I give this place a 2nd and 3rd chance every couple of years. Sadly, it let us down again. This time, our order was wrong. Shrimp instead of ground beef in the Taco salad, and my shrimp salad had tomatoes when I specifically asked for NO tomatoes. The server never once apologized for bringing us the messed-up order and then never checked on us after the order was corrected, by another server I should add. Also, I do not care for their chips. I keep saying I won't go back again, but we will probably check it out once more in another couple of years! read more

This had to be the worst lunch I have eaten in Natchitoches! Was there about 11:30a for lunch. The food when it arrived was cold and tasted old. The waitress literally rolled her eyes as she picked up my uneaten plate. She did not ask nor care. I will personally never eat at this place again. Actually got banned from this place for the owner's negligence. My son, sister and brother in law all got food poisoning from this place. They immediately started turning pale and sweating, then heading to the bathroom to vomit. When I brought the issue to the owner's attention, he told his waiter to call the police. What a way to treat paying customers who ended up with food poisoning from your establishment. Had to miss a day's work to bring my son to the urgent care and surprise food poisoning was his diagnosis. I was the only one to eat and not get sick because I didn't eat the rancid sour cream. Turned all the info and medical information over to the health department and I see they are still open. I will never in my life consume their food. They made my brother in law pay for food that wasn't even touched after getting them all sick. read more

I refuse to eat at this place ever again!! I will not have the wait staff being so disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional. I posted the following explanation to Facebook and will share it here: I will never ever eat at El Nopal in Natchitoches again. Scrawny lil mexi boy was my waiter yesterday. Time to order and I wanted tomatoes and sour cream added to my tacos. He said no......TWICE!! Then I told him to hold on a minute while I found my pre-chosen 2nd choice on the rather lengthy menu. He walks off and stays gone....and gone.....and......gone! We finally ask for our ticket for the drinks, chips, and salsa that WE DIDNT EAT so we can go eat somewhere else. The little turd finally brings the bill, I take it from him and we go pay. My daughter just happens to look back at our table and sees HIM LAUGHING about the situation. She starts in on him. I have to grab her before she goes back over there. It was ALL about the ATTITUDE!! ANYWAY.......I wish everyone reading this would not eat at El Nopal in Natchitoches. I used to love El Nopal. Never again! I went in November 2008 and there was a roach in my friend's drink. At least the staff gave us our meal for free, but it was an awful experience. GROSS. Never again. read more

On a Thursday afternoon, around 1:30, definitely not peak hours, my husband and I decided to go here. The staff we met included a middle aged female and male. Both acted as if they were upset that we would even think to enter their establishment. We wrote this off as they were just unhappy working or they had been busy during lunch and may be tired. We got our drinks and chips fast. It was almost 15 minutes later when our waiter returned to take our food order and by that time we were fed up with the service and asked for our check for the chips seeing as we both ordered water. The waiter literally huffed, did not say a word and just walked off. Extremely rude. After waiting for another five minutes for him to return with our check, we decided to stand by the check out counter to attempt to lure any employee there. Finally the initial waitress attempted to seat us, to which we replied that we would like to check out and pay for our chips. She literally huffed!! Without saying a word she walked away too. We just walked out. They were so very rude and disrespectful, as my husband and I would never intentionally be rude to waitstaff but I tell ya, these two definitely brought a horrible name to waitstaff. I will absolutely give this place a seething review and tell anyone who asks to eat at absolutely any other restaurant in town before this place. It was an absolutely disgrace. read more

This has changed owners & is now very good. The staff is friendly & the food delivery is not long. The chips are crispy and I like the salsa (I know that's a personal choice.) I always have the fajitas, they never disappoint. I've never had dessert or drinks there so I can't address those. read more

Delightfully quaint restaurant with good food and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely worth a try. Two of us ordered and shared for a good variety and everything was well-prepared and fresh. I'll be back, for sure. read more

The atmosphere is great, it is very colorful and very fun. I ordered a chimichanga and was amazed at how fast it came. It came so fast that it felt more like I had ordered at a fast food restaurant. But it did taste much better than that. The chimichanga was actually a bit small though and I was disappointed that it wasnt' served with guacamole, but it was ok. Not one of the best I have had, but in no way bad. The beans and rice that were served with it were the standard fare. The salsa was great, the chips were not fresh though. The service was very good, he took our order promptly and checked on us enough, but not too much. It was a good lunch, but in fairness there is better Mexican food in Natchitoches. read more

I really used to enjoy lunches here but this place has really gone downhill in the past couple of years. I made the mistake of ordering a mega meal with tamale, enchilada, Chile rellano, taco, tostada, rice and beans. It was priced right but was basically slop consisting of yucky refried beans (I love fijoles, just not theirs), hamburger meat, and cheese - like sauce. The big disappointment was with the rellano. It's my contention that you can judge a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant by their treatment of the poblano. In this case, my favorite dish almost made me sick to my stomach. Lucky I ate before going to the bathroom and catching a glimpse at a dishwasher bussing slop from eaten plates into buckets. I almost gave the restaurant the meal back at the sight. read more

El nopal is delicious and made my food in a great amount of time. Their queso and chimichangas are delicious and the prices are great! I also ordered a margarita and it was delicious! Definitely have returned again and i love it! read more

Save yourself some time and money and do not go to this place. Cheese was runny and then hard in the middle. Food was not seasoned at all, shrimp wasn't cooked, and drinks were flat. Horrible place. Go to El Patio right down the road if you want Mexican. read more

I've been here three times. The first visit was in the afternoon, but not lunch hour. I was impressed with the queso, a white queso as is the cheese served on their menu items. The service was good enough and the food was not memorable but not bad. The second time was late evening and I did try the margarita. Not memorable, again, and the food was OK. Today I went for a business lunch. Once again food OK. Queso great. Service really not up to par, but not bad enough to keep me from going back. I just say the shrimp nachos one of my coworkers had looked amazing as did the steak in the fajita taco salad. I would try either of those dishes and give the margarita one more chance. The servers are slow and very inconsistent, not to mention my order always comes out wrong especially when it come to my margarita simply being frozen or on the rocks. Standard tex mex here, below average in almost every category.Drinks are poorly mixed and even top shelf options seem to rank of rot gut. But if pressed for options in a area very limited, try the fajita nachos, a flavorful cheese explosion of greasy goodness. read more
