a sign for ruth's chris steak house

I stopped by Ruth's Chris in downtown Calgary quite a while ago. The atmosphere and service were good. Their crab cake and creme brulee are must try items. Their steak (ribeye) was pretty good. Overall, I'd give it 8.5/10

Love this place! Especially for big birthday dinners! They have multiple private rooms that can seat up to 20 people. They give you free parking if you park at the Palliser parkade. I have come here 3 times for birthdays and it's always a great time and amazing food! They have sooo many yummy things on their menu that you will want to share everything!!! Which is what we did. Lobster Mac and cheese: 10/10!!! MUST ORDER IF YOU LOVE A GOOD MAC AND CHEESE. I haven't had a better Mac and cheese anywhere else. Their macaroni is not mushy it's perfectly al dente and their cheese sauce is perfection so creamy and not lacking flavour or cheese! Their cowboys steak: 9/10 VERY JUICY AND BIG it took 3 of us to finish it! My friends liked the filet better said it was more soft and flavourful but I really liked the cowboy steak. Roasted Brussels sprouts: 9/10 because I love Brussels sprouts and it had so much flavour however it lost a point because it wasn't all crispy. It was soaked in a delicious butter sauce and some leaves were crispy but still delicious! Best side dish hands down for me. Blackened scallops on risotto: 8/10 nothing super special about this but scallops were cooked perfectly but the risotto just didn't taste like risotto I think on a creamy risotto wouldn't accompanied the scallops better. I probably wouldn't order this one again though. Crab cake stuffed mushrooms: 7/10 my friend really loved this that she orders it everytime she comes but when I tried it - average tasting nothing stood out I much prefer their side sautéed mushrooms.

Came here for a birthday celebration with the family. Located in the same complex as the Calgary tower and there's underground parking (note the resultant will reimburse the parking ticket). When we first arrive there was a nice special touch to our table; they decorated with tiny happy birthday confetti and a birthday card. Our waiter was friendly but the food took really long to come out. We all ordered the ribeye and it was good. The stake was super soft. The sides were served family style. The Brussels sprouts and mash potatoes were our favourites. We ended the night with cream brûlée and it was the best I ever had..... best way to end the night!

What an incredible steak house! The appetizers are to die for (we really enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms, crab cakes AND the shrimp cocktail), while the melt-in-your-mouth 11oz steak was impressive. Never had a steak melt in my mouth quite like it has at Ruth's Chris over the years. If you're in for steak, this is a MUST visit. In this case, you get what you pay for also. Probably the worst most expensive steak I've had. Overpriced & zero flavour! If I didn't ask for the peppercorn sauce on the side it would've been tasteless!!

I've been here twice now and I must say than BOTH experiences were incredible. The food is unreal. Top quality no question!! Mouth watering just thinking about it. The drinks are made to perfection. Any time I would be thinking about ordering something, the waiter would give his opinions on what's good and what's not. He was honest with everything. The server was super friendly. So the second time I went was for my Anniversary and they decorated our table with confetti. It was really nice. We got free dessert as well. I'm super happy with this place and I can't wait to come back.

My mother handed my cousins and I her credit card and said go enjoy your cousin's birthday. What she did was the worst mistake a mother can do, offer the open option agreement. I believe in her head she thought we would modestly go for pizza or perhaps if a little daring Chinese. Oh no of course not, we headed directly to Ruth's Chris. Ruth's Chris Steak House sits directly at the base of the Calgary Tower; I don't need a view to enjoy what I know to be a very expensive meal. Entering the restaurant, we were literally giggling, I mean my cousins and I are well beyond our late twenties. But giggling? Of course we started our first course with martinis, whisky and white wine. Appetizers of shrimp, and salads were soon ordered. What another round of drinks? Sure! And of course what RC's is known for, top of the line Alberta Grade A beef, I mean this is a steak house. Be careful though, if you do order one of the many sides, (baked potato, mashed potato etc) just get one because these are big portions and can be an even bigger dent to the pocket book if ordered per person. The ambience in this place is dressed for Calgary's elite; a very classy deco interior, with brass and dark wood detailing, staff is formal, friendly and pristine. Dressed to the tens with the best service this city should offer, we were absolutely delighted. So the ticket price of 3, enjoying drinks, appys and a steak meal at RC's? Well it's 40 for 50 dollars a steak, so round it off $300 and don't forget the 20% gratuity. In this yelpers opinion, is it worth the hype? If you want to impress a very important business associate perhaps, but for you're out of town guests or that special steak meal, R.C's is not my personal first choice, I can enjoy a nice meal at the Keg or Cattle Baron for half the price. Needless to say my mother never offered her credit card again.

