they get the job done fast, but there quality, craftsmanship and caring about doing a good job, is seriously lacking. they destroyed a 12 ft section of aluminum flashing that abuts the sunroom roof and house wall. they made numerous 2 inch holes in the flashing, my guess is with a pry bar, during the removal of the shingles below the flashing, speed is everything, taking your time to make sure you don't damage the flashing is an afterthought. Now I'm concerned about all the other flashing on my roof, that was probably damage during the roof job, that I won't know about until I see the leaks In my house interior. read more

I've been a Len Gibely customer for years, calling them to take care of various projects. This past weekend, the roof on the garage began to leak, despite being only 9 years old. Naturally I reached out to Len Gibely. What was their response? "Unfortunately we are not taking on any new roof repairs at this time. We are currently booked 8 months out. Maybe try reaching out to the company that installed your roof?" Ok. So apparently there is a waiting list of people with actively leaking roofs willing to wait 8 months to have them repaired? Len Gibely must have branched out into mold remediation as well as roofing. And as they must surely know, since I've been a customer of theirs for so long, that the 203k construction company that rehabbed the house isn't going to be come back for a roof repair 9 years later - they only do total rehabs. I asked them to install gutters on one side of my house (previous owner had none and water was damaging the sides of the house). The gutter install went perfectly. Where Gibley failed us was where the water was diverted. They didn't route the water sufficiently away from the house. The first rain we got, my basement was flooded. They came out and admittedly had to do some difficult work because of difficulty routing with our deck. What they did still didn't work and water poured into our basement again. When we determined it was too difficult to get under our deck, I asked them to please route on along the deck and a distance away to avoid flooding. Weeks later after several calls, the person who finally came to do the work did the sloppiest job. He didn't route neatly and even routed through our furniture. I'll have to finish the job myself. In 2001, Gibely replaced a roof on a 3 unit victorian mansion where I owed a condo. They were the most professional and best quote so we went with them. Their work was impeccable. They carefully covered the large rhododendron that surrounded the house when removing the roof. They clean up everything. In 2005 I bought a house and Gibely installed a new roof there as well. They also replaced a large custom front door, two windows and a deck. The work they did was very high quality. I read some other reviews here saying they had problems with customer service; I didn't have that type of problem at all. Initially, Jeff came to my home and was extremely professional and thorough and gave a detailed estimate. Brian is very easy to work with and his experience shows on each project. I have used this company multiple times for new windows and projects. In May they installed a new roof. It was done in one day. Strip off 2 layers of old shingles, repair rotted plywood and installed the new roof. Big crew and as always the man in charge was courteous and communicated everything to me. Len Gibely installed a new roof and four skylights for us. They arrived with a big crew and did a nice job on both the roof and skylights, finishing the roof in one day and returning the following Monday to trim out the skylights on the interior. On the down side, the office manager wasn't very pleasant to work with and it was difficult to know who to contact regarding return times, etc. We asked for gutters to be installed after the roofing job and apparently they weren't interested as we haven't heard from them since they left about six weeks ago. On Saturday, March 3rd the Nor'easter blew off part of my ridge cap and two rows of shingles. As luck would have it I was out of town for the weekend. When I returned home Monday I called every roofer I could find to see if they could fix the hole in my roof. All were too busy. I left a message on the machine at Len Gibely Construction. Mind you an other Nor'easter was coming in on Wednesday, March 7th so I climbed up on my roof to do the repair as best as I could. Just as i was getting started a fellow from Len Gibely Contruction pulled up in a white pick up. I asked him if he could get a crew here to do the job right. He climbed up the ladder, looked at my roof and said, "Sure, we can get this fixed for you today." I asked, "How much?" He said, "A couple hundred bucks." I told him, "Please have your crew do it." They arrived an hour later, three roofers all working hard and fast and well together. In thirty minutes my roof was once again water tight. That was the best $200 I spend in the last decade. They did an absolutely beautiful job on removing a rotting roof deck, replacing the bad roof underneath, and building a great new deck on top of the new roof. It wasn't cheap. but you get what you pay for. They were definitely the most professional of all the quotes we got. This was on top of our very tall three story house, in the month of February. I can only render a rating on their customer service regarding estimates. I live in Salem and had asked for an estimate on gutter cleaning and repair. TWO weeks later, I had not heard from anyone and called back. The person who answered the phone very politely told me that Tom, their contractor for gutter work, was planning on coming out the next day. I set aside the time to be available for him. He calls me that morning to tell me that he had some emergency work to do and that he won't be able to come. He hoped to come next week. The next week, I didn't hear from him, so the following week I called and explained to the person on the phone that it had been a month and I wasn't sure if the company was really interested in the business. She was very sympathetic and assured me that it is now how they ordinarily do business. She was fine. A couple of days later, I get a call that Tom would be out the following morning. He shows up and immediately tells me that our house is too big (It's a 2 1/2 story Victorian, with that half story being a converted attic, so the gutters are actually at the top of the 2nd floor). Their insurance company won't allow it for liability reasons. The company, he says, stopped doing roof and gutter work on buildings taller than 2 stories a couple of years ago. As Salem has MANY true 3 story homes in the historic neighborhoods, this is going to limit the business they can do. Tom didn't apologize for all of this time wasted (over a month), plus the two partial mornings I set aside. And if the company has a height limitation, why not inquire as to the height of the house from the opening phone call when the estimate is requested?? The website has gutter work as a service they specialize in. The process certainly leaves me in doubt. At the very least, I hope that those who read this who have homes taller than 2 stories will save a lot of time by avoiding calling this contractor. read more

