Stopped in around 8 pm on a Monday. Seated quickly by friendly staff. Good beer selection. Ordered the hot brown and a small salad. 40 minutes after being seated, my food was brought out. Lots of cheese melted on the top. Small pieces of tomatoe were sprinkled across the top of it. Overall, ok tasting. Cool atmosphere and will return to try something else read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday night, no reservation. Short wait, and we were seated out on the patio. Ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. Excellent. Good size, great flavor, perfect for two people. My wife ordered the pot roast for her dinner, and I had the fish and chips. The fish and chips was good, with special praise going to the chips (fries). Coleslaw was good, but honestly, it was a tiny portion. Let's talk about the pot roast. First, that may be the best pot roast I have ever tasted. Second, the roasted carrots were perfection. Third, the mac and cheese was very good. My wife said that meal could easily be a "last supper". We both ordered dessert - I had their English toffee cheesecake, which was scrumptious, and my wife tried their "tipsy laird", which she devoured. There was a mix up In the kitchen, and they accidentally brought my wife the wrong dessert initially. They corrected the mistake as soon as they realized it, no extra charge to us. Because of this, we got to try their Seasonal Crumble dessert, which was very good also. Our server was good, and we really liked the vibe of this place. The patio is covered, so we were neither too hot nor too cold. It's a great spot if you're catching a show at the Aronoff, and they switch up their menu a bit on nights when a performance is happening. Would not hesitate to come back here again! read more

On a quest for a hot brown in Cincinnati. Gone for many years is the old faithful Watertower in Mt Airy. And Kennings in Bridgetown, but this place may be the last to have it on the menu. It did not disappoint. Also had the scotch egg and pretzel beer cheese appetizers. These were good portions, excellently presented and delicious. This place gets it right. This place has great service, good energy and good music playing in the background. A great place to bring kids while the adults have a draft or a glass of wine. read more

Service was fast. Food and drinks were delicious with lots of yummy choices! I did think it was interesting their pot roast came with mac n cheese and not potatoes, but I'm not mad about it! Watch out for the slick floors by the kitchen; it's a bit oily on the way the to the bathroom. read more

I had such a great first time here. My friend and I walked in on a busy Friday night and were able to get a table right away due to a canceled reservation. The ambiance was warm, brown, and cozy. Our server's name was Phe Phe - she was remarkable, kind, and took such great care of us. I had a Scotch egg for the first time - so tasty and jammy, I could eat 10 more. I also ordered the Welsh Dip and it was worth every penny and bite. My friend ordered The Bonnie and I was a bit jealous of it. I'm so excited for my next visit! read more

This place was high on the Yelp list after coming recommend by a Cincy native back home. Large traditional Scottish Bar where the bartenders where kilts. I walked in and there was a large crowd with a wait and I was planning to meet my wife's cuz for dinner later. My timing was good because the theater across the street had a show started in a few minutes so the place was about to clear out. I Found a corner bar seat in the meantime. I took a brief look at the beer menu and ordered an Old Speckled Hen which was one of my favorite beers 20 years ago. Right after the cleared out I took a gander at the food menu and ordered a bowl of Kentucky Burgoo. It sounded like a good warm up on a cold night and it came with a baguette. The stew was tasty but the star of the show was that baguette. It was outstanding dipped in the stew. After eating the Burgoo and finish my first beer my wife's cuz showed up so she bellied up to the bar also. She ordered the fish and got a large side of brussel sprouts. I ordered the Shepard's Pie and added a Caesar salad. This is the reason they lost one star. The Shepard's Pie came with what they call an accent salad that is written on the bottom line of the menu item. With a fairly short menu and serving the same fair all the time I would think it should have computed that I didn't see the salad was included and double check to see if someone who had a salad come with their meal really wanted a second salad!! I can't quite comprehend that thought process. Had they brought that to my attention I certainly would not have ordered a second salad especially with a bunch of great sides on the menu. Oh well. I hope my wife's cuz's husband enjoyed his Caesar salad when she got home. Thanks! read more

I haven't eaten here in a very long time and didn't have the best memory of my meal so I was a little uninterested in a dinner here but I was totally proven wrong. The shrimp and grits were AWESOME. I honestly don't even know any spot locally that does a really good shrimp and grits but this was fantastic. Tons leftover too. Great service. They let my family sit and talk and hang out for a while after we finished eating which was really nice of them. Also I stole like 5 huge bites of my brothers Caesar salad and it was so good. I'd get both again. read more