Found out the story of the name of the restaurant. Chris Steak House had burnt down and Ruth bought out Chris Steeak House, thus the name Ruth's Chris Steak House. Enough of history lesson...on to the food! This was part of an office luncheon. There were 6 of us - 5 ordered the Steak Sandwich and I ordered the 6 oz Beef Tenderloin. The Steak Sandwich came with either soup or fries and a little salad. Those who ate the Steak Sandwich loved it! One of the 5 had the Louisiana Gumbo Soup and she liked it. 2 others orderd the Onion Soup Au Gratin and it was OK. My lunch also came with a starter salad - it's OK, not fantastic. My Beef Tenderloin was just right. I had it done rare - it came out sizzling on a white plate and my 2 side choices of brocolli and mushrooms were a great combo to my lunch. It was about the size of your palm and about 1 1/2 " high just like a little cake! Dessert time! OMG - it was the best part of the whole lunch - I had the Caramelized Banana Cream Pie - fantastic! Then, we also ordered the Chocolate Sin Cake - so chocolatey and absolutely flourless! The other 2 desserts were the Bread Pudding with the Whiskey Sauce - delicious and warm and finally, the Sesonal Berries with Sweet Cream Sauce - a little too sweet for me! According to the waiter, the Bread Pudding and the Chocolate Sin Cake are the no. 1 favourites in the restaurant. See photos. It was an expensive meal but truly a memorable one! If you want a fancy meal, pick Ruth's Chris Steak House.

We started with the appetizers, the beef carpaccio and Caesar salad, both were excellent and really set a good tone for the evening. The carpaccio was well-seasoned and fresh, and the salad had a nice balance of creamy and crisp. For our main, we went with the Canada Prime bone-in porterhouse, which came with two sides. The jalapeño creamed corn tasted more like jalapeño grits than corn, which threw me off a bit, it wasn't really my thing. The twice-cooked fingerlings with bacon, chives, and sour cream, on the other hand, were delicious, crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the steak itself missed the mark for me. It arrived lukewarm, not hot like you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse, which was disappointing. For a cut that's supposed to be the star of the show, the temperature really detracted from the experience. To finish off, we kept it light with two scoops of gelato, one cherry vanilla and the other a lemon sorbet. Both were refreshing and hit the spot for a light, sweet ending. Service was definitely a strong point, our server was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the night. Overall, it was a mixed experience: great apps, strong service, but the main event which was the steak it just didn't deliver like I'd hoped. I'd give it another try, but probably order something different next time.

The lobster mac and cheese was my least favourite, it wasn't bad more like average, not a lot of lobster pieces.

The "baked" potato was microwaved vs actually baked And it was so cool that the butter I put on it didn't melt. Ordered a side of garlic prawns and got 3 small unflavored shrimp instead that were maybe an inch long if you stretched it out. my sons fries were undercooked (some weren't even golden, they were still potato white) And said some of them were kinda crunchy/stiff. I had the owners cut of prime rib and it was smaller than the last two times I had been to smugglers where I ordered a smaller cut (first mate) And it was cold, even the au jus was barely warm. Also probably the smallest Yorkshire pudding I've ever had there. Maybe 1/3 the size you use to get. We ordered desert and it took newly 30 mins for it to be brought out - my son's "warm" apple krisp was cold he said. i have been smugglers at least A dozen times in the last 3 years and more so in the last decade and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. In both service and quality. As it stands I would not recommend - where as before I always raved about the smugglers inn. For a $400+ bill for myself and my 3 kids, I def expected way better quality, actual warm food and not have to wait a combined time of over an hour for service. It was also my son's birthday, and he found the experience very disappointing and said he never wants to go back. When we booked we said it was a birthday, we mentioned it was his birthday and the server didnt even say happy birthday to him. Oh and it wasn't even that busy when we got there... there was maybe 10 costumers when we arrived. I might try it again due to past visits being great. But another experience like tonight and I'll probably take my prime rib expeditions else where. I doubt my kids will ever go back as the complained how horrible it was the entire drive home. I usually don't give a lot of reviews but it was such a sub-par experience I had to report it.

The duck & waffles was a confit duck leg, vanilla liege waffles, foie gras gravy with a bistro salad that had a yuzu vanilla vinaigrette. Duck was delicious. I liked the salad, but honestly felt that the vanilla in the vinaigrette would be best removed. However, that's my personal opinion. The waffles were... ok. It was like eating cake and bits of sugar. I mentioned to the server that the waffles had chunks of sugar in them, but she said that they were sugar coated. To be honest, I'm not convinced. there was chunks of white sugar, not a glaze...In the waffle itself. And the batter was very heavy, thick and cake like. Not the best waffles. French toast was great, very filling and delicious. It has a foie gras caramel, maple pecans, maple caramelized apples, whipped cream cheese and back bacon. This can easily be your new favourite. My mimosa was amazing, best mimosa I've honestly ever had. Americano wasn't really anything special, especially for $6. While it was a decent breakfast, I don't think I would order waffles again from here unless they change their recipe. I was also a little disappointed they didn't have more than 2 flavours of latte.
