Under normal circumstances, I'd rate this place a 4 however at the time of this review, the restaurant is rated an overall 3.5 which is very unfair. We almost didn't try it. Glad we did. Good chips. Decent salsa. Had a three meat nacho platter that was really good. The chicken and beef were well seasoned but a bit overcooked. The shrimp were great! Real cheese melted all over and comes with sour cream and guacamole. The margaritas are decently strong and an odd green color. Bathroom was clean enough. I have been here three times now. Three separate entrees and apps, all of them were spectacular. My favorite to date is starting off with some guacamole, and mixing it with a bit of the house salsa. I order the Nicky's margarita. Which is their top shelf deal. Carnitas is my entree. It is one of the best that i have had. The red sauce is amazing. It should just be called Nicky's because this is NOT Mexican food. We all know Louisiana is not known for Mexican food and Nicky's is one of the reasons why! This was just an overpriced Taco Bell. The waitress was extremely nice and thats about all I can say good about the place. The little Hispanic lady that kept bugging me to take my plate should be in the kitchen cooking and MAYBE the quality of the food might get better. read more

Do not walk, RUN FAR AWAY from this restaurant!!! I only have it 1 star because it requires you to put something! First off we were a party of 11, we sat down and it took over 10 minutes for anyone to bring chips and salsa or take our drink orders. Then our waiter stood at one end of the table and was SNAPPING her fingers at people who didn't see that she was standing at one end trying to get drink orders. Then she only brought half our drinks and tried to start taking orders. When we told her we weren't ready she rolled her eyes and stormed off, after asking her 3 times to bring the rest of the drinks she finally did, again standing at one end of the table and having us pass out the drinks instead of doing her job. She then asked AGAIN if we were ready to order half said yes and half said no, she started taking orders and when she would get to someone who didn't know what they wanted, she would get mad that they didn't know what they wanted yet. Fast forward to us getting our food, half of us sent our food back because it had no flavor or tasted old! Once we got our tickets and told her we were not paying for the food that we did not eat because it was disgusting, the waitress threw the receipt back at us and said take care of that in the front. So I proceeded to get it taken care of in the front while the waitress's stood at the drink machine staring at me and bad mouthing us. So I was asked by a girl what I could be helped with I told her and she threw the receipt on the counter and said I don't know nothing about that so I asked for the manager, and let's just say the manager must be the mother of our waitress because she had the exact same bad attitude our waitress had! Do not waste your time or your money on this place, it is absolute trash! Taco Bell has more flavor than this places food does! read more

Probably the most subtastic Mexican restaurant I've been to in a while. While their menu was fairly extensive, the prices seemed to be about 15% higher than what I'm used to for this type of restaurant. That would be ok if the food was better than average. First, I wasn't impressed with their salsa. It was very soupy with very little spice. I overlooked it because I was excited to try the Chorizo tacos. First, there was only one single corn tortilla on each taco. Typically, there are two. The Chorizo was very greasy and it soaked through the tortilla. There was no onion or cilantro, again is what I was expecting. I have definitely had much better than this place. I left unimpressed and disappointed. We stopped here as we were traveling home from Texas. We got off the interstate in hopes of finding something that wasn't fast food. When we saw the sign for Nicky's, we figured we'd give it a try. We were pleased with our choice! My older son got the happy plate with three meats and enjoyed it. My husband got the combination plate. He said the tamale wasn't outstanding, but the rest was quite tasty. My younger son and I got the quesadilla al carbon, his with chicken, mine with steak. Delicious! The tortilla was crispy, the meat well seasoned, and a half order is plenty unless you have a huge appetite. Also, we got a large queso to start - it was a HUGE bowl of queso. We were quite pleased with our meal. A bit more expensive than fast food, but a whole lot better. We'll stop in again when we're traveling! read more