Dining at Nicholson's was quite an enjoyable experience. It was easy to make a reservation online, and service was ok. I ordered the Tavern House Salad without dried cherries, but with chicken and ranch dressing. I'm a sucker for a good salad, but the best part was definitely the house ranch. It was AMAZING. Nicholson's is a solid choice for a nice dinner or pre-performance meal. I'm looking forward to going back! read more

We're just here for a couple adult beverages after two long flights and waking up at 3am on the west coast. The Bartender is sweet, knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is very familiar as it's an Irish pub. When I travel, I always ask where the local Irish pub is because it rarely disappoints... which is also the case here. Very comfortable and relaxing after a long day of travel. Plus it's less than a block from our hotel. Winning all the way around (and yes, we are repeat visitors from last year). Cheers! read more

Had a very good dining experience here last night with a group of eight. In town for work at the convention center. It was 7:00pm on a Thursday night (none of us from Cincinnati) and they were able to seat us right away (which we were thankful for since we had a short window for dinner). The service was excellent (thank you Caleb) and the food was very good. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Loved the dark wood, big chairs, etc. Everyone raved about their food. I had the Chicken Schnitzel. It was very good - the chicken was fried crispy with good flavor. The potato/turnip mash complimented it well and the carrots had a good flavor. My wife had Shepherds Pie- she says it was seasoned well, the lamb was good and the vegetables were done but not mushy. Her favorite part was the gravy and the creamy, fluffy potatoes on top. I hear good reviews on the pot roast, the fish and chips, and one of the burgers. Our lively conversation slowed significantly after the food arrived. A few ordered dessert. The cheesecake and the cobbler were both enjoyed. read more

My husband, two adult daughters) and I went to Nicholson's for dinner before a show later that evening at the Aronoff. We had never been to the restaurant before, and with the location close to the theater, we figured we'd try it. We will be back! The entire staff was friendly, from the greeters and seaters to our server, Fifi. Our service was wonderful--just the right balance of getting us what we needed while leaving us to enjoy the meal and each other's company. We all loved the breadboard. There was something for everyone there: sweet, savory, and even some pickles to enjoy! Each of us had a different meal and enjoyed our orders. My Welsh Dip sandwich on a pretzel bun was fabulous, and the tavern fries were hot, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. And the desserts (we split a bruleed cheesecake and the seasonal berry crumble with vanilla ice cream) were the perfect ending to our meal. We were pleasantly surprised with the value of the meal and I look forward to returning again with my husband for a date night! read more

Came with a group of 5; we had a reservation. They sat the 5 of us at the smallest table they possibly could although the place was, for the most part, empty. Service was slow and 2 out of the 5 at our table got the wrong order. I've heard this place thrives just on location only. Being right across the street from the theatre, it's very easy to grab a meal here before the show. I visit the Aranoff a few times a year; so not much. But there are plenty of places that are close by that will get my business next time around. In our party of 5, only 2 of us had never been here. The 3 that have said service is nothing like it used to be. read more

This is a pretty great spot, that I almost always hit anytime I'm near the Aronoff. It's got that fun pub vibe with the wood decor and Irish beers. Plus, the staff are all wearing kilts which is a cute way to play up the theme. I usually only have drinks and have almost always sat at the bar, but this place is ALWAYS busy. That being said, the staff is pretty attentive and you never have to wait long for drinks. This last visit, we were there during brunch and did wait quite a while for our food, but it was certainly at a peak crowd time. The food is tasty and is of the typical pub quality and this place is a great stop that I'll continue to frequent any time I am in the area. read more

We started with the Brunch Bread Board - great honey butter. The pickles are a bit strange tasting, but my husband liked them. I got the Federalist Small Batch Bourbon Sour. If you like Bourbon - go for it. Great mixture My husband got the steak and eggs and I got the smoked salmon Benedict. He liked his food and also ate his toast. My salmon Benedict was on a thick English muffin. I got the Hollandaise on the side since I was forewarned that I would have otherwise been served a lot on my Salmon Benedict. I was happy I got it on the side. Nice atmosphere. We liked the music - it's was all music we knew. (Not Scottish - or Irish) read more

