As we drove up, it looked like any old strip mall joint and we weren't very excited about it from the outside. However that all changed when we walked through the door... It was a surprisingly nice decor and atmosphere. It didn't stop there, the food was great, the service was outstanding, the staff was friendly and the spot was extremely family friendly. We have an 18 month old and they looked after all of his needs and made sure he was taken care of as well as the rest of us. I've gotta give Nick's props! Excellent traditional Italian food done right. Picked up some to go from them today and everything was really good! And still hot after a 20 min trip home. As usual I bought too much food for one but I was craving a few things and now I have leftovers cause the portions are very generous. I got Veal Parm that was nice and tender! None of that BS veal you get at some Restaurants that isn't tender at all and tough to bite into. That came with a side of spaghetti & marinara that was good. And the Gnocchi was delicious as well! Light & fluffy like Gnocchi should be and the marinara they use is excellent, not overthought and done just the way traditional marinara should be. I did get a side Caesar salad that I enjoyed as well! Came with some very good bread too. I look forward to dining in soon & trying a lot of other stuff that sounds great on the large menu of theirs! Love this place. The food is always made to order and fresh ingredients. A little Italian gem that is must to visit. Been here multiple times between this location and Frank Lloyd Wright one. What a find! I happened to come upon this place after a day of shopping. The food is amazing and very fresh. We had the osso bucco with the risotto-amazing! We also split an gnocchi with the pink sauce, which was equally amazing. I can't wait to tell my friends about this place. There's something for everyone and the service was amazing. With so many Italian restaurants competing with each other around north Scottsdale, you'd think each one would be trying pretty hard to get your business. This place wasn't. The food and service started out OK. The bread was good. The grilled vegetable salad was pretty good, although the zucchini could have been cooked a little more. Then the meal went downhill. First, we lost our waiter to his girlfriend and her family that came in to eat at the next table. Then our food came. My calzone was composed mostly of tasteless cheese and hardly any of the spinach, mushrooms or artichoke hearts that I added on at $1 a piece! It was bland. The side of marinara sauce was also, as was my husband's Pizza Salsa Cruda. The toppings were pretty scarce there too. I wasn't looking for a super authentic-wow-my-socks-off Italian restaurant. I was just looking for a casual sit-down close to home, not expecting too much more than Olive Garden; but this place was a total waste of money and time. read more

If you're going to have uber eats running while your busy than do the orders not make the driver wait 28 minutes for the food that's unacceptable especially when we don't get paid to wait! We have eaten here several times and the food was always good. However, my last two meals have been inedible. A few weeks ago, I got a pizza - which used to be really good. However this time the cheese was awful, mealy and grainy. I ordered half plain and half with mushroom and onion. The toppings were haphazardly strewn about the pizza so the plain side had some of the toppings on it. The whole pie was poorly made and gross. I ate one piece and threw the rest away. Last night I ordered gnocchi with pink sauce. The sauce was good (as usual) but the gnocchi were overcooked to the point of being inedible. They were just mush and again, inedible and gross. For dinner I ate bread and the pink sauce. I like going to Nick's, I hope they pay attention to this and go back to the previous level of quality. Otherwise, I'm not wasting any more money to throw food in the trash can. read more

I stopped in for an impromptu dinner with the wife last week. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and overall vibe of the restaurant. It was a weeknight and the store was packed. Our server was very friendly and made some great recommendations since we were new to Nick's. We each ordered a pasta dish, one Carbonara, and one Pesto. I also added a side of meatballs for the table. The dishes were great, and our service was outstanding. There are a lot of Italian restaurants in my area but Nick's offers a great value. Had a party of 4, got to nicks at about 7p on a Saturday. Since they don't take reservations, we knew there would be some type of a wait. A quick quote of 45 mins, we headed the bar. Good top self, good beer, good wine. I had a martini - expertly made, right water dilution. Our table was called about 15mjns later. Menu was filled with typical Italian favorites. I chose chicken Marsala, others at the table chose minestrone soup, bruschetta, linguini with puntenesca. Yumm! Great service, reasonable prices, good atmosphere. I'd go again. read more

I love their Marsala Sauce..until tonight. The veal Marsala and chicken Marsala were terrible. The sauce didn't gave a hint of wine, was greasy, and bland. We used a Groupon about a month ago and both my wife and I did not feel well after getting home. My chicken piccata which I have eaten there almost every time was extremely salty. Decided to give it another try tonight with another Groupon and unfortunately was not disappointed - the food was not very good. My chicken parmesan tasted and looked like the same quality you could have gotten at Denny's. A mainstay in the restaurant rotation while in Scottsdale, Nicks came through once again with a delicious meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, even putting up with some less than stellar attempts at humor (and my mother). If you've ever eaten with a person that alters every nuance of a dish, then you've eaten with my mother. The calamari was divine; golden crispness yielding to the savory yet rubbery substance that is octopus. Amongst our dishes we had spaghetti bolognese with meatballs, some kind of healthy penne spinach dish and a margarita pizza. The only complaint we would have is that the wedge salad was served with enough dressing to satisfy the needs of a small town, but it was still good. The best measurement of an Italian restaurant is the quality of their meatballs, and these balls didn't disappoint. Well shaped and covered in sauce, these spheres of compact bovine and swine were beyond reproach. Pizza was on point and the healthy dish was fantastique! read more

We have been living in the neighborhood and always saw this restaurant, since they were at Grayhawk, but we never tried them. Well let me tell you .... We have been missing out BIG TIME! This is a great restaurant, we were seated right away, service was friendly and prompt. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be working there. Good was OUTSTANDING.
