First off, work was done promptly, and of high quality, with incredible transparency of what was going on, as well as good thoroughness. If you work with NGB, you'll be working with the Owner/Operator Nick (NGB is actually an acronym for his name). He goes out to the locations and either does the work himself, or is the leader of the team doing the work (for larger jobs). I called NGB out to look at a small leak which was causing bubbling behind paint. After inspection, Nick pointed out different sections of the roof which had poor construction previously and pointed out which areas were concerning, why they were concerning, and how they were going to be repaired. On top of this, he took pictures & video to show what he was talking about, and was very frank about his work, work ethic, pricing, and policies. All of this earns him a thumbs up from me, I can't necessarily compare other roofers to his work, but Nick's work was good and thorough, which is enough to merit picking him over others. A few notes that he will tell you up front: Due to schedule and the size of his operation (he does all the assessment and such himself), he may be busy and not-answer calls all the time, but leaving a message, and or trying multiple times may get him. Many roofers will not perform a comprehensive inspection alone without the prospect of a roof replacement because that where the big profit comes from in roofing. However, if a roofer is passionate about his profession and believes in providing a service, a quality that is hard to find these days in the service sector, then the inspection should be part of what roofers should offer. Nick did that to the utmost. He is knowledgeable (just plain smart), courteous, prepared, meticulous, willing to scale a tall house, and patient about documenting what he found including providing pictures. Nick is a great guy. Called several other companies I found on Yelp about a leaking skylight, most said they only work on roofing, and others said they only do full re-roofs in the summer. Nick is a pleasure to deal with. He came out same day when I had a leaky garage roof (on a house that was re-roofed ten years ago with lifetime shingles, no less!) and immediately put up a gutter extension to fix the problem temporarily until he could re-do that section of roof. Apparently the people who'd originally done the job improperly aligned the rain slots on the shingles. He promised to come back that week and re-do it, but I was second in line behind another customer with a leaky skylight. Well, the other skylight turned into a nightmare, so Nick apologetically called me and asked if it would be okay if he came over on a Saturday to do my roof instead. Of course! While here, he re-roofed the bad section, replaced/extended the bad downspout into the gutter, then went around the whole roof and re-sealed all my skylights, which also had been improperly installed. The whole way through the inspection and process, Nick took lots of photos on his phone and texted them to me. There was never any doubt the work was necessary or that the previous roofers had not done things right. Nick just replaced my roof and did a gutter conversion from gutters built with a dip in the actual roof (which is terrible with cedar trees) and changed out roof to be straight pitched with normal gutters. Nick the owner answered my first call to NGB Roofing. I explained my leaking roof into the attic problem. He listened. Nick offered to inspect the roof and attic. He was up front about charging a fee to come out, and apply the fee to work done. He requested contact info, pictures and details of the best times to correspond. Nick walked the roof to not only check the acute problem, but look for other issues. During the inspection, Nick was very detailed about the roof repair process, and recommended metal vents to replace the plastic. Nick made referrals for services I would need for mold, wet insulation etc for water in the attic. The night before the job I was texted when they would arrive and what to expect. During the repair I had to leave for work. Nick sent me pictures of the process at every step and completion. NGB did an excellent quality repair. I called Nick on the Friday before Thanksgiving as a small leak suddenly appeared in the hall ceiling. It was late and he offered to come by Saturday and check it out. They came, inspected, found the problem, took pictures and we talked a ballpark figure to fix it. Thoughtful, meticulous and honest are the 3 adjectives that best describe both Nick and his high quality work! I called Nick when a leak redeveloped in a portion of our roof above our kitchen sink. This problem first occurred two years ago when we noted water dripping through the recessed light fixture. Another roofing company came to our home and informed me that the leak was due to the flashing not being securely attached to the roof shingles. His assessment seemed reasonable so I believed him and paid him to securely fasten the flashing. Fast forward two years later, and the same exact leak recurred with the first heavy rain of the season. I contacted the original roofer who said he would come back to my home to reassess the damage, but never did and then failed to return any of my subsequent texts or voicemail messages. So after reading some impressive Yelp reviews, I decided to call Nick from NGB roofing and I am so glad I did! In spite of a very busy schedule, he came to my home the following day to assess my problem. For nearly two hours he meticulously examined every nook and cranny of my roof in an effort to diagnose the correct cause of my leak. He informed me that it did not seem as though the flashing being improperly fastened was contributing to the leak as the ply wood beneath the flashing was bone dry. Rather there were several holes in various portions of the roof, missing flashing in certain areas, and shingles around my drain vents had not been appropriately attached. He provided me with photos of all of his findings and carefully reviewed them with me as he helped explain what was likely causing my leak. Having no knowledge about roofs, I could tell from the photos that my roof should likely be replaced, which Nick confirmed but he did not try to push me to commit to a roof replacement. In fact, he said that Fall/Winter roof replacements in Seattle can be risky as the frequent rains could damage my home during the replacement. He offered to repair as much of the damage that he identified to get me through this rainy season. He then encouraged me to get bids from other companies for roof replacement, and if I wanted to go with his team he'd be more than happy to work with me. He spent close to 4 hours at my home, carefully reviewing all of his findings and then making the repairs we agreed to. Never have I met someone so patient, conscientious and meticulous when it comes to identifying the problem, explaining to me his findings and making the repair. What else can I say? I honestly think he is the best in his business. He is the first and the last! He knows what he is talking about and for sure even before he climbed to my roof to see what was going on, he already pointed to me what he think is the problem. Right just at the very edge of my gutter was my attic vent which he said wasn't supposed to be there.