For the most part good. Shepards pie very good.. in our party someone ordered the pot roast. VERY SALTY. We told the server and we were told that that is the one item that 'they don't make' and have no control of that (being too salty). Very confusing as if they don't make it, who does? And maybe someone could have tasted it before serving. Server didn't seem to care because they don't control that. Yikes. Josh is incredible. He was straightforward about different menu items that we were looking at. He made suggestions that turned out to be absolutely phenomenal. I'm typically picky about sausage and we talked it through, and I am so glad I did. The bangers and mash were outstanding. My husband was looking at the rubin. Josh said you know exactly what your getting but if you'd like to try something new he recommended the pork sandwich, which is what he ended up with. Another phenom choice. We will return when we are in Cincinnati. Glad we blew off the other restaurant we were going to. This truly is a find. read more

First, the location is awesome-literally cattycorner from the stadium and the ambiance is great since the owner is from Ireland, the place really looks like an Irish pub (according to my husband, who has been to Ireland many times.) I love the cozy dining nooks dotted around the restaurant. We expected it to be slammed packed and it was busy, but we were able to get right in. We had the best waitress. She was so friendly and really chatted it up with us and made awesome menu recommendations. The food was so freakin' good! Since it was a gameday, they were only doing a limited menu but there was something on there for everyone. We tried the two wings on offer-BFG & Hot Honey, as well as the Big Bag of Fries. The food came out pretty quickly and was piping hot. OMG. The wings were so good. I literally couldn't pick a favorite flavor. I usually don't like thicker cut fries but the waitress assured me that I would like them and she was right! They were so crispy and the Marie Rose and homemade ranch sauces complimented them perfectly. Be aware that the Big Bag of Fries is just that, big! So definitely shareable. Our sever was very nice, but service was VERY slow for a Sunday night. She told us they were busy the night before because of a conference and they were still in town that day, so the bar inside was busy. After ordering our drinks it took about 15 minutes to get them, and she didn't even take our food order when she came back despite us being ready. We waited, no problem. We ordered a 'Spice Bag' and it was decent but took about 25 minutes to get to us despite being potatoes and onions in a bag. For 40 minutes we waited for our food and when it came out it was terrible. I ordered the Fish and Chips and Caesar Salad to share and both were mediocre at best and inedible at worst. If you come here: DO NOT GET THE FISH AND CHIPS. They were battered nicely, but aside from that the fish didn't feel fully cooked and tasted like nothing, with a hint of dirty water. The tartar sauce seemed homemade, but didn't have any flavour. The coleslaw was boring and watery, with no flavour. Our server never checked up on us during the meal, so I never got the chance to ask for something else, so I was just stuck with the fries it came with. I know what good fish and chips should taste like and it's not that. Others ordered the curry and the wings and seemed to enjoy it, which is nice. However, 30 minutes after placing our order we were told that the kitchen "ran out of rice" and they asked us what we would like to replace it. When the curry came out, it was missing the naan but again, server never came to check on us so we didn't notice until the end of our meal. Overall, it's a cute place that feels Irish, but service is slow and food is terrible. Our server was lovely and it wasn't her fault that she was busy with tables, but management should be doing more when they know there's a conference in town to set their servers up for success.

My wife and I visited Nicholson's during a brief business trip to Cincinnati, and we were thoroughly impressed. We started with the Tavern Wings paired with bourbon mustard sauce--they were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crispy exterior and tender meat. For our second course, my wife ordered the Kentucky Burgoo, a hearty stew featuring chicken, beef, and onions, served alongside a fresh baguette. I opted for the Tavern Salad, which featured spring mix, cranberries, and apples, all complemented by their house-made bee pollen dressing. The main courses were equally satisfying. I enjoyed Nicholson's Fish & Chips--perfectly breaded fish with crispy fries and an exceptional house-made tartar sauce. We finished our meal with the Bourbon Crème Brûlée, topped with fresh berries, which was the perfect sweet ending. The service was attentive and knowledgeable throughout our visit. The decor creates a warm, tavern-style atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming. One standout feature is their impressive whiskey collection--boasting over 100 varieties, it's one of the largest single malt selections we've encountered. Nicholson's delivers excellent food, impressive drink options, and a comfortable dining environment. Highly recommended for both business dinners and casual visits. We will be back, defiantly. read more

Needed a place to eat before attending a performance at the Taft this past Tuesday. Had not been here before and so glad we choose this place for a table of six. First they put us in a back room by ourselves which we appreciated since we were able to freely chat without any disturbance. As we ordered our drinks, our daughter realized she had forgotten the tickets. Our son-in-law would have just enough time to go back home to West Chester and make it back to the Taft but it meant he would miss dinner. After he left, our daughter remembered she had the confirmation of her order on her cell-phone but Taft requires hard paper confirmations. Our daughter asked our server Amanda if there was any way they could print the tickets off her cell phone. Five minutes later it was done, she called her husband and told him to turn around and we would have his dinner on the table when he returned. Amanda helped save the evening. The food was excellent (each person ordered a different entree) and everyone was very satisfied with the entrees. Needless to say the service and server were excellent. Now Nicholson's will be my favorite place to eat in downtown Cincinnati. Steve West Chester read more

