As the years go by, shopping in Lidl is slowly losing it's stigma, and people are beginning to…read morerealise that as well as a range of dubiously cheap produce, they also have a number of cracking buys that you can't get anywhere else. The German influence is apparent in much of the good stuff, with rostbratwurst, roll mop herrings and gluhwein making an appearance on the shelves. It's in the confectionary however, where Lidl makes it's mark as a true powerhouse of budget shopping. Their sweets are quite frankly outstanding, with loads and loads of variations of chocolate, Haribo, and these little chewy bars called "Fritt" that come mit vitamin c. It still has an unusually quiet atmosphere and I get the impression the staff have to put up with military-style working conditions, but I'm more than happy to turn a blind eye to the odd human rights violation if that's what it takes to deliver Kinder choclolate at these prices.

Bargain prices for top quality products, it doesn't get much better than that. To be fair, Lidl isn't as glamorous as other popular food stores and sometimes looks like it's in need of a bit of TLC. What Lidl lacks in beauty it makes up for it with the quality of its products. My favourite time at Lidl is Weihnachten, when I can head down for a couple of piping hot bottles of Glühwein and some traditional gingerbread Lebkuchen. Mmm! This particular store is always bustling and I'm pleased to see that Lidl has many more fans.

I find the security staff intimidating and rude I think one guy there has mummy issues and should really have counselling and not be taking his anger out on customers who do no wrong. The self service section is a joke as half of them have not been switched on and the one l used made me feel as if l just won the jackpot on a fruit machine in a pub, how can a shop justify paying a customer 62p change in 2p pieces. Ice cream that has been defrosted is being re frozen and sold again when l reported the issue to the duty manager he did nothing. Tesco sort yourselves out!

Generally these days, if I'm in the City Centre and my shopping list consists of much more than eggs, milk and bread, this is where I go. Their range is just that bit wider than that of their nearest neighbours and that makes all the difference. I don't want to have to visit four city centre supermarkets to find cornflower, for example, so I just start here. The other advantage of a slightly larger store is that they have more price point options than your average convenience store. It still won't be the cheapest possible shop, but for at least some items they'll have the "budget", the "regular" and the "luxury" options to choose from. They also have space to run just a few more promotions and, as they insist upon reminding us, every little helps.

A little reconfiguring of the store give more room around tills please I would say that the it's due to this it lost a star and slow service at the till area, even using the self checkout .... You have to wait on the same poor server that doing all the rest of the customers to come over and hit the screen to say that bottle of paracetamol you need instead of chocolate is ok to buy

I've seen at weekends like melon or even fresh asparagus for 20p. Sainsbury's are heading to the route of having little staff and more of those awkward self service counters. Because I always go here after work and it closes early (i think it's opening hours reflect the surrounding office buildings), things start getting reduced at about 5 and I finish at 5 so always grab a bargain. I picked up half a swede, a small bag of new potatoes and a cauliflower all for the princely sum of 90p! They didn't have any vegan butter which I also planned to pick up but I will survive without it...for now. This place recently got self scanners which amuse me because as usual there was a man telling everyone to come use them but only 1 person on the actual checkout and a huge queue. Self scanners annoy me.

It's usually been pretty clean when I've dropped in and I've never had trouble finding what I'm looking for, except when it's simply not something they stock. The staff are pretty great and get through the queues quickly. It's fine as a convenience store if you need to pick up a few things when you're in the area.