I was nervous to try a Mexican place called Nicky's but it was ok. The staff was friendly and kind of fast. The inside needs an updating, it looks really old and the lighting is SO dark, the pics I took barely came out... We ordered the White Cheese Dip and Salsa. The large order was $7.50! It was pretty good though, but not the usual White Cheese Dip from authentic Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Sour Cream Enchiladas with Beans and Rice. The Enchiladas were ok. Nothing special. But the beans were awful! The Husband ordered Happy Plate. Steak or Chicken over Rice topped with White Cheese Dip. He chose Steak and said it was just ok. My son ordered two Taco's and Rice. He said they were great. They didn't look like traditional Mexican Taco's, more like the kind you make at home. I posted pics of our meal, check them out! Pretty good for being in a small town. The service was quick. I appreciated that they placed 2 carafes of salsa on the table with a few dishes so we could each get our own salsa. The toppings on the nachos were very generous, and the shredded beef flautas were excellent. The chicken on the chef salad was a little dry, but the seasoning good. read more

We checked this place out online as it was near our hotel. Website said 2 for 1 margaritas, and it was taco Tues. Sounds like a win win. Servers were friendly, and made a great recommendation for the food. Got the taco special, but unfortunately they weren't doing the 2 for 1 margaritas. Had a very pleasant experience. I went to a camp today in Louisiana. Last night we stayed at less than quality hotel, and then this morning we ate at an okay breakfast spot. In between sessions, we needed food and a place where we could eat it in the restaurant in less than 35 minutes. My dad thought this little restaurant would be a good idea so we went because I REALLY LIKE MEXICAN FOOD and so does my teammate. We got inside and it was not crowded at all which was great, but after the experience VERY surprising. We got seated and got our drinks in less than four minutes. Then we were able to order and have food out in about ten minutes. While waiting for food we had chips and salsa. The two servers were very polite and VERY good at their job. They kept coming back every few minutes checking on us and it was nice. The food was INCREDIBLE. We were able to pay when we got the food and ate it in ten minutes. We had lots of extra time so we were no longer in a rush to get back. I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded! I was more than happy with everything and I am so grateful for that extra pep in my step the rest of the day! read more

We stopped in here for an early supper on a Monday evening. Most of the tables were open so we were seated right away. I ordered the Crunchy Puffy Beef Tacos. I did not like the concession stand nacho-like cheese sauce they put on the tacos nor the sweetened mayo they served as a "sauce". The way the tacos are designed, there is no way to pick them up and eat them with your hands. You must crush them with a fork into bite-size pieces, and at that point, it feels more like you are eating nachos instead of tacos. Since the service was excellent, I might would stop in here again, but order something completely different. read more

Recently visited this restaurant during a trip to Alexandria for the Police Academy Graduation. Did NOT enjoy myself due to two people in my party having bugs in their food. One member of my party was a vegetarian and ordered a vegetarian dish....and it came with little bits of meat on it. Really? Nicky's has very good food and we eat here often plus do takeout often. The house salad dressing is very good on the chef salad and taco salad. They put a ton of meat on both of these salads. I know what you're thinking, salad? Yes! It's delicious. The tamales and enchiladas are good as well as the carnitas. I'm not a fan of the house margaritas. It taste like they use a mix. I love their guacamole! Tip: If you order food to go, be sure to check to make sure you have everything. We almost always are missing something...tortillas, salad dressing, you name it. read more

This place is nasty. I've been twice. First time was horrible 4 years ago. Said I'd never go back. A friend told me it was under new ownership so we thought we'd try it again. Apparently still the same cook. To start, the complimentary chips were slightly stale and the salsa was bland and runny. I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga and my wife had the chicken taco salad. Chimichanga came with melted velveeta cheese, the beef was only seasoned with salt, the rice was undercooked. My wife chicken tasted like it was out of a can and completely unseasoned. We will never eat there again. I can't understand how it stays so busy. I almost gave this place no stars but the crawfish enchilada was good. The waitress left us sitting at our table for way too long before taking our order. We order a bowl of white quest and a bowl of yellow quest. The yellow tasted like the canned cheese they put on nachos at ball games. Another waitress brought our food and spilt my beans, looked at the mess and walked away. The rice wasn't cooked all the way. It was still crunchy. The fried ice cream was made with corn flakes which wasn't good. We asked for our tickets and a box and it took 15 minutes for her to come back with the tickets. I ask two more times for the box and never did get it. So I left without my other enchilada. read more
