We had a wonderful dining experience. The ambiance is warm and friendly. The service was exemplary with a knowledgeable, personable and conscientious server who was attentive but not invasive. We found him charming. The food was exceptional. We started with the Baby Gem salad and the Artisan Cheese Plate, both excellently prepared and delicious. My husband had the 14 oz. Prime Ribeye with Cafe De Paris butter, horseradish jus, herb garlic fritesthat was perfectly prepared and came with wonderful, flavorful sauces. I enjoyed the Grilled Petite Tender, emphasis on tender! It was lovely. For dessert, we shared the Vanilla Bean Canelé, which was unique and sweet and made a delightful ending to an excellent meal. Got a complimentary champagne toast but I am pregnant . Still nice and we plan on going back. It was my first time eating pork rinds and steamed buns The pork rinds had good flavor and easy to eat. The steam buns were lighter than I expected and pork belly gave it good flavor. Halibut was lightly breaded which was what I wanted and cooked nicely . I really enjoyed it . My husband and I moved to the area recently so we are trying to go to every spot in town. I've been eyeing this place for months and we finally went but it sadly didn't live up to the hype. My husband said "the food doesn't live up to it's name" Pros The Mexican martini is fabulous. A good mix of alcohol with lime and olive juice. However, I wish the olives were more fun/better. The gnocchi lamb was excellent but super small. I wish that was an entree size. Mid/cons The cruller was cool but the flavor wasn't anything to die for. It was literally separate flavors that didn't tie together. The sauce was really good. The scallops were so so. They didn't dazzle. You get 3 basic scallops and the blanched spinach ruined the dish in my opinion The salmon was cooked well but it was served on pesto rice which was terrible. There was no flavor. For $43 I did not want basic white rice mixed with pesto. I got the dessert recommended by my waitress and also didn't dazzle. It was like a basic cheesecake with things on the side. The churro looking thing was super hard and didn't have much flavor. The service and the atmosphere are good! Our waitress was super nice and this place has a cute date vibe. read more

Our party of four generally enjoyed our recent visit here on a Saturday evening. Everything was good-food, cocktails, service-but nothing wowed me. I had the pan roasted seabass, which had an interesting mix of vegetables, sauce and rabbit, which was actually quite an addition to an otherwise decent dish. read more

I my husband took me to this restaurant in Geneva for my birthday,. It's a fabulous restaurant! Our server, Michelle, brought us complimentary glasses of champagne for my birthday. She also made great recommendations and was on top of everything. The other staff who delivered food, cleared plates and filled glasses were on top of everything as well. Good service really adds to the dining experience. My husband had a bourbon and I had a bourbon cocktail called The Brown Derby after the bubbly. Niche has quite an extensive bourbon collection. We started out with the goat cheese waffle with short rib marmalade small plate. So creative and full of flavor. For dinner I ordered the black cod with couscous and Tim ordered the ribeye special, but we decided to share our entrees. Both the fish and steak were cooked perfectly and delicious. The steak, especially had such a great flavor. We ended the meal with a coconut basque cheesecake for dessert ... before we knew that Michelle was surprising me with a cotton candy birthday treat. So nice! The cotton candy is on the menu as an all you can eat dessert! Yes, please! From start to finish, it was a great dining experience at Niche and the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. This is a hidden gem! We have been here before but not for a while. We decided to take our out of town friend to Niche for dinner. They have a selection of wine, beer, whiskey and cocktails (and some mocktails for me). I ordered Kyzer (mocktail) - it was not just a kiddy cocktail, but thoughtfully crafted with complex flavor that an adult (like me) would appreciate. The other cocktails ordered were great. The highlight was the boozy cherries topped on the tiki cocktail. When we asked for some to try, our waitress generously gave use two skewers. These are cherries were soaked in alcohol, and you can smell it. The booziness (is it a word) can be confirmed upon first bite. Just make sure you have a designated driver after. The menu offered dishes with seasonal ingredients, and clearly labeled with gluten-free when available. We ordered Pan Seared Bronzino, Pan Seared Black Cod, and Seared Wagyu Bavette Steak. The food were delicious! They were prepared just right. I like that seasonal ingredients like sunchoke chips, and rutabaga were incorporated in the dish that complimented really well with the main proteins. Went for a special birthday dinner with a group of 5. Appreciate the gesture of starting with a round of sparkling wine. But ask before you put it in front of someone who doesn't drink. Big service fail. This isn't just an oops - it's offensive. Be aware of your customers and ask, don't assume. Ordered the wagyu picana - INEDIBLE! Literally an inedible entree. Not just bad, but the worst beef entree I've ever been served in my life. Fingerling potatoes either overcooked or raw. It was a 530pm service on a Friday, so if the kitchen was already slammed there's bigger problems. 3 desserts ordered. Every one was out in front of the wrong customer. Including the birthday guest and what they wanted FOR THEIR BIRTHDAY. Sloppy. Just sloppy. Careless, offensive, and inedible. HARD PASS. read more