I hired Len Gibely Construction Co to fix some gutters that had been damaged and to install new gutters on the front of my house. Their prices were fair and they gave detailed explanations of what would be included in the scope of work. Al showed up to the job site and immediately got to work. On the gutters that needed to be repaired, there was a decent amount of rot on the facia boards under the gutters. This meant the facia boards and some rafters would need to be repaired or replaced. Al was able to handle these issues and repair the gutters without delaying the job at all. He explained my options in each case and let me know the best way to go about the repairs so that the problems would not happen again. The unexpected repairs added some extra cost to the job, but the additional cost was very reasonable. With the additional repairs, the job took a couple of days. At the end of each day the job site was clean and organized. All debris was removed and all trash was taken off site. It was like nobody was ever there. Overall I was very satisfied with the work that was done. Al was very knowledgable and was able to answer any question that I had. His extra suggestions made perfect sense and showed his expertise in the area. I would strongly recommend this company for any work that you need done. Although I only had gutter work done, I would use them for any roofing/siding job in the future. When you call the office you get a call back, when you email you get a response, when you ask a question you get an answer. With some contractors, that is not always the case. Upon calling to schedule an estimate, we were told it was $250 for an estimate (lol) and that it "wasn't worth [his] time" to come all the way out to Amesbury if we weren't going to do business. Guess what? We would have, if it had been a good estimate. But then again, we clearly know nothing about business. At least we got a free lesson in that. read more

I called Len Gibely Construction to install some replacement windows a couple of years ago, and was very pleased with their work then, so several weeks ago I contacted them again to check out a hole in my house that indicated some rot. I got an estimate indicating that to take off the boards and evaluate the problem would cost a specified amount, and if there was further repair necessary, there would be a reasonable sounding hourly rate charged. They took about five weeks to begin the work, but I knew that ahead of time. They did indeed find rot in a portion of the sill, and fixed all that up, having explained to me in great detail what they would be doing. I received the invoice today, and was very pleasantly surprised to see how reasonable the job cost was. I was away from home for the whole time the worker was here, and was stunned at how few hours he took to do the job, because it looked huge to me. Clean up was thorough, not a speck of debris left. they did as they quoted however customer service was not great. First when i sent in for the work to ve done they did not call me to cknfirm that they recieved the paperwork. instead of scheduling and then rescheduling if needed they simply claimed they could not schedule until the day before due to potential rain which was not in the schedule. They left somewhat of a mess. I had 5 or so pieces of old wood the size of my arm they walked by and left. While working they simply went out back without letting me know I have a dog and if he was outside he could've got out. lastly the fascia they put up was white. like the contract said but when I asked what to use to paint it the installer could not tell me. following this all I receive an email saying how they thought they did such a nice job and would like to leave a sign out when they come by to pick up the check. I simply said ok I'll leave the check in the mail box. they emailed me back saying what about the sign and got my name wrong...clearly don't read through their emails before sending them. I wrote them an email explaining thisall and distinctly wrote I need to clean up the wood this weekend. their response was 1. she deals with alot of people hence the name issue. again just read through the email it is not an internal email. 2. they would've sent someone out to clean up the mess. Funny they said this cause they still had time to but decider not to read the email close enough to realize I did not pick it up. 3. they claimed they went out back without asking cause I had a newborn. yet they rang the bell and knocked earlier in the day. also they mentioned they could hear the dog barking. 4. they told me that their worker was simply an installer and not a painter. ok this is reasonable but if they deal with pvc fascia daily they shoukd know a little more about typical questions like what do I use to paint. I can let this slide. if this was all it would've been 4 stars since I feel five is exceptional services. long story short the job was installed right but they did not clean up as well as I hoped like the contract said read more
