We come here for all special occasions. Birthdays, Mother's Day lunch, just because we're in Portland. Unfortunately it's the closest veggie grill to where we live. I haven't had anything I didn't like. My carnivorous companions were pleasantly surprised they don't hate vegan food or actually love it lol. Friendly staff. Fast service. Yummy food. I love the slogan too!!!

Veggie Grill - downtown Portland, OR We're in Pdx for a few days. Sooo many places to try, new and old, so little time lol. While we can eat Veggie Grill in Seattle, tonight we opted for convenience as Veggie Grill is within a few minutes walk of our hotel and I've been jonesing their Pan Seared Salmon protein plate ever since it was first announced but haven't had the chance to stop by Veggie Grill locally. We got a bit carried away with ordering too much, which isn't unusual when going to Veggie Grill lol, it almost seems sacrilegious to go there and not order some variety of Mac and Cheese . Everything was great, VG never disappoints . The cheese bites were great, haven't had them before .. pretty sure it's a relatively new offering. The center was soft and cheesy and nicely balanced with the dipping sauce. The Seared Salmon had a great flavor. If I'm being honest, I didn't find it to be very reminiscent of salmon, there was no flakiness associated with salmon, this dish had more of a vegan spam feel/ texture. This was my observation but it's not intended as a critique, just my objective take. The dish was really good, very flavorful, the color was reminiscent of salmon and there was a subtle but noticeably pleasant seafood-y after-taste on the back end. I have to mention how friendly and personable everyone was. We've always found staff at VG and Next Level to be friendly but everyone tonight just seemed really genuinely approachable and friendly. Kelsey took our order for us and chatting with her really felt like we were in a place where we belonged, a vegan home away from home, an extra touch that was really appreciated. So my recommendation is ... come for the food, come for the camaraderie, and then stay way too long because you're gingerly nursing a food coma from ordering and eating too much .

Ordered kimchi steak bowl and green smoothie. Great full menu with variety of options. Ingredients felt high quality and fresh. Flavors were solid. Wish there was more "steak" - felt barely there. The smoothie was filling and delicious!

    Meh, good portion though.

Still the same after more than a decade since my last visit. Know that just because it's vegetarian doesn't mean it's good for you. The Sonoran Bowl was filling, but it's probably one of their more expensive options. I'd pass on this one. I just didn't feel good after eating.

Damn. This really was a pleasant surprise. I heard that Portland was a Mecca for veganism and vegetarianism. I can see why. It's organic and it's delicious. Yes. The service here was efficient and direct. I knew what I was going to get. Were there crowds?? Nope. It was nice not having a a loud crowd make a bunch of noise The real amazing part was trying something different. You think that oh a regular Buffalo chicken wrap going to be the only good tasting one. Not when you're here. When you make that order, when you get that wrap, you are in for a different experience. Will it 100% replace my like for chicken? Probably not. But it was so worth it. Awesome job!

I'm not even vegan. I ate here because my wife is, and let me tell you as a carnivore I WAS DECIEVED. I got the Carne Asada taco's. I talked to the manager who explained the meat was seiten. I've heard about it before, but this was the first time actually trying it. I kid you not, it had the texture and taste of meat. Also had the lemonade which was pretty good too.

Ok, so I reduced a star from the 5 stars I left for the Cedar Hills location, and I will explain why. This Downtown location doesn't have outdoor seating, yet, according to my friend, it did in the past. Secondly, it doesn't offer the comfortable boothes you will find in Cedar Hills. The chairs are typical, hard, not so comfy chairs. They did appear to have half boothes up top, but that area was unfortunately closed off. I also noticed the back door was boarded up, perhaps there was a burglary? I hope they relocate to the burbs honestly, where looking and paying for parking is a non issue. So on to the food finally. I ordered the Sunrise burger because it's a limited time only offering. I don't like that the burgers come alacart, I feel that fries should come automatically for a $16 vegan burger. While I am not a fan of the beyond burger patty they use if it was by itself (though BB's ground beef vs the patty is better), it's still a 5 star vegan burger because they load it with so much good stuff that all just works so well together! The BB patty alongside the plant based bacon, the plant based cheese, the dressing, the bun (they don't use the crap buns), together it was all sooo super good. Oh and how could I forget the egg!? The egg didn't really have flavor, but it looked like an egg! And it added a different texture since it was prepared sunny side up, so quite runny, not sure how I feel about that either way- Grade A The fish tacos continue to be tasty. You only get 2 small ones because it's an appetizer. I just wish they were also offered in a wheat tortilla, or a tastier corn tortilla. My entire life I've only ever once had a good corn tortilla. They're pretty much the same everywhere. - Grade B My friend had a Chicken Caesars Salad. I mentioned before I don't like their chicken strips. I still don't like their chicken in any form. Too bad because I've liked vegan chicken before. - Grade C- Lastly, I've had a partial change of heart about their Korean steak dish. I liked it when my friend ordered it. But when you have a bite of something, it's not the same as eating all of it. It really is too spicy. While it was ordered with the orange sauce on the side, that wasn't the sauce that was spicy apparently. Most of the spice is in the steak part, and that's the best part! I will ask if it can be made less spicy if possible. - Grade A+ if it can be made less spicy, otherwise C- The Belgian chocolate cake was once again very creamy, rich, and delicious, but I forgot to take a photo this time.- Grade A

Vegan bowl with blistered cherry tomatoes, Just Egg, butternut squash, kale, mushrooms, and quinoa

I forgot how good this place was. It's a great spot for vegan food, whether you're looking for something on the healthier side or want something approximating junk food. The bowls are a good option for the former. I got something that looked like bibimbap complete with a Just Egg (surprisingly authentic). The specials menu also changes pretty regularly. My one gripe is the prices - if you order a protein plate, you're looking at about $25, which is kind of steep for a weekday lunch - inflation notwithstanding.

