Whether you're after a wee snacky delicacy for a dinner starter (or dessert!), that essential but hard-to-find exotic ingredient that you simply must-have for a recipe, a designer beer or three, or even a quality malt whisky, Peckhams is the place that you're likely to find it. I usually visit here when my eye is caught by a fancy malt whisky in the window (cunningly displayed right beside their cash machine, the cads!), or when I'm seeking margaritas mix for what has become a Christmas cocktails tradition with us. The West End would be a poorer place without Peckhams. Long may they continue.

I love Peckhams. I'm probably there far too often. They pride themselves on being able to cater to your foodie needs all day long, with pastries and rolls in the morning, a wide range of lunch options and even their own range of freshly made ready meals for dinner. Then of course they have offers for coffee and cake, should you need anything else in between. As far as I'm concerned, this is what delis should be like. They would get five stars out of five too, but the service can be just a little bit on the slow side. I don't mean when they're struggling with the lunchtime rush because that's fair enough. I mean, it can take them a few minutes to realise that you haven't been served, and in serving you some things they can be very slow (don't bother getting butter on your roll in the morning, unless you've got plenty of time on your hands). It's easy to forgive them because they're friendly and helpful and because everything is delicious but if they were just a tiny bit more efficient Peckhams would be perfect.

I just…read morewanted a stickybeak as I wasn't sure what the difference between Delizique and Cafezieque is (I'm still not really sure). At Delizique you can buy cakes/bread to go, and there isn't as many deli options as you would think from the name. The bread and cake is a long a counter as you go in the main door, which is also where people who have eaten in the dining space are paying for their food, and is the main thoroughfare so it gets pretty busy. There was an impressive array of cakes including chocolate brownies, cheesecake and a gluten free option of lemon polenta cake. We went for a brownie and the polenta cake and both were delicious when we scoffed them at home. I'd definitely pop back to check out their cake options again, as well as trying them out for food as I was pretty impressed by Cafezique.

I ordered a latte and thinking I would get a decent amount of coffee, I was left disappointed. You know those small glasses you get for water? That's what the latte came in. A friend and myself, although I had had breakfast a few hours previously, decided to go for pancakes. Now, the flavourings sounded amazing - from something that we believed was going to taste like carrot cake to apple and cinnamon (which is what I went for). First, we waited for ages. When the "pancake" finally arrived, it was a huge skillet type pancake. They looked good and smelled lovely. Unfortunately, upon cutting in, my friend found her's to be completely raw in the centre (think batter), and mine was burnt on the underside - completely burnt. They also, unfortunately, lacked a lot of flavour and were very dry. The raw pancake was replaced with a free and un-raw one, and I ate about three quarters of mine (but I wasn't happy about it). It's also really quite warm in here. The few things that redeem this place is the bread on display (beautiful, beautiful bread) and the veggie sausage roll (which does not look like a sausage roll at all, but taste lovely). I also really like the tree inside the room. The staff is also very friendly.

Both times have been mid-morning on a Saturday, and despite it being pretty busy, we've always managed to get a table. It is quite a small restaurant, seating and tables can feel a bit cramped. Both times we've been seated straight away and service has been prompt both times. The food itself - for breakfast - is very good, however it does feel slightly overpriced for what it is, which is my only gripe. The bread they use is amazing and the french toast here is a really good dish. The coffee is also excellent. Would definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch in the west of Glasgow, but don't expect it to be a cheaper option!

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...

The name says it all. In fact, I remember when this place…read moredidn't actually have a name, it was just that wee kiosk that sold two bacon rolls for a pound. Four (I think) years later, and it's that wee kiosk that sells two bacon rolls for a pound forty, and they've called it the Bacon Butty. It's a tiny newsagents kiosk in the doorway of a tiny train station...except that it isn't really a newsagents; it sells the daily newspapers, yes, but only as an essential accessory to a breakfast roll. Pretty much everything it stocks is a basic that we're all in the mood for at one time or another, and those times are often first thing in the morning, whether on the way to work or on the way home with a hangover. Accept it for what it is, and if you go past this place enough you'll quickly come to grow fond of it and it's utilitarian approach to providing what I consider an essential service; a damn good, damn cheap bacon roll. There's a reason they named the place after them. There's little negative to say about it. The place is what it is. You'll have to wait for your roll as they cook everything to order (hardly a drawback), so bear that in mind if rushing to work. The counter can only really take three people standing at it at any time, and you're right next to the door, so be aware of train passengers coming and going. The selection isn't as wide as, say, a burger van. They do cold rolls, but only a small selection and these are not made to order. And some people have told me that they find the notion of going up to a hole in the wall of a train station and asking a wee glesgae lady for a roll a bit off-putting. This is perhaps understandable, but essentially silly. You'll get asked what you want, if you want sauce with it, and now and again you might even get asked what kind of bread roll you want it in. And then you'll pay buttons for one of the most satisfyingly honest breakfast rolls (or two) in town, and head off towards work or home or wherever you're going, just that little bit happier.
