First meal in Lisboa was an absolute success. Nicolau's is right next to one of Lisbon's hostels. Which explains the amount of tourist who frequent (for good reason). Nicolau should be on your list for brunch in Portugal, there's a little bit of everything to choose from here, and their food quality is stellar. I would advise to give yourself enough time to visit as there may be a wait time. My favorite from their menu probably has to be their French toast, and their orange juice is delicious as well. Thing neighborhood coffee shop with a few quaint tables, professional but warm and multi-lingual service. I opted for a breakfast sammich and a latte. Both came out well prepared and well portioned. Warm local artisan bread with eggs, Spanish ham, cheese and avocado. The latte hot the spot after a long flight and was reasonably priced at $1.8 EUR. Very welcomed healthy option after eating nothing but bread the past week! Got the tuna salad with black rice, mango sauce, avocado etc. and it was very good! What my body needed. My friend got the chicken bowl with the poached egg, sweet potato, rice and broccoli. I also got an aperol spritz and she got the nicolau cocktail (which was definitely more of a smoothie texture but really good flavor). If you're hovering near Praça do Comércio, then you are a few short steps away from Nicolau, where you can rest and replenish your body with fuel and food. We are breakfast/brunch people and are always seeking out fun and unique places to try, especially when we travel. Nicolau Lisboa was one of several places on our list while we were in Lisbon. Two of us came on a Saturday and the line was so long we went elsewhere (to a place I won't be writing a review about, nor recommending to others). Sunday was a solo exploration day and I was completely at my leisure so didn't mind the 40ish min wait for a table. What struck me during that wait was how well coordinated all the staff seemed to be. It was PACKED inside and out, there appeared to be 4 servers working together to service all guests, plus one barista whipping out sooooo many beverages, and an expo who also ran the occasional order. Every server helped man every station, from bussing tables, taking orders, cashing out, running food, mopping the floor (it was raining a bit), and answering any random question or guest request, all with patience, kindness, and often a genuine smile. It was truly incredible to watch...like a perfectly choreographed dance in what otherwise looked like pure insanity. Organized chaos in the best possible way. The food - delicious and served surprisingly fast for how busy they were. I'm Celiac, and while they didn't have GF bread (one thing that would have made this a 10 instead of a 9.5 for me), it was very easy to modify their existing menu to meet my needs. I ordered the Eggs Florentine benedict, minus the bread, added avocado, bacon, and a couple slices of cheese, and it was filling, delish, and beautifully presented. I also ordered a wake up shot, Nicolau's Cocktail, and a cappuccino, all great and worth trying. Service was wonderful...attentive, but relaxed and not overbearing. I ordered a second round of drinks and that process took a bit more time, as the barista was slammed with orders, but never once did I feel like I was being rushed or ignored. We had some great dining experiences during our travels, but from the food to the service to the lively atmosphere, Nicolau's Lisboa ranked as one of my favorites! A+, highly recommend! read more

The menu has various options ranging from sweet to savory and both locations have outdoor seating. Please note in Porto, they ask for you to check in an put your name on a list whereas in Lisbon you just wait on line. Everyone looked very happy with their food and I know we were thrilled with ours. The space is also very warm and inviting. It was a pleasure eating there and the staff was great! Nicolau has a pretty robust menu of your usual brunch favorites, but also some unique ones. I ordered the French toast which came with a side of fresh fruit and Greek yogurt - super yummy! I loved how fresh the fruit was. I'm used to extremely over-sweetened French toast, so I was really happy to find out that Nicolau doesn't douse their French toast in sugar :) What was most surprising was the prices - this place is incredibly affordable and each entree is portioned fairly well. We were in Lisbon for 4 days and Nicolau offered a nice break from cheese and ham toasties for breakfast. The place is adorable, with turquoise tiles and pastel details. It's quite different from the more traditional cafes and looks like it could belong in New York City. In fact, most of the restaurant goers were tourists. We had the avocado toast, a chai tea latte, yogurt bowl and a smoothie. Everything was delicious. Although, I will agree with one of the other reviewers that the avocado toast could benefit from some additional flavor. My boyfriend and I both commented that the chai tea latte was one of the best we'd ever had. The prices were pretty unbeatable as well.
