Believe the five stars. We'd been a fan of the chef through pop ups, so our expectations were high. I held a small dinner party at Nighthawks and Josh, the chef, and his capable, hardworking staff couldn't have been more thoughtful, quick or accommodating. We tried several signature cocktails, all of which were creative. The wine list was small but sophisticated and edgy. The beer offerings showcased some of the finest local crafts. The food blew us away. The care and beauty of each dish was utterly perfect. The summer succotash arriving in bright tan and magenta took our breaths away. The German potato salad was so good the table ordered two additional servings after tasting it. The perfect pickled eggs which garnished it showed such attention to detail with the tiniest sprinkling of grey? salt and a tiny spring of dill. I could have eaten a few of those as a meal. The burgers were also perfect. I mean "perfect." Clearly excellent beef, on a fluffy roll and signature sauce. People were moaning with every bite they were so flavorful. General facts: This place does serves alcohol. When I went they had the following on tap: two roads, sloop, downeast, allagash white, common roots, and one other one (I believe it was narragansett). They also have a bar area to sit at. They have a menu that is the same every day. This include their hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and fries. You are also alive to add things like an egg on your burger. They also have a dinner menu that changes every week. This is the menu that is written on the board. I was told they start serving the dinner at 5 Wednesday through Sunday. My experience: They food was super fresh and the burger was really good. The wait staff was friendly enough but it was definitely on the slow side. I ended up paying with cash and left a higher tip than I intended because I didn't have time to wait for her to bring me change. Overall it is worth the visit because the food is really good, but make sure you have some time on your hands. read more

Every time I come here, I get the same order; and for good reason. This place legitimately has the best burger in Troy. It's not like most burger joints, where there's like a hundred different types of burgers. They just have one, and it's fantastic. Sure you can choose different toppings, but ultimately what matters is that you will receive a quality burger. I have not had anything else on their menu yet. I'm sure they're all just as well prepared, but I only ever stop by to get a burger; and I haven't been disappointed yet. Oh and I guess their fries are really good too. read more

Decent recent but a bit pricy for what it is. Got the veggie burger and fries. For $9 the veggie burger left a bit to be desired but it was only their second week of being open. Wow! Just stopped in because I heard about this place thru the grapevine. Totally impressed. Rustic decor, friendly staff and amazing food!!! Menu changes weekly, per Ryan the bartender. Wednesday the menu comes out and they serve those selections thru Sunday. I decided to try the salad, which was delicious. Mixed greens w/ a vinaigrette, pumpkin seeds, fermented radishes and shishitos. Then on to Montreal smoked brisket on sourdough w/ dijon, pickles and a caraway yogurt which was AMAZING!!! HOLY GUACAMOLE BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER TASTED. My boyfriend and I dropped in last night because this place was on our list of Tapas/Gastropubs to try. We didn't realize the only option was a burger, but we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Waitstaff was super friendly, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and the burger was honestly the best thing I have ever tasted. And I am not a huge burger person. It was dripping with delicious juicy meat and melted cheese, we added bacon. They didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked in the first place, but honestly it didn't matter the thing was SO. DAMN. GOOD. We got one burger and split it between the two of us cause we had a couple places to check off our list, but hell if we aren't going back for our own burgers ASAP! read more

I hope people use this review as a lesson learned. The order of mussels.....comes in a can. I ( like most people) was expecting steamed mussels in a tasty broth served with bread. Instead it was a can of mussels with pickled veggies. It wasn't bad just realllyyyyyy not what I pictured in my mind. But the cocktails were good and the burgers looked good. As your typical NYC A-Hole I tend to break out in hives when I need to find a place to eat outside of the five boroughs. Thank the food gods for Nighthawks because it is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. The place has the vibe of your favorite dive bar where you can be your authentic self whether it's old sweats or a ball gown. The beverages-from cocktails to wine-could knock the socks of your biggest booze snob ten times over. The team working there is so welcoming that I'm kicking myself as I type since I forgot to buy them a a round (and which you should too). Then there is the food. And OH MY GOD. The good in creativity, taste, and presentation rivals many of the starred restaurants I've been to. If I lived here, you'd find me here as much as possible. Nighthawks is a busy corner restaurant in Troy near RPI. The food is locally sourced and the staff are friendly and amazing at their jobs, quite attentive and happy to answer questions about the menu. I've yet to have a bad experience dining here. The food is prepared to perfection! I've had chicken feet, shishito peppers, burgers, and I am currently here for brunch, waiting on a biscuit. I lived in NYC my entire life and grew up eating in different restaurants. I am so happy to have found this restaurant/bar. I stopped here for a late lunch and it didn't disappoint. I had a cheeseburger with bacon and fries. The cook on the burger was just right. I love my meat to always be a medium rare and always hope it's cook correctly and was excited to see it was cook to my liking. The cheese was delicious and although I am not sure what type it was made the burger taste so good. The fries were crispy and they were season correctly. They had a dinner menu that looks promising and now I have to return to try their dinner menu. Overall great experience. I enjoyed my meal and definitely recommend. read more

What a waste of time!!! 4 of us arrived yesterday and was told a 30min wait. The host took my number that said she will call me and had me wait in the car. After 20min, I went in to check, she said not to worry, they have my number. After 40min still no calls. After one hour, I looked over the restaurant window, they had new customers that filled the seats. Is this a racist thing or just bad customer service??? Nighthawks is a tried-and-true. A friend and I always come here after the Sunday Albany Symphony Orchestra concerts and treat ourselves. The atmosphere is indie, rustic and cozy. Their burger and beer special on Wed/Thurs is amazing, just the right amount of everything. Brunch is hit or miss. Ordered a meal with poached eggs got two hard boiled ones, the waitrons were so busy that I couldn't flag one down to have the kitchen correct the problem. I'm sorry but I can't give this place more than 3 stars. We were seated and waited almost 15 minutes for our waitress who eventually came over apologizing that she didn't know we were her table. Secondly, the air quality of this restaurant is atrocious - it is an open air kitchen which would be fine- but the air vents were clearly not working properly or the cooks were on a roll burning things that evening. Finally, the food choices were unbelievably limited. The menu online had way more extensive options so it was extremely disappointing when our waitress informed us that "Wednesday is only burger day".
