The service is quite fast! My friend and I got seated soon after we came in; and the servers were attentive! The interior is a decent size and you can move tables around for bigger groups as needed. It's not too loud, so you can hold a conversation. Portion sizes are fair; but I don't think the taste is anything special. Overall a nice go-to spot. read more

Great sushi and sashimi. Ordered the bento box, green dragon roll, spicy salmon hand roll and their sashimi 20 piece and aburi rainbow roll and it was very much worth. Great quality sashimi and their maki rolls and sushi rolls are well made and very tasty. Great size and meat and avacado very abundant on their maki rolls. Service was great, servers and chefs are so nice and the ambiance was great. Will continue to keep coming here and highly recommend. read more

Been here about 2-3 times in the last month or two. Definitely one of my favourite sushi spots. The staff are all very nice and friendly. The sushi dishes are really good. Definitely recommend. I'm not able to eat a lot of tempura dishes, I don't really like it in sushi. The staff was able to make some changes in the sushi that had shrimp tempura and offer other sushi that was similar without tempura. I'm so weird I like tempura on its own and I like tempura bits on the sushi but not in the sushi :P I'd say I'm not a fan of the chicken teriyaki. The meat was very soft and tender, it just didn't have much flavour, I added soy sauce to give it a kick. This is definitely a dish my mom or my little niece would like. Ni Ji is probably my favourite a la carte sushi spot in the area. I've been coming here for years and the food is always excellent. This time I came for dinner and we ordered the calamari and soft shell crab appetizers. It was my first time ordered the soft shell crab, it wasn't my favourite so next time I'd probably order something else. We also ordered a bento each. We asked for substitutions to change the California roll with a salmon roll at an additional charge. The bentos also come with miso soup, salad, and a rice dish similar to congee. Wonderfully warm and friendly staff who provide excellent hospitality whether picking up your order or dining in. The atmosphere makes you feel at home and comfortable thanks to very professional attentive service by the entire team behind Ni Ji Sushi. The meal begins with a beverage of your choice (tea or water) and a small serving of rice congee as an appetizer, along with green salad and miso soup. The Sashimi is presented well with generous cuts of fresh from the ocean sashimi. Sashimi Sake (Salmon), Maguro (Tuna), and Butterfish (White Tuna) were delicious. Tempura batter for the assorted tempura was just right, crispy crunchy on the outside and the two pieces of shrimp were made perfectly, not overcooked. The tempura veggies (orange yams, white onion, green bean) were colourful on the inside and very good. The Japchae was also nice, sweet and salty with a slight hint of ginger. It was an absolute pleasure to experience the care with which they treat their customers at this establishment. Ordering was smooth through a quick phone call, they took my name, my order and said it would be about 20 minutes. Food was ready when I got there. Got home and everything I ordered was there. Man, no complaints about the portions I received. I ordered the Assorted Tempura and Bulgogi dinner. Everything tasted fresh and good. I wasn't expecting that much Bulgogi but so happy I did. It definitely filled me up. The tempura was on point. All I was missing was a tall can of Sapporo and I could have called it a night. Prices are reasonable, especially with the portions I received. I've been coming to niji sushi for a long time, over 15 years and today is the worst experience I've ever had. I have an allergy and ask them to substitute the shrimp out of one of the rolls. The waitress brought me shrimp and when I told her I can't eat that she refused to refund it. In contrast, it makes Ni-Ji Sushi's weekday lunch menu an amazing deal. Here you'll receive the protein with way more than two sides since every selection comes with a simple green salad, hot miso soup, and a small bowl of their savoury congee for good measure. For the indecisive, the lunch combination ($16) provides a bit of everything. Sadly, the chicken teriyaki is probably the most forgettable part of the bento. The poached chicken breast lacks flavour and is a tepid temperature, this seriously needs to be marinated and grilled. If anything, I was more impressed with the shredded cabbage below the fowl, which was at least soaked in the teriyaki sauce. The accompanying shrimp and vegetable tempura were delicious, the batter just thick enough, crispy, and sizzling hot. And Ni-Ji doesn't skimp either, with two shrimp and assorted vegetables it's surprisingly plentiful for something that's only one part of the "combination". The last third of the pie is a decent California roll made fresh and an ideal ratio of filling to rice. While the salmon steak could be cooked less, being an oilier fish, the salmon teriyaki ($14) was at least more flavourful than the chicken. This bento is also more manageable for a smaller appetite, served with a cube of cold tried tofu, lightly pickled turnip slivers, and japchae potato starch noodles. For something lighter, the sushi lunch ($14) offers enough food to satisfy without leaving you in need of a nap. Small bites of warm rice sit beneath the salmon, tuna, and butter fish in the six pieces of nigiri and a respectable California roll rounds out the bento. read more