I've always loved the ambiance of this place. However, while celebrating our anniversary this evening, I found the gnocchi extremely salty and my husband's duck dinner very spicy. However, the service by Anna wa exceptional. I did not care for what I tasted as a watered down Chardonnay and requested a Cabernet. The cab was delicious. Pommels frites were also very good. Not sure I would go back as this was my third time there and I did not find not to be exceptional. read more

What a gem of a place! I drove over an hour out from Chicago to check out Niche and boy I'm so happy that I did! The ambiance of this spot is so lovely..great environment and very friendly staff. The food was incredible all across the board. I had the shrimp, fried chicken, and pretzel for apps which were so rich and flavorful. For the entrees my table had the bass (best dish), the pork, chicken, and tuna (least favorite but still delicious). All the dishes were rich is flavor, cooked to perfection, and so fresh. Couldn't wait to dig in, so I don't have many photos but we'll worth the drive. One of the best places I've been to in IL! I highly recommend this spot. read more

Niche is a local treasure for sure! We went at the end of May and had a fabulous birthday dinner for my husband. In celebration of his birthday, they brought a glass of champagne and some sprite for me as I'm pregnant... so thoughtful and made me feel included. We ordered the potato gnocchi, shared the salmon and the Brussel sprouts. Each dish was better than the last, but we particularly loved the salmon! We also ordered the donut holes, a Manhattan and a mocktail. Every single thing we ordered was fabulous and plated beautifully. The service was outstanding (new plates and silverware with every course) and the spot is funky and cool. We felt like we were definitely in an urban restaurant rather than small town suburbia. Niche is our favorite restaurant in the Fox Valley and we always try to have dinner here when we return to town. The food is outstanding and entrées are complex and beautiful. We celebrated another anniversary here on Thursday. The bartender was knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. Our server Michelle was a joy start to finish. We shared the fabulous steam buns to start. I loved the Scallops and accompaniments. My husband's Maple Brined Pork Shank was by far the best pork dish we have ever tasted!!! My meetup group of 10 people came here on 02/27/24 and there would have been 16 of us had it not been for the severe storm prediction. Indeed, tornados did touch down and damage in the area. The bright flashes of lightning visable from the beautiful dimly lit interior made this an unforgetable night. The woodwork is georgeous in this venue. There were pillows all along a bench area where we were seated. The service was excellent and my meal of pan fried artic char was the best seafood dish I ever had. It cost $40.00 and came with no side nor bread. So be forewarned ... this is a pricy place. I enjoyed a delicious bowl of French Onion soup ($14) and house wine was $10/glass. Chardonney was $14/glass for the cheaper one. Splurged for desert and had spiced apple clafoutis served warm. One of our members was surprised with a $6.00 enormous heaping mound of cotton candy for her dessert! We talked, laughed and separate checks were honored. I even sang during our dinner REO Speedwagon's song Ridin the storm out as the lightening flashed continuously and tornado sirens went off. (Yeah it touched down nearby). Please be careful when booking a reservation. I have dined with Niche numerous times in the past. Great restaurant. Unfortunately, we recently had to move our reservation due to numerous members of our party being ill on the day of the event. I called the day of reservation the moment they opened. Their staff told me it would be no issue and that I could just call back when we had a date lined up for the reschedule. I just found that I was charged a $150 cancellation for our party of 6 @ $25 per head. I placed a call and attempted to explain to the staff that we intended on rebooking and that we were also looking to speak with someone about hosting a private event for over 20 people. After their attendant spoke with the owner, I was informed that we would not be getting the charge returned. I asked for call from the owner to discuss the matter, but that hasn't yet occurred. I'm rather floored that an establishment that I've enjoyed so much and referred so many to would choose this form of customer service. Great food. Incredible whiskey selection, lovely staff. (Purchased the advent calendar last year a great Christmas present.) Poor customer service. Please be aware of their rigid policy before booking a reservation. Long term repeat customer lost over $150. read more

