Still a fan after having eaten here almost a year ago. After a crazy workout, the boyfriend and I…read moredecided to clean up and head over to Gusto & Relish for a bit of breakfast to start off our anniversary morning with a bang. We looked at the menu at a few places around the area, but decided that Gusto & Relish was the winner. Trying not to negate the workout we had, I attempted to order something more on the healthy side. I'm not sure that worked since I ordered the french toast with maple syrup and last minute decided I wanted to try their veggie haggis. I could see the disappointment in my boyfriends heart, being a true lover of haggis, but I do quite like the veggie option when I can get it. He went for scrambled eggs, a fried egg, beans and toast and a coffee. When our food came out, I was a bit put off the way they piled the veggie haggis on top of my sweet french toast, but I ate it first and got on with it. I made my boyfriend try the veggie haggis, and much to my surprise, although he said he'd never actually order it, he didn't hate it. I quite enjoyed it and the massive amount they gave me actually filled me up before I even started on my french toast. The french toast was a massive portion. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but the slices of toast were really thick and perfectly cooked. The wee pot of syrup that came along could have been a bit bigger, but that's just me being a greedy American wanting my french toast covered in syrup. I would have also loved some powdered sugar (icing sugar as they call it here) and it would have been the best. Needless to say, it was still really great and super filling. I ended up giving a piece to my boyfriend unable to finish the three pieces. The boyfriend quite liked his eggs, beans and toast, but didn't enjoy his coffee one bit. I even tried it- it was very acidic and bitter. I wouldn't have been able to drink it, but my boyfriend drank it like a champ. All in all, our breakfast was delicious and the service was great. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed they have a bunch of Scottish goods for sale, which was great to see. For any of you looking for Suki teas, (I've been on the hunt and have found they're only sold online) they sell a few here. Yay!

As a south sider of 6+ years I was totally kicking myself that I'd never been here til last week…read more I've always had the best intentions, but I just never made it. I was in for some food but just made a super quick decision when I saw the menu - Eggs Florentine with added spinach. What can I say, I'm a bit addicted to Eggs Benny and all its variations. This place is really nice inside - classier than your average cafe and pretty cosy. The breakfast tea was delicious and service was warm and friendly. I loved the presentation of the eggs - generous with a lovely rocket salad on the side and an added side which I think was a potato scone (I ate it too quickly to remember properly). The only reason I have to dock a star is that the muffins were burnt in parts which I know sometimes happen but my god I hate a burnt muffin. The rest of the dish was just lovely though and I really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and as I said, the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to have a huge deli section (as mentioned in some other reviews) but that wouldn't put me off going back for lunch or breakfast. Also, it looks like they don't have a customer toilet but if you ask the staff, they'll point you behind the counter and past the kitchen down the stairs.

Warning: this review contains gratuitous cheese references…read more Deli Zola recently opened in the place of Deli 1901 and after reading Debs M's review I just knew I had to get along there, quick smart. The boards outside show a few interesting specials to tempt you inside - rose lamb hotpot with garlic bread, vegetable stew as well as some breakfast-type options of scrambled eggs. Inside it's nicely decorated - not too over the top with the Frenchness but there's a lovely chandelier, loads of seating, and a generally pretty cosy vibe. There's a deli section which has a chilled stacked with cheeses and meat, as well as pre-made croissants and baguettes. There's also a shelf of jarred French delights like marinated garlic, truffled mushrooms, terrine, goose fat etc, plus fresh breads, quiches and Christmas hampers. As you can probably tell, they've managed to pack a lot into this deli! I was keen to try the Croque Monsieur so asked to get one takeaway. They offered to heat it up for me but seeing as I wasn't going straight home I got it cold. They wrapped it in foil for me and gave me heating instructions which was handy. While I was waiting for my sandwich I gave into the temptation on the counter and grabbed a couple of pastries for £1.50 each (pastel de nata). Now - confession time - I did actually buy two of these and one was meant to be for my husband, but I ate them both. Woops. They were just divine, the crispy caramelised top was too much for me to resist. And I don't even have a sweet tooth. I also got a wedge of Gruyere (who can resist a cheese counter?) which wasn't bad value at £19/kg, and off I went on my way. I warmed up my sandwich in the oven when I got home and can confirm that it was just as delicious as it looks - cheesy, creamy, crispy and delicious. Yum. I want another one right now actually.

