. Striploin and Ribeye and they were only seasoned with salt and pepper. Mine was $57 and his was $43. Definitely not worth that kind of money for salt and pepper. Service was awesome, but the food did not match its prices. Modern steakhouse has much better tasting steaks. The view from the window overlooking the lake weather in the spring, summer, fall or winter. I've only eaten in the dining room but not the lounge. Just finished dinner at Chairman's Steakhouse, it was an excellent meal. The decor, service and food were excellent. Our server Jay, was especially thoughtful, despite being really busy this evening. He made sure we had everything we needed, was fun to talk to and made excellent recommendations. The steak was amazing but the carrot cake needs special recognition.