Came here for my birthday dinner. After seeing the menu, we were excited to try it. We ordered: Soft Shell Crab, Arctic Char, American Wagyu Denver Steak, Brussel Sprouts, and the Pavlova for dessert. Overall, our favorites were the Brussel Sprouts, Crab, and the dessert. Our mains were a little disappointing. For cocktails I got the Aloha Tiki, and the Vietnamese espresso martini. The tiki drink was pretty good and unique. The martini missed the mark for me. We also got some whiskey which was good. In general not a bad meal but nothing really stood out to make me want to come back. It's also a little overpriced even for the area. read more

With a lot of great restaurants in Geneva, it's important to stand out. Niche does just that. The fried rice is unlike anything you can find out here. This restaurant has been on my list for awhile to try so I'm glad we finally made it! I liked the overall decor but thought the seating was tight. I don't like when I can so easily hear the conversations of the people to the right and left of me. I also had barely any room to get into my chair. I know with a smaller space you have to put the tables closer together and they were completely busy. Service was great. To drink I had something with "Indian" in the name. It had pineapple, rum, and habanero bitters. It was made well but wasn't for me. It only had a little bit of a kick to it which was good. My husband had the old fashioned and enjoyed it. For dinner I had the fried chicken small plate. It had so much flavor and was very moist. I liked the hints of apple and loved the grits. There was a lot of oil/butter in that dish though that it was a little daunting. I'm glad it was a small plate. I also had the bao. I liked the ingredients in it but I didn't think the pork was that good. I liked all the ingredients way more than the pork. I think the meat itself just needed more seasoning or flavor. My husband had the sea bass with risotto. He said it had a very earthy flavor. He enjoyed the dish and wishes he could cook sea bass correctly. For dessert, we had their nightly special. We split it but I could have easily eaten the whole thing myself. It was butterscotch ice cream covered in hard chocolate caramel bourbon. At the bottom was a mix of pretzels and almonds. I would definitely come back to try more! I want to try other desserts and the burger! read more

My fiance and I recently went to Niche and it exceeded our expectations. Long story short: solidly decent American food with some international influences What we ordered: - Crispy Soft Shelled Crab - Red Bean Arancini - Venison Tenderloin - 14oz Ribeye Special - Garlic Frites Details: We went to Niche on a Rainy Friday evening and the restaurant was packed. We had reservations and didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our server was friendly and went through the menu with us. Food: - crispy soft shelled crab (7/10): this was a little pricey at $26 but a nice portion to share though we felt the amount of slaw to crab was a bit high. Would order again. - red bean arancini (4/10): this was the only dish we didn't love. It wasn't bad, it just also wasn't great in our opinion. A bit bland overall. - Venison Tenderloin (8.5/10): The Venison was well executed. Perfectly rare/medium rare and tender and was nicely balanced. This was our favorite dish - Ribeye (6.5/10): the Ribeye was a ribeye- we ordered medium rare but it was closer to medium overall. The only odd thing was the two large bell peppers on the dish that were kind of just there. - Garlic Frites (5/10): not as crispy as we hoped but we air fried the leftovers the next day and it was great. Service/Ambiance/Other: - while we're not picky eaters, we do have quite a high standard for food and have lived in great food cities so we were pleasantly surprised by our experience - service was friendly and not overly intrusive - ambiance was a little loud but fine overall. Decor could be better but average on the whole. - would definitely return when in the area. read more

Love this place--whether you order fish, steak or chops, the menu is eclectic and delicious, service courteous and prompt, but the drinks, THE DRINKS were amazing! The bartenders know their mixology and it shows...and lets not forget the desserts--orange pistachio creme brulee and cotton candy (oh my heart). This would have been a 5-star experience but for the fact that Niche is very tight on space. Diners are placed very close together (I bumped elbows and heard the conversations of my dining neighbors) which made things slightly uncomfortable. Extensive whisky list made trying a couple of flights an enjoyable experience. The food was good, and service friendly and timely.

While the caramelized appetizer and the moctails were really top notch and worth the price, I can't say the same about the ribeye and the pork shank. My ribeye was unfortunately quite a fatty cut, not just on the edge which is expected, but also in the middle of the steak. Maybe my palette is not sophisticated enough but it left me queasy. The pork shank portion was very generous and cooked well but was perhaps not as well seasoned as I would have liked. If you're here for drinks and apps you won't be disappointed, but my dinner selections were just not what I could say was worth the price tag for me. read more
