Explored around here during the Obon Festival with a friend around 5 pm! The place has so much Japanese wear from footwear, yukatas for men and women, and so much more. I was impressed to all the beautiful colors and patterns on their traditional wear. Spacious store that contains so much culture and history! The store was run by some sweet elderly women who gave us a mini history lesson!

I am embarrassed to say that even with multiple visits to the wonderful Japan town of San Jose, I have missed this place! Numerous times! If you approach it from The main strip it looks like it's going to be relatively small but then you walk in and it's like doctor who's Tardis! Much bigger on the inside. That was actually the joke we said as we walked in because that's how it felt. What an amazing collection of Japanese everything. There was art, there was fabric (so much beautiful fabric), There were knick knacks, there were figurines, there were even rubber throwing stars! And the two sweet ladies who worked there, my goodness. What treasures. One of them told us the story of the koi fish which I will make you look up. The other explain to us how the store originated and even gave us some small origami helmets which were so cool. She even offered to show us how to make them but unfortunately we were running out of time at the parking meter lol. But this place was absolutely amazing. I wish we had more time to stay and explore. I've shared some pictures of the amazing things they have inside including the happiest wood carved Buddha that I hope has a new home at this point. Definitely a wonderful store and we will be back.

What a treat to visit this store. Even though it says its a fabric store and kimono shop it offers way more items that are a feast to the eyes. They have various wares for the home, clothing and accesories. They have buddah pads and temari balls (intricate cat ball), japanese slippers, neck pillows, decorative Hagoita paddled and much much more. It is located near Jackson and 4th street next to a vintage style autoshop. I can't believe that this is the first time I've been here and it was surely a treat. The staff are nice and they give away origami which u can use as a book mark to all its costumers. The shop is a staple at Japan town and worth the visit for its history, merch and sunny ambiance.

IMHO This gift store has been around for quite some time in Japantown, but this was my first visit here! I need to walk a little further down Jackson in the future! We were greeted immediately as we entered by Russell who kindly welcomed us and said he was there to answer any questions and to please visit the little museum in the back. My friend and I slowly meandered around checking out the beautiful displays of kimonos, dolls, toys, games, books, fabrics, etc. A lovely lady presented us with small origami folded hats to use as cute bookmarks! We both left with some gifts for ourselves and our family. Yes, I look forward to going back again!

The owner was watering his geranium in front of his store.

Josh asked if I visited the other 2 Gift shops when I asked josh if he's toys other than those on shelves. Can you imagine this kind of peace in a clerk in Japantown? I definitely will return to buy more stuff.

This place reminds me of Kogura but it's actually opened longer. Lots of Japanese wares. Everything is beautiful in here.

With my sister's wedding coming up, we needed to find an obi and accessories for our Obaasan's kimono.

I actually found out about this place in the most random, roundabout way... A friend sent me a package and accidentally left the order confirmation from her Wild Hare purchase inside. Naturally, I did what any curious quilter would do... Looked it up, loved their online vibe, and decided I had to see it in person. Parking was easy in a nearby lot and the store itself is charming with a variety of craft supplies including quilting fabric, needlepoint, watercolor kits, washi tape, and even finished handmade goods available for sale. When I walked in, initially I did not see anyone at the register/desk, so I browsed up front. Eventually, I spotted an employee at the register but they didn't greet me or acknowledge me which was definitely off-putting. Customer service is everything. The fabric selection was nice though I found the online selection more enticing. Everything was of very high quality. I ended up leaving with just a roll of washi tape. Overall, cute store and worth checking out for the variety, but I wish the welcome had matched the charm of the space.

Plenty of cute designs on display, including bunnies of course. There was only one person managing the store, and she kind of just allows customers to explore, not offering assistance, which I'm fine with as I actually prefer to take my time looking around without being bothered. I found some stickers and ribbon in unique patterns and prints for a creative project I'm working on. Service was friendly as she cut the ribbon for me and rang me up. The purchase process was simple and straightforward. Also, street parking was free and easy less than a block away on a Saturday.

FabMo is a wonderful community resource that I wish more people knew about. Run by a cadre of…read moremostly women volunteers, this organization rescues discontinued samples from upscale design showrooms in San Francisco. Housed in a small Sunnyvale warehouse, the organization says that each year, they keep about 70 tons (!) of material from going to the landfill. FabMo hosts regular sales open to the public as well as biannual "free giveaway" events. Customers can find tile, carpet, textile fabrics, wallpaper and more. Many materials are provided for free to teachers and there are also donations from the local community. Quilting fabrics, silk fabrics, jewelry making items, sewing notions, leather, decorations and much, much more are offered for sale in person or online through the FabMo eBay store. The only thing I wish that FabMo would do is to develop a partnership with WomenSV - a non-profit group based in the neighboring town of Los Altos. WomenSV helps women get out of abusive relationships. A little known fact about California family law is that, while the legal process is ongoing, individuals are prohibited from selling or using community property to make money. This allows for a continuation of financial abuse by the more powerful partner as they can delay the legal process indefinitely. In my own case, the divorce has been going on for three years as my ex has blocked me from accessing funds that are legally mine. Thanks to the low and no-cost materials I got from FabMo, I have been able to make and sell small craft items in order to buy groceries and obtain veterinary care for my service dog. As FabMo already hosts regular crafting lessons, I wonder if FabMo could somehow do community outreach to provide materials and teach skills to women trying to leave their abusers. Even people who have already managed to escape could benefit from the amazing work that the FabMo volunteers do. They're so successful at saving materials - - wouldn't it be great they could be a part of saving lives. Thanks, FabMo!

Old school fabrics store for your quilting needs, operated by knowledgeable and friendly staff…read more The Granary Quilt Shop is certainly a rarity to see nowadays when online shopping has been the norm, but this mom and pop shop is still thriving in a well ventured shopping center sharing space with other small businesses serving the local community. The parking situation is great as the parking lot is rarely packed and has large spots for those with bigger vehicles. As you walk up to the storefront, you'll see through the clear glass windows a plethora of colors and patterns with some sample quilts hanging out for display. Step foot through the doors and you'll be sent into a world of fabrics infused with aisles of colors, textures, accessories, and resources to help level up your quilting skills. And within a few minutes, we were greeted by their staff to provide any guidance or assistance navigating their wares. We were only browsing on this occasion but for those in search of quilting accessories, this is a haven with a variety of fabrics for you to choose from in order to piece together the next masterpiece. We spent a good 15 minutes just perusing the store and all the knickknacks that were available. The samples hanging on the walls were inspiring! The prices seemed reasonable and with the raw materials being affordable and accessible for making such beautiful pieces of art is probably a good reason this hobby still exists. I think what stands out is the quality of the fabrics as the texture and feel of them definitely seem more durable and sustainable than what you'd get through an online store. Overall, The Granary Quilt Shop keeps the quilting community thriving with their shelves full of fabrics and quilting accessories. The team members here are seasoned vets in the hobby and are extremely friendly to support your quilt making needs. A specialty shop with a brick and mortar presence is a fading trend but this shop has clearly made its mark, has a good following among its local community members, and continues to bring in new customers with sales and family activities. For being around for nearly a decade, this shop is a beacon for the quilting community!
