I was visiting a resident of the area who's lived here for many decades, and he mentioned how this bakery has been around for a while as well. Now the only thing that I had from here was a sausage, egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll, so I can't comment on how anything else tasted, but I really loved my SEC. The roll was super light, and even though the size of the sandwich was big, it didn't feel overly filling. The place was loaded with muffins, cookies, bread, rolls, and pastries - so much to choose from! Update - after actually eating the cakes and pastries I downgraded my rating to 3 stars - the rye bread was amazing and the Napoleon was great but anything that was cake was very dry - almost stale! I got a tiramisu in a cup, 4 Portuguese custard cups, a Portuguese roll and a whole sour cream choc chip crumb cake. Everything was good but there was something very wrong with the crumb cake as it had a foul off putting taste that I couldn't pinpoint. Not sour cream but something like wrong with the ingredients. It was gross and everyone disliked it I only which I didn't get a whole cake of it!! You had to really LOOK for any evidence of choc chips. Also there wasn't much crumb on top to speak of. NEVER do business with Nice & Fresh Bakery on Huntington in Bridgeport!! Super unprofessional, rude and entitled! I placed an order for my sisters gender reveal cake and it was supposed to be half pink, half blue with boy or girl written on top. This is the cake they gave my mom, and it was all white, she had to ask them to write congratulations on top. When I called to complain about the cake, all the girls were very rude and laughing in my face. First they were saying there was no order for me, then they said they found my order and I never paid for the cake, then it was that my mom came in and ordered and paid for a whole new cake, and then it changed to we must've paid for someone else's order. I asked to speak to the manager and she told me she won't be in until 7 so to call at 7 (MIND YOU THEY CLOSE AT 7) they just thought I was dumb. She told me to hold for a few and hung up on my face! So I had my mom call since she's who picked it up and they are saying basically it's my mom's fault and she paid for the wrong cake which is also her fault. They also said it's her fault for not saying anything to them to fix it (mind you, my mom did not know what the cake was supposed to look like since she was just doing me the favor of picking it up. Also, she picked up the cake 30 minutes before closing, how would they have had time to make a whole new cake anyway???) So then they told her to call back at 3:30 when the manager comes in so my mom calls again just now and the manager basically said it's my moms fault too, taking no accountability so I called after and she immediately started yelling at me and hung up in my face telling me we should've confirmed the order like if that's not THEIR job. Terrible food and customer service to match. We ordered a cake for my mom's birthday and specifically said that we wanted a chocolate cake with no mousse. Well, the cake was not only mousse but it was AWFUL! There was a distinct flavor of pepper to the chocolate cake (I thought it tasted like cannabis). But whatever it was, several people said it and a few people didn't even get a heads up from us who tried it first. When I called, the useless person who answered the phone showed absolutely no sign of sympathy but kept trying to make excuses or poke a hole in my story...which she wasn't able to obviously, since this wasn't a prank. I've been here twice for the same reason - last-minute cakes. They have a wide variety available in different sizes and fillings. I was skeptical but they tasted fresh. The counterperson said this is a category they are known for - same day cakes - and they sell many each day. The first time I picked out a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and vanilla inside. It was light and airy, not too sweet. The birthday boy approved. The second time we picked a larger cake with whipped topping and fresh strawberries inside. This cake had compliments from the group of adults. When I find a sudden reason to celebrate and think cake would make it sweeter, I'll be back here again. read more

Well I am sad to report that after nearly 20 yrs of going to Nice & Fresh bakery they have severely disappointed me! I order 100 cupcakes eleven days prior to the event. The first call from the staff a day later asked if I wanted designs? I told her no, just plain white frosting, then 5 days later they called stating that they didn't have a cake tray big enough, so I went to Michael's to buy boards big enough! I then arrive to the bakery and had to explain to the staff the best way to place the cupcakes so that they looks the way I requested.. I gave them the date It was supposed to be ready in my original order, we go to pick it up and what do you know it's not ready!! My friend went to pick up her cake and when she asked when will it be ready the young lady shrugged her shoulders??! I can't begin to explain why this turned out so horribly but all I can say to any potential customer please be mindful to get names /dates of folks you speak to for the purpose of accountability and quality! I grew up in "Hunktown" - The old West End of Bridgeport, where many residents were from Hungary. A bakery called Zeislers had a fantastic Caraway Seed Rye. Zeislers, and most of Hunktown is no longer, but if you want to know what that rye bread was like, go to Nice n Fresh and get a loaf. I live up in the Valley now, but when I make a trip down, I buy several loves of the rye, and freeze them. My daily treat is two slices toasted for Breakfast! read more
