The guys they sent to do the demo work were unqualified and made a mess of my yard and the drip edge of my roof issue mangled in many places (Chris said it would be straightened then just hid it behind the gutters). Luckily the roofing crew finished the work they started, but it still didn't come out great. I've got multiple gaps that have formed around the fascia boards and gutters that are all messed up now, with water getting behind them in multiple places. There are wasps currently building nests in the gaps they left. I've called, texted and sent messages to Chris (the owner) through Yelp and he hasn't responded once and apparently doesn't stand behind his work. They also found a roof issue while they were doing the fascia boards that required them to remove a section of the roof and repair it, and while I haven't noticed any issues with it yet I'm nervous about the quality of it after seeing how the fascia boards turned out. They were supposed to replace the soffit reveal where they replaced the roof but never did, and I found a piece where they were supposed to install pvc fascia material is actually just a piece of tin cut to that shape. The soffit reveals all around the house are also uneven in a lot of places. I ended up having to buy a roofing magnet to pick up the hundreds of nails they left behind in my yard. I tried to give Chris the opportunity to make this right, but he won't answer or return any of my calls or messages. I would not recommend using Oakwood Roofing.

Overall, for me, Bryson Builders was a great decision, because Peter, the contractor, has experience with the insurance claim process; he is not "salesy" and listened to my concerns/questions; and he had a thorough estimate that clearly outlined all the work that would be completed. Having never been through a renovation, the repair process went beyond my expectations. Given that my roommate and I were still living in my home through the process, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The Bryson Builders team members were professional and treated my home well. For the most part, the work area was cleaned on a daily basis and I can see progress as time passed. Due to my schedule, I appreciated the flexibility in being able to communicate with Peter via phone or email. I received updates from Peter frequently allowing me to be mentally prepared and/or to prepare my home as necessary. The finished product is so amazing, from the quality paint job throughout the home, the installation of the countertops, electrical work, and the bathroom tiling to the roof replacement. Not only does my house feel more like home but I feel confident that my home can withstand another snowpoccalypse. Ian took the time to talk on the phone when I first reached out about the project and the scope of work. He even reviewed some drawings I had done of the space and pointed out some things to think about for the layout (such as if we moved the fridge, we'd have to make sure we could access a water line for the ice maker). Ian met with us at the house to talk about the project, and we engaged Ian and IDR shortly thereafter. All told, the renovation took about 4 weeks, which was a great timeline and we are very pleased with how it came out. Ian was responsive, polite, and overall a pleasure to work with, and his subcontractors were polite, unobtrusive and cleaned up each day. We were fortunate in that we had a clear vision of what we wanted (which made the design process easy), but Ian truly helped bring that vision to life and thought of ways to make it better that we hadn't thought of, all while never being pushy or disrespectful. Byggmeister was very good at protecting all interiors and keeping everything clean/not dusty in what can be very messy work. Responsive team that is extremely knowledgeable about building science. They also removed radiators (I've gone to all heat pumps for heating and cooling) and repaired my wood floors where radiators were removed so I have more space. I can't say enough about the quality of their carpentry,innovativeness in taking wood from closet to repair holes in wood flooring so matches incredibly well, and ease of dealing with Byggmeister employees. I'd highly recommend Byggmeister if you looking to remodel - have a historic renovation, to finish attic or basement- convert home to two units etc- especially because they are SO knowledgeable about incorporating energy upgrades in older homes as part of renovation. This is unique to all design build contractors that I have experience with.

It's beautiful now, and very solid and well-insulated (the opposite of its former state). They also replaced two basement windows, and our carpenter ant infested bulkhead door. Paul's crew were all very nice, interesting, hard-working, and talented people. Great communication throughout the work. Another reason I like them is that they are extremely concerned with the quality of their work - as opposed to those who are simply collecting a paycheck. They said that they will contact us to follow up after a year, and again in 2 years. Finally, they are very much aware of the energy efficiency of the structures they are building, and even brought an air-sealing specialist over one morning to ensure that there were no air leaks into the new crawlspace (what other firm would bother to do that, at least for a crawlspace?). If you go with a dirt-cheap contractor, you may pay less up front, but more over time through your utility bills.

Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience with Rod Vaca and Cambridge Home Renovations…read more This was surprising since we had a positive first impression of Rod, and were impressed with his reviews online. I strongly recommend against using Rod's services. We paid an unnecessarily high price for our reno, yet received low quality work, and went through an exhausting and unpleasant process. After more than 8 months, our renovation is still unfinished and Rod stopped responding. We are now pursuing legal action. We hired Rod in September 2020 to renovate our home. Rod's team worked on multiple rooms, doing woodwork, painting, and finally, doing a small remodel of our kitchen. Rod charged a high price for our kitchen, but he assured us of high quality workmanship. Then we went out of town and Cambridge Home Renovations performed poor quality work while we were gone. Our kitchen shelves were not level, the window trim had gaps, our range hood was twisted and not level, and they left an electric plate in the middle of our wall. Rod said deficiencies would be fixed later on the "Punch List" and told us our payment for the kitchen was due immediately. We trusted him and we paid him. It is 8 months later and Rod has not returned to fix the Punch List items. In addition to the kitchen deficiencies, he also left gaps in our expensive wainscoting, peeling paint in our bathroom, and a light switch that doesn't work. Sadly, Rod is attempting to gaslight us and tell us these deficiencies are not his responsibility. For example, he said the kitchen shelves are fine, yet they are very slanted. Rod refuses to acknowledge that they are not level. We cannot believe the thousands of dollars we paid for these low quality, slanted shelves. It has been a sad and exhausting experience. It's not worth your risk to work with him. If you do hire Rod Vaca, be prepared to actively manage his team and regularly perform QC checks on their work, otherwise they will cut corners. You will need to confront Rod regularly about the workmanship. Do not pay him until everything is adequate. Do not believe him when he says things will be fixed "on the Punch List". He will simply stop responding and leave your Punch List money behind. The most disappointing part is how Rod repeatedly gaslighted us. He will say that the deficiencies are due to problems with your home. He will make you feel uncomfortable and unreasonable when you highlight deficiencies. But unless you do this, Rod's team will do sloppy work whenever possible.