Spent a day in Cincinnati to see the Billy Joel concert. After a morning hangover from the night before was eradicated, my friends and I were feeling like making bad decisions. We stopped in for a Bloody Mary expecting bottled mix and vodka: Nothing special but passable. We were shocked when house made mix was pulled out from a cooler. The mix is spicy but flavorful and balanced. It was fantastic! The bloody is served with a 4oz Stella pour to take the heat away. We ordered duck fat fries as well, and they were rich and buttery. Service was friendly as well. The bartender made some recommendations about where to go after the concert. I want their bloody mix recipe! read more

I came here for a work dinner on a Saturday and was greatly impressed by this place…read more For a brewery, you would not expect the food to be as good as it was, but boy it was. I am still dreaming about the pork belly skewers. We had a reservation for our party, so we were seated quickly. The inside of this old church is very sleek, modern, and clean. It is more upscale in feeling than other breweries in the area. We ordered the pork belly skewers, cheese curds, squash croquettes, and jalapeno poppers as appetizers for the table. The pork belly skewers are probably one of the greatest things I have ever eaten, as i said above. The squash croquettes are so different and so good as well. The cheese curds are standard and sure to please a crowd. And lastly, the jalapeno poppers were not for me. They stuff theirs with chicken, not cream cheese, and that flavor combo with the super smokey bacon wrapped around it did nothing for me. If you are more of a carnivore though you would probably love it. I got the chicken marinara sandwich and split a side of the brussels sprouts with a friend. The sandwich was huge! It looked much larger than some of the other plates people got. The marinara had great flavor, the cheese was fresh, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. I was so stuffed from my appetizers that I only ate half the sandwich. The sprouts were also very well done and the cheese/sauce on them was so so good. We ended the meal, even though we were all so full, with their citrus olive oil cake. Now some people find that name off-putting, but let me tell you as someone who loves baking, this cake is one of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. It is so light, with the perfect amount of citrus, and the fresh whipped cream is so delicious. It truly is a perfect dessert and I would go back only for that. Overall we had a great dinner here and left so stuffed that we all went home to lay down. The beer is also good but I would go for the food before anything else. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess, and our equally pleasant server quickly brought menus and asked what we would like to drink. When it was my turn, I happily ordered Coppin's Old Fashioned. I was the odd man out because everyone else ordered the Spring Manhattan. Judging by how quickly everyone's drinks disappeared, I'd say they were all very tasty. I was a little unsure about mine at first, so to make sure the quality and taste were consistent, I ordered a second, and it definitely was not a mistake. I ordered the B+G biscuits (which are made by hand according to server in the hotel) and gravy with an extra egg. Decided to split the Silver Charm for an appetizer, and it came about ten minutes later. The onion rings were decent, good flavor and somewhat crispy. The accompanying sauces of barbecue and ranch were both good as well, though both were missing something to elevate them a bit more I think. The flavor was good, but quite a small portion for $10. My wife ordered the Strike the Gold Burger and I went for the Northern Dancer Crispy Chicken. The sandwiches came out about ten minutes after we finished the Silver Charm, which was perfect timing. She liked her burger pretty well, and I took a bite too. The "caramelized onions" were definitely more sauteed, with still a bit of crunch, and otherwise I could really only taste the barbecue sauce, which was tasty, but I would have liked some more varied flavors. My chicken sandwich was... a bit disappointing. Rather than a chicken piece that appropriately fit the bun, it was more of a chicken strip, with bites that would only yield bun. In addition, because the chicken piece was so small, it was also extremely dry, which is a bummer because I actually thought the breading was very tasty. The chipotle aioli was decent, but didn't pack as much spice or flavor as I was hoping. And with only two toppings and a sauce on the whole sandwich, I was disappointed that the tomato was rather mushy and didn't seem fresh. I will say the fries that came with our sandwiches were crisp and well seasoned, and somewhat unfortunately the best part of my meal. Based on our experience, I didn't hate our dinner here and if someone invited me to meet them here, I wouldn't say no, but I'm also not going out of my way to revisit.
