I don't normally venture into branches of Pret A Manger but on this occasion I made an exception. It was characteristically freezing in Glasgow, I'd forgotten my jumper and I was in desperate need of some hot food and somewhere warm to sit and eat it. Since it was a Saturday almost everywhere was packed with shoppers having their lunch. I found that this branch, slightly off the main shopping streets, actually had a couple of tables spare.
I was a bit disapointed that more hot food options weren't available. They have one or two paninis in a hot cabinet and a couple of pasta and stew dishes that you can take to the coutner to warm up. The rest is cold sandwiches, snacks and salads (although I believe soups are an option too). Perhaps they have more options but they'd sold out on the busy day.
In the end I went for a superfood kale and cauliflower macaroni cheese. It was actually really good and totally warmed me up. Plus, because of the kale and cauli it made me feel like I was being healthy whilst eating mac and cheese. Service was fine, although a bit slow to clear tables, but it was super busy.
Pret serves it's purpose and serves it well. I'd drop by again, especially if I was near Queen Street Station and wanted a quick, cheap lunch for one. Otherwise, though, there are more exciting places in Glasgow to eat. read more