This little place is located on a corner of an intersection. Not a lot of parking, but this restaurant has been around for a while. The servers are very nice here. Food is fresh and tempera has the perfect crunch to each bite. I usually get take out here, but on the occasion I will sit in to eat. We decided to get takeout as we didn't feel like cooking. We were browsing on the usual food ordering apps and came across this place. Lots of great reviews so we decided to give this place a try. We ordered the Love Boat for 2 and the food arrived about an hour later. I was kind of curious that I got 2 big bags filled with: a big platter box and another bag full of many smaller boxes. When we got home, we saw the bags were filled! There are bulgogi, tempura, salad, rice and platter of dragon roll, California roll, sushi and sashimi. The food is fresh, and there's a lot of food!!! And I mean a lot. We got a great bang for buck for the food we got. The food was great despite being delivered. Will order again or even come by when the restriction has been eased a bit. read more

I am usually an AYCE person so this was a definitely an experience. Between two people, we ordered a small set of 20 pcs, Osaka sushi set and a black dragon roll. Oh my, it was DELICIOUS! It was so fresh..... that I savored every single bite and did not want it to end!! We got the black dragon roll after we ate because we were still hungry and wanted to try something else. Altogether, I would say it costs the same price as two people having dinner AYCE and that this place really used quality products. Service was nice as well, people kept refilling out waters. This review is solely based on the food as a work colleague picked up lunch from here for me. Ni Ji is a popular sushi joint at my workplace because of the quality of food along with their reasonable prices. The sushi lunch set that my colleague brought for me was under $15 (before tax) and came as a very generous portion. I usually find a lot of sushi restaurants in Toronto go overboard with the rice. The lunch set from here though had the seafood almost wrapped around the top of the rice, which was great! In looking at the menu, Ni Ji offers Korean dishes as well. I wanted a special Christmas Eve dinner and sushi seemed like the way to go. I found this place on Yelp with stellar ratings and really great combos so it was the easy choice. We placed the order the day before Christmas Eve over the phone with no issues. I was very happy with the covid precautions they took. The gentleman that was helping us was wearing a mask and he sanitized his hands in between customers. He was also super friendly. The family boat comes with an amazing combination of rolls, sushi, and sashimi. I'm pretty basic and I really only eat salmon, tuna, and some of the lighter fishes. This boat was probably half salmon which meant no filler stuff Tamago, octopus, shrimp, and surf clam - you won't be missed. The maki rolls were also more jazzy than a boring california roll found on platters at other places. There was a spicy salmon roll, rainbow roll, and a tempura avocado roll. They put the flying fish roe in a little container by itself so you could scoop to your liking. The fish was super fresh and there was a really good balance of fish to rice. There were a lot of people working on Christmas orders and they probably had at least 30 orders waiting to be picked up. Impressive! As if the fish wasn't enough, the family boat was also accompanied by 4x each of miso soup, green salad, and steamed rice, as well as a side of bulgogi. It was a lot of food that was tasty and good value. This place is a winner and I'll be back for more! read more

This place is a great gem with cheap prices, good food portions, but great quality food. We got the Kyoto sushi dinner, japchae, and assorted tempura. All the food was very tasty! The fish tasted fresh and were nice sized pieces. The japchae was more on the sweet side, which I didn't mind, and was pretty good too! I pass by this place everyday after work. Finally decided to take my wife for dinner and glad we did. It was really good and fresh sushi rolls. Service was fantastic and very friendly. I love going for sushi here if I'm not up for AYCE. They have a great menu variety and good combination in their sets. I usually go for the sushi sets -- my go-to is the Osaka sushi set which comes with 12 sushi's, 3 tuna rolls and 3 California rolls. I have also tried the set with green dragon and spicy salmon rolls, which I enjoyed and found the flavours to complement each other well. The way they present the sushi is so aesthetically pleasing too!! Another good thing is they have bento box selections for those who only want a bit of sushi, as well as a decent selection of korean dishes. Meals come with congee, green salad, and green tea ice cream. Sushi meals also come with miso soup. For the price point (I'd say everything ranges from $15 to $25), with the complimentary stuff, you leave feeling satisfied having a complete well rounded meal. I'm usually very impressed with their service here. They are quick and attentive and at busy times they don't make you feel rushed like some other restaurants do However, one of the main downsides to this place is that it's really small, so sometimes there's a wait. The seating here is also pretty squished in and tables are very closely situated to one another. This personally doesn't bother me much, but I know it may be undesirable to some. The parking lot is pretty small too. Overall, this is one of my top picks for non-AYCE sushi. They have great varieties and combinations for sushi sets! I wouldn't recommend coming here as a big group though, because most of their tables are 2 and 4 seaters. read more

