This place is awesome! I'm a Humboldt Park native and it's so refreshing to have a real burger joint like this in the neighborhood. The food is GREAT! Fresh, non-greasy, and delicious! You actually won't feel guilty about eating a burger and fries or a gyro b/c the food isn't the least bit oily!!!! The service is impeccable!!! The owner and the cooks go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and the best part is they take the time to remember you! Whenever hubby and I go, whether together or on our own, we're treated like royalty, and that's something that just doesn't happen anymore. I've told my entire family about Nick's and we've all been blown away by the food and service. When people show you that they're grateful for your service, it makes you feel appreciated and you just have to go back. That and the food keeps me a loyal customer! The lads and I from work usually eat take out from here about once a week. We usually get the gyros, greek salad with chicken, or the cheeseburgers. For a gyros stand, this place isn't too greasy (unless you get the gyros cheese fries). Humboldt Park doesn't have many great lunch options, but this one definitely doesn't disappoint. read more

Yummy yummy! Ordered 2 gyros and cheese fries and was 95.5% satisfied with what we ordered. The remaining 4.5%? Largely accredited to the fact that it's already gone and also that I wish the meat was a big crispier. Their prices are beyond fair. The food is fresh (ya know, for burgers and gyros and fries and such). The actual restaurant is very clean and the staff is super friendly. I will definitely be returning. Basically everything is fried or cooked on a flat top grill. They make a pretty decent Chicago style hotdog. I liked their chicken sandwich, their fries are good but I would recommend asking for them extra crispy. My bf tried one of their burgers and liked it but said the meat had almost no flavor. Overall it's a decent place if you are looking for drunk hangover food or something greasy before a night out of drinking. Someone ordered their chicken tenders and they looked really good, I'll probably try those next time I come in. They do have lots of specials which is nice, but they are a solid 4* stop that I am glad is in the neighborhood. read more

Perfect and delicious burger joint in the heart of Humboldt Park! This is my go to place from light Greek salad to your classic Italian beef also very good chicken pita!. From the minute the guy behind the counter asks you, "What you hungry for BOSS?" the Nick's experience starts. Everything is clean, prepared fresh, and there's a real pride to their cooking grub. Their chicken strips are the bomb, burgers have a nice taste to them from their seasoned grill, and their specials are amazing! They had these pork chops, rice, garlic bread, and drink for 6.99 once. I'm actually going back here today for a NICK BURGER which is a double bacon cheese burger with gyros. Stupid right? Yeah cause I'm stupid like that. Staff was very nice and thoroughly confirmed all items that were ordered. Beef sandwich and double cheeseburger were great. Everything you expect them to be. The fries were thick crinkle cut and were some of the best I've had in recent memory. The only thing I regret was not getting cheese for the fries. This is the kind of place you could order anything and it would be good. You can tell they care about every order that comes out. Love nicks on north, my boyfriend and I ordered take out from there and we got our food in ten minutes! The staff was extremely friendly and speedy. We ordered chicken pita, mozzarella sticks, Italian beef with hot peppers, and a chocolate milkshake. All of this VERY filling food only cost $24.00! I was surprised by how great the food tasted. When I first walked in and saw the place I was nervous that the reviews were wrong, but the reviews are never wrong!! The food was amazing! The chicken was seasoned perfectly and very juicy. The mozzarella sticks tasted homemade, pretty good. The Italian beef was tender with the right amount of giardiniera. It's so sad this used to be a great place. Whoever owns or runs Nick's now, is running it into the ground. I placed an order over the phone, which they messed up upon pick up. They said to give them 10 min and it wasn't ready until 25 later. They didn't send Tzatziki Sauce for my gyro. Dinners don't come with drinks, yet meals are $1 more. We will not be back. read more

I live right around the corner from this place, so I eat here about once a week. Totally solid burgers and fries. I always get the onion rings as well. The grilled chicken sandwich is awesome too, especially if you add bacon. Nick is always extremely friendly, as is his staff. They all recognize me as a regular. Just because they don't have a tip cup, don't be afraid to tip them. Even if you tip them with a beer outta your 12-pack! read more

This is definitely a good restaurant, and I would say that it is like Portillo's because they both have various comfort foods that are both really delicious. I've been regularly going here for the past few months, and I've noticed a lot of things about this restaurant. The whole place is always clean and bright. The ambiance is definitely just something comfy and casual. What I like about this place is the fact that they have great customer service. The staff here are really polite and friendly and will gladly help with anything I could ask for. The food is also served fast, and not only fast because the food is also served fresh and hot. The flavors were definitely amazing, and it is exactly the type of food that I would want to order if I was disappointed or something, because it is indeed a comfort food. The food is really nice and somehow huge. The prices are reasonable and definitely just the regular price for every food item they have. Really solid Ma' and Pa' fast food. To be honest the dog and the beef are lacking... as if Nick's hasn't quite figured it out yet. But what Nick's lacks in dog and beef they make up for with customer service and Gyro. Most definitely the best top 1 or 2 Gyro I've ever had. I came here for the 1st time a few weeks ago. Only had the steak sandwich but it was by far the best steak sandwich I've ever had. It was juicy and flavorful and delicious. It took longer than I was told it would, and I did not feel comfortable leaving my Divvy out front momentarily to run inside and grab my food (place is located in a pretty dicey area). What a delight to see a good hot dog joint in Humboldt Park! It is one thing this area has been lacking and I am happy to see they are doing it right. There are a few other options for dogs within a mile or so, but most of those places are filthy, have crap service and unmemorable food. Upon walking in (just to grab a menu) I was greeted with enthusiasm from the cook. If I hadn't just eaten, I would have definitely stayed... so I made sure to go back two days later with my wife to eat. The first thing I will say is that this place is VERY CLEAN! I met and spoke to the owner and found that he is from a family of restauranteurs and businesspeople that own many good places in Chicagoland including the Vas Liquor Store located in the same strip mall as Nick's on North. He actually was going to open the restaurant in the north suburbs, and I am glad he didn't! My wife and I didn't go for a full meal, just to try it out and quench some small hunger pangs between lunch and dinner... so we ordered a hot dog with everything, a chili cheese dog and fries (the owner threw in drinks on the house, with free fountain refills, which was very nice). The food was great! Good Vienna Beef snap on the dogs and everything tasted fresh. Service was very fast and the cooks made sure to ask me exactly what I wanted on my chili cheese dog (rather than just making it with chili and cheese and throwing it in front of me). The owner even brought our food to us at our table and cleared our table when we finished... that is service that I think a lot of other hot dog (or fast food) places ignore, but it is one of the reasons I will be returning... not that I expect that, but it shows that they care. If I had any small complaint it would be that the hot dog buns were not the traditional chicago steamed poppy seed buns and that the hot dog with everything didn't have sport peppers (which when I got home and looked at the menu I took 2 days earlier it said "sport peppers on request", so next time I know :). All in all, we were very happy with the food and both of us have eaten at countless restaurant in the city. When we were eating a customer ordered cheese fries with gyros meat! It isn't on the menu (but I am starting to think it should be without even trying it)... and they made it for her. Again, this is service that other restauranteurs can learn from. Bravo!