Then when I discovered they sell one of my favourite French dishes ever, the humble Croque Monsieur, I knew I had to get myself down there. Popped in for a flying visit today and I definitely wasn't disappointed - it was bigger than I was expecting and was definitely a nice, cosy place to come into out of the cold! It was pretty busy considering it was about 3pm on a Sunday and had such a lovely atmosphere, really chilled out and just seemed like a good place to relax. I went up to the counter to place my order (to take away) and was told it'd be 4 minutes, nice and specific! I had a wee nosey while I was waiting and all the produce looks so very tasty. They had French cheeses and saucissons, as well as quiches, pastries, bread...among other things - mmm! The staff were very attentive and friendly, can't fault the service at all. The Croque Monsieur itself was totally delicious! I was determined to make it home before I ate it but I ended up scoffing half of it when I got in my car cause it smelled so good!! They also had the Moulin Rouge soundtrack playing when I was in which I loved, that's a plus for me! Definitely going to go back (hopefully sooner rather than later!) so I'll write an update on what the sit-in service is like too - can't imagine it'll be bad though!

This is something, which even I in my hunting out of new, emerging places (for this read: good reviews and interesting concepts; but in reality up themselves, expensive and out of business in six months) have not come across before. So for this factor alone, it's worth having a nosey and seeing what you make of it. They do have some yummy organic treats in here, some a little bit different and some which any foodie will have encountered at some point before. I say this, because of my experience of working in a deli/roll shop in Pollokshields for a year and witnessing the rise of organic product - especially in the pickled, dried and erm, similar forms. Meanwhile, they have a small but very nice selection of flowers on offer. Though, I would rather purchase a pot plant, so don't really rate these with too much enthusiasm. The staff in here have got to be one of the best things are this place. They are very friendly, pleasant and chatty. It's clear they know their stock very well and also have a good understanding and knowledge of their wider market area. The prices are not to bad for some products considering they are organic, but I still find them a little too much. Although, this is coming from a part-time (and temporarily) employed student.

Harrington's Restaurant is a real gem of a place! It is…read moresituated on the Main Street of the, not so very attractive, Harthill! A small eatery, the decor is very attractive and the good use of mirrors makes one feel it is larger! The tables (around 10 I think) are placed at a very comfortable distance from each other, allowing for privacy and intimacy whilst dining! It is run by a man and there are only waiters serving it appears. We went for high tea arriving at 5pm. The menu was excellent with plenty of choice! All four of us opted for the steak pie and we were truly in for a treat! Helpings were plentiful without being O.T.T. The food and the plates were piping hot! The meat was beautifully tender; the flavour of the the beef and gravy was gorgeous and topped with oodles of delicious, buttery puff pastry. This excellent pie was served with carrots, garden peas, boiled and roast potatoes (all very tasty and expertly cooked). The staff were very professional and asked if we would care for some tea, coffee, scones and cakes after our meal. We did so and thoroughly enjoyed home baked current scones with butter and our choice of cakes from a large tray brought to our table! The ladies' was very hygenic and feminine to fault! We chose to drink iced water with our meal. For all of this it cost a total of £38 only! Harrington's deserves to go big but, perhaps, the owner prefers to keep it small and homely and it would be spoiled otherwise! Tourists in Glasgow or Edinburgh would love this restaurant, I'm sure as would local people! Apologies that I could not find the location on the Qype Map but the telephone number is provided if you're interested! It's very easy to get to by car and is off the M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Just take the Harthill cut off (c. 20mins drive from city centres). A huge thumbs up to Harrington's Restaurant!
