Amazing family-owned pharmacy!
I'm on a number of controlled substances because of my illnesses and it's always been a headache to facilitate refills with the Walgreens down the block from me, especially when prior authorization is needed. There are always delays with my medication (which I need to take daily) so I have the stress each month of wondering if my medication refills will come in on time. It almost always takes me at LEAST an hour of wait time on the phone before I'm able to speak with a pharmacist at Walgreens (with an annoying automated message playing every 10 seconds).
After a particular frustrating time in trying to refill one of my medications that I need to stay awake for my narcolepsy before a two-week trip, I decided to transfer my prescription over to Nguyen Pharmacy. Since I'm a new customer, they gave me a phone call to let me know my prescription is ready.
It's a 5-minute drive away for me but Google Maps initially recommended I take Rainier Ave...I knew better and took the MLK Jr. Way route.
I got there a little before their 9am open time so I took my dog on a walk around the nearby blocks. There was ample two-hour street parking in addition to the Nguyen Pharmacy parking lot. There were also a couple of dog poop disposal cans on our walk, which was handy.
I was in and out in a couple of minutes. No waiting 30+ minutes in line (whether in the drive through or standing inside) like when I get to Walgreen's first thing in the morning. I was surprised to find out that my medication was free! The price estimator from my insurance showed it as equal cost to what I was paying through Walgreens.
The service was friendly and they made sure that I felt comfortable knowing how to take my medication (though I've been taking it for years now).
I also like that the prescription label on the bottle is laminated and it has some handy yellow labels with major instructions/warnings in case you don't take the time to read through the long list of directions/instructions that comes with your medication (and of course, the pharmacist can answer any questions you may have).
They don't have an app yet but they do have a handy online form for refills (just enter your basic info and prescription number). On the form, you can request to get a notification through either phone call, text, or no notification when your prescription is ready. You can also enter up to 10 prescription numbers on the form.
They're only open from 9am - 5pm on weekdays and closed on weekends so it might not be the best choice for those that aren't able to pick up prescriptions during standard business hours. This is very understandable though. Since it's a small, family-owned operation, I would hope that their staff are able to spend week nights and weekends with their families.
I can't attest to how the parking and lines are during peak hours since I always pick up medications at the start of my day but highly recommend them based off my experience! read more