My first time ordering from Ni Ji Sushi and the experience was great. We ordered the Sapporo sushi dinner + California roll + negi hamachi. The sashimi slices are perfectly sliced. Not too thin and not too thick. Negi hamachi had a good mix of green onion for flavor. My son loved the California roll so much, he was dancing. I don't normally order the udon from restaurants but the soup base was really tasty and the tempura was battered perfectly. Just like last time, I had leftovers again but this time so did my parents. Thick slices of fresh sashimi which I was quite impressed with. There was some tempura fried onion or yam stuff in it... which was cold and soggy - that part of the bento turned me off and was untouched throughout the meal. Otherwise the portion for it was good. My friend loves the spicy tuna and spicy salmon maki rolls here because it's spicier than other places. I agree it's spicier than what I am use to. The rolls are quite small and we ordered 2 of the spicy tuna and 2 of the salmon. We also ordered the spicy tuna dragon roll which is a better version of the spicy tuna maki due to the creamy avocado on top! When we couldn't figure out where to go to satisfy both my husband and my craving and my daughter's request for katsu, we decided to give this place a try. It was very busy on a Saturday night and we snagged the last available table. The servers were very pleasant and were quick to take our orders. We ordered tempura dinner, some a la carte sushi and a small sushi/sashimi boat. Overall, salmon-dominated sushi sashimi boat was just ho hum. The variety of fish were your usual tuna, tilapia, salmon and not much else. The shari was sub-par. The tempura dinner was just ok as well. Veggie-heavy tempura selection didn't really have as light a batter as I like for tempura and there were all of 3 shrimps which were dense and oily. Their miso soup was milder in flavour and less salty than the usual restaurant offering which I appreciated. All in all, we had an ok meal here. The salmon was the only thing that was worth eating (good amount of fat), though slightly fishy. Tempura was hard and ice cold. Ordered fatty tuna and the whole piece was sinew. First time I've ever spat out sushi. Uni was not completely fresh but it was edible. $7 for 2 pieces wasn't worth it. $20/person total for the entire meal. Wasn't nearly full. I probably won't ever come back. I recommend Gal's Sushi & Aka-oni (GTA area) and even Mac's sushi over this. read more

I came in on a Friday and after reading all the reviews I had high expectations. However, I was very disappointed. This place definitely fell short from the average rating. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Combo, Hamachi Sushi and Alaska Roll. The sushi and sashimi combo came with 12pc Sashimi and 9pc sushi. It sounded like a good amount but the variety was vert limited. It came with salmon, tuna butterfish, shrimp and another fish I'm not sure of. The tuna sashimi were really weird cuts, with tendon like the end of the fish. It was super fishy and really chewy, I couldn't eat it and spat it out. The shrimp also had a strange taste that you can tell was previously frozen. The butterfish and the salmon were the best on the platter. It was edible, fresh and delicious. The hamachi sushi, wasn't fresh either. In fact it had a weird sour taste to it, like warm fish... It tasted nothing like it. As for the Alaska roll, it was basically a California roll with salmon on top. Which I must say was the best thing we ordered because the California roll had no raw fish inside and the salmon was the only fresh sashimi they had. I came on a Saturday for light lunch and decided to share the special bento dinner between two people. It comes with a miso soup, a salad, a small bowl of congee, the bento dinner and ice cream! It's a lot of food for around $30 after tip and tax. For one person, it's a little expensive but it would have been a feast. They obviously use a high quality of ingredients. Each piece of fish was sweet, with no tendons, and they didn't skimp on the size. Each sashimi was sizable and thick so you could really sink your teeth into it. The rice is obviously fresh and they took the time to season it correctly so it enhanced the flavor of the sushi or the maki. Came here two times now and both times I ordered the sashimi be to box which costs around $24. A little expensive but for the amount not of sashimi and for the quality of it, it's worth your money! I didn't count how many were in I'm but it included soup, salad, and congee (super yummy!!), sashimi, sushi, rolls, and tempura. To finish off, they serve ice cream. Each piece was so thickly cut too! It'll leave you feeling full and for me, I has to pack up what I couldn't finish and use it as lunch for the following day. I don't care if people flame but I personally don't know what the hype is surrounding this place. Friday night @ 6:30pm, no resos, and a friend and I were seated immediately. The restaurant wasn't packed but we were rushed to order food within 5 minutes of sitting down. Politely told waitress (who was friendly BTW) that I was not ready and she gave us more time. ONLY to return within 3 minutes to ask again. At this point, I'm a bit annoyed and it showed. She stands there and begins to give me recommendations. Her reco. was actually $3 more than getting a sushi dinner. LOL. I ended up getting the Sapporo Sushi for $14.95 with 7pcs of assorted nigiri, 6 pcs maki and 1 giant hand roll. Portions were large for the price and sushi tasted 'good'. Friend ordered the bento and seemed satisfied with the food. I don't know what is more annoying. 1. When we finished our food and I had 3 pieces of nigiri and the hand roll leftover and asked to have it packed, she was hesitant to give me a box. OR 2. when they gave us ice cream and we hadn't even asked for the bill and they brought the machine over at the same time. I literally felt like I had a minute to eat the ice cream. Never felt so rushed at a sushi resto before. Oh, the place wasn't even packed and 1 couple was waiting for seats. Why the rush? This place is average in my books.