Kayla our server was super nice and professional. The Food was very good and my group had 17 people all vegetarian or vegan. We all enjoyed our meals and smoothies. This restaurant was clean, bright and busy. Thank you!

    Far East Thai Chick'n Bowl
    Lisa L.

First time coming in. Enjoyed our meals, the bowls were good and tasty. Far east chik'n was our favorite, the flavors were good and the crispy chik'n was yummy. Staff was friendly, we came after 1:00 on a Saturday, it was quite busy so be patient, as it seemed there is not a lot of staff.

    Tofu Zen Bowl

Got the Tofu Zen Bowl and it was honestly so good. Super fresh, the tofu had great flavor, and everything just tasted really clean. Also looked amazing. Definitely coming back.

First off, what a stylish, refined-yet-casual atmosphere. Love the layout of the restaurant; it was bright and spacious. They have a variety of tables and booths for various party sizes, plus outdoor dining! All the staff were smiling, kind, and friendly! Our food and drinks came out very quickly. We ordered a good share of items since we wanted to try a variety of things! From the happy hour menu, we got the Boudin Balls and Romaine Wedge Salad. From their dinner menu, we ordered the Virginia Ham Deviled Eggs (upgraded), Local Fried Green Tomatoes, Yellow Grits, Crawfish Etouffee, and Chicken and Waffles Two Pieces. It was my first time trying most of these things. My favorite app was the fried green tomatoes; they weren't wet, were nicely breaded, and were well seasoned. All the fried items were perfectly fried! The eggs, since we upgraded to trout roe, were very salty. The boudin balls were dense, savory, and meaty--not my personal favorite. I enjoyed trying the grits, but my favorite was the crawfish! It was sweet and savory, the sauce was a good consistency, and the portion was generous. The chicken and waffles were fabulous--I can see why they're popular! I don't normally eat this, but it was the perfect mix of savory and sweet; I loved the sweet potato too! Screen Door is a popular spot in Portland, and I can see why! It's a must-visit for visitors and tourists. You'll find it in the Pearl District, off Couch Street.

My co-worker mentioned wanting some "creole, southern cooking" so I did some more Yelp'ing of course, revealing yet another bookmark, Screen Door! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on Couch St. in the Pearl District is this gem. The outside isn't much to look at, it's straightforward and modern. The restaurant is set on the corner and is adorned with yellow touches with a decent-sized outdoor section. Once inside it feels like a nice old-school mansion set right out of the bayous of New Orleans. Lots of low yellow lighting, woods and bright tiles decorate the bar as well as the seating areas. It's one big open seating area with the bar off to the right. I loved the open concept. It was busy, but wasn't terribly loud. I also LOVED how this place loudly and proudly welcomed LGBTQ+ community with a rainbow of balloons as well as artwork! Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues here whatsoever. Food: The drinks were strong, colorful and delightful. Being based on southern cooking I had to try the classing New Orleans Hurricane and Sazerac! The Hurricane was huge, delicious and of course, strong. The Sazerac was practically perfect. First up I checked out the Hush Puppies which are cornmeal fritters w/ pepper jelly. These were delicious, hot, fresh and the pepper jelly had an EXCELLENT spice to it! Next up were the Crispy Fried Oysters which are cooked then crusted with cornmeal, bacon, other seasonings and served with toast points. These were delicious and literally made me forget I was eating oysters. Next up I tried the fried chicken that came with buttermilk-battered, crispy fried boneless chicken breast & thigh w/ buttery mashed potatoes, tasso ham gravy and collard greens. Absolutely fantastic. Chicken was crispy, juicy, tender and well-seasoned. The mashed potatoes were also moist and left my mouth watering after each bite. Collard greens were fresh and everything I wanted them to be. I also got the chance to try the Chicken & Waffles which comes with 1, 2 or 3 pieces of chicken depending on how hungry you are, a sweet potato waffle and of course syrup while everything is dusted with powdered sugar. Fantastic. The savory and the sweet just balanced themselves so well. My co-worked also let me try his macaroni & cheese which was damn good. Baked so it had that layer of crispy cheese across the top and was so cheesy, so gooey underneath. Value: Macaroni & Cheese Side = $7.00 Don't Tell Me What to Do! (Drink) = $13.00 Original Sazerac (Drink) = $15.00 Baked Oysters = $12.00 Chicken & Waffles (3-Pieces) = $29.00 Fried Chicken Dinner = $27.00 It's not fine-dining pricing, but it's not cheap either. The food and the ambiance are absolutely worth the price point. The quality speaks for itself. In conclusion, I LOVED it here at Screen Door. It's worthy of its great rating, stellar reputation and pricing. I am excited to pay this place a visit again in the future when I make it back here.
