Other stores couldn't help, but when I called Ace, Brett told me to bring the parts in. He went out to my car with me where I had the water feature in my trunk, took the time to match up the fittings, cut a custom piece of hose, and had my fountain working again for only $13.40. This is exactly the kind of knowledgeable, friendly service that's becoming harder to find. It's reminiscent of the old Mom and pop shops that have gotten lost in corporate America. Because of Brett, I'll be coming back to this Ace Hardware for my future projects."

AND, he said it was such a small purchase I could just have them for free. At other times, like when installing a solar system on my van, I've needed many different bits and pieces, different kinds of fasteners and washers, and it's awesome to be able to find just the amount you need (with a few backups) and not pay 50 times at a big box store for what you can get here in the bulk bins. They also fill propane tanks, very handy and helpful. The first time I ever went there, a few years ago, I just wandered the aisles for a long time. Someone asked me if I needed help and I answered "No thanks, I'm just seeing what all you have - and the answer is, EVERYTHING!" Seriously, recently I needed some hair dye and they even had that.
