Most of the food is good. I would recommend the Mac and cheese. They also have nice deserts. Just do not get the soup. I have worked there previously so I know how they make it. This isn't even a spiteful review. I've tried it three times. Each time I have gotten unbearably sick. And i know other people who have gotten sick. I'm not saying you will get sick every time. But if you know you have a weak stomach. I wouldn't take your chances. But other than that. This places is pretty good. Just stay away from the soup. read more

Not from the area (from So Cal) and here for business. While staying down the street, I was looking for a good to-go spot and came across Newk's on Yelp. Kinda hard to find if you're not from the area, but once I found it, it was well worth it! Especially since there were thunderstorms (9/10/19). It started with the excellent customer experience from the two young men working in the front (sorry didn't get your names), but very engaging and helpful with a great conversation! Best of luck to these two gentlemen who attend Middle Tennessee State University...you both are a great example of what customer service should be! Good place to eat, everyone is always so friendly and I love the fact that you can grab your own pickles, banana peppers, breadsticks etc. The food doesn't make you too full where you cant move. Fill you up just enough to satisfy your tummy. Never been disappointed with anything I get here. But everytime I want to try their coconut cake it's never available. I'm quite fond of this chain however of the locations I have dined at this is my least favorite. The staff had a large catering job the day of my visit which they utilized very chaotically over half the dining room in Spartacus areas not cordoning off one area for a staging area. Even the staff that was assigned to working the restaurant guests were preoccupied minding the business of what was going on with the loading of the catering order. As far my lunch it was delicious I do enjoy trying new items and I very much love their soups! On this particular day I had the spinach and feta soup... fantastic!! My favorite by far is the crawfish and pepper jack soup. I had the half chicken sandwich that has the Alabama white sauce that was probably the best version of the Alabama white sauce I have had in a restaurant outside of AL. I typically don't order chicken sandwiches but the white sauce did pique my interest and I will certainly order that sandwich again! If you haven't dined at a Newks before I suggest you give this chain a shot especially if you are fond of other soup/sandwich/salad chains Newks is by far at the top of the list for being the best. I've never been to Newks before but their first impression was a good one. I had the pimiento cheese sandwich with coleslaw. The sandwich was so yummy the Cole slaw was ok, but I'm more of a sweet slaw person and this wasn't as sweet. My daughter got the kids cheese pizza which looked really good and she said it was good too. I think it was cause she even ate the crusts which doesn't usually happen. The staff was nice and it was nice they had a little table with breadsticks and crackers to give the kiddo (and grown ups lol) something to snatch while you waited. Overall great first trip. Will be coming back. Thanks. Update. The last 2 times I've been here the foods still great, but the bathroom STINKS! I went I. To wash my hands today and thought I was going to vomit. This is what was served to us tonight for a kids grilled cheese sandwich. $4.00 for this...pitiful. I actually opened up the sandwich to show how minimal the cheese was. I then spoke with the manager who's first response was, "That sandwich was made to company specs." After a few minutes, he offered to refund our money for the "sandwich" which I gladly accepted. We came in while out shopping at the Avenue. We had to look for a spot that had good soup due to one of the kids just got braces today. The girls at the counter were super friendly and accommodating. They let us try the different soups offered. We ended up with the Lobster & Crab bisque and the Crawfish Pepperjack. So delicious!! This used to be a great place to eat. Now they just don't care. They were rude when I ordered because they saw a team coming in and weren't happy. I ordered the Ultimate salad which I've had many times and love. They brought me something totally different with ham and none of the ingredients in the Ultimate. I took it back and explained it wasn't what I ordered. The guy took it and never apologized just took it. Another guy brought another salad, still not the Ultimate, they just took the ham out and put chicken and passed it off as the Ultimate!! He had a very bad attitude. I will not eat here again!! Love me some Newk's! I discovered Newk's when my company ordered lunch from here, and I fell in love. I'm not too much of a sandwich person, but I love Newk's sandwiches. My favorite is the Club. 99% of the time, I am ordering this sandwich. The other 1% of the time, I am ordering one of their pizzas. Yum! Their pimento bacon Mac and cheese is also amazing. What I like about Newk's is the atmosphere and the free thin breadsticks! I always get the combo with either soup/salad or salad/sandwich. Make sure to ask for dressings on the side. The chicken chili was great. Very similar to a Jason's Deli. ANd you always get a great to-go cup with a drink, great way to stock up on reusable cups if you're on a budget, haha! Careful though, if you are on a diet, make sure to check out their nutritional menu as many items you think are "healthy" are definitely not. The pizzas are the worst for caloric intake. Love this location of Newk's (Love Newks in general!). But this is in a really convenient spot, right off of 24 in the avenue. I've been here several times and even though it's busy, they always get through the line quickly. I usually opt for a pepperoni artisan pizza, because what's more delicious than that! But if I'm feeling like being healthy, then I get their kale Cesar salad. It's delicious. Kale, caesar, parmesan and croutons. If you want some meat with you, you can ask them to put chicken on the top for a little extra. The last time I went, I tried their strawberry cake. It was so fresh and wonderful. I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal here. It's a great place if you're looking for something good, but simple. Soups, sandwiches, homemade pizzas, and awesome thin bread sticks. Price is a little on the high side for what you get. The atmosphere is comfortable, I especially like the covered patio. Service has always been great. Sadly, I are at the one located in the Avenues with my work associates. I really wanted to enjoy my experience here, but the staff made it impossible. I am not sure if they were not staffed appropriately or if the folks on duty just didn't care. All of the trash cans in the facility were at maximum capacity. In addition there were so many dirty tables the patio was the only option for seating. We found one clean table and when our food was dropped that was it. Not any vocality from the runner. My colleague and I had the shrimp Louie salad. Yuck, both of ours were not good. The dressing was just bizarre. As more people came out to the patio, everyone was piling their dishes on one empty table and the birds were having a grand time. It was gross. read more

It was my first time going to Newks last year and now I find myself craving it all the time. This restaurant is full of soup, salad, sandwich, and pizza options. In addition to that they have some tasty looking cakes on display, but I have yet to try one. It's really good for combos like soup and salad or salad and sandwich. You can basically combine the things that you want in a smaller sized portion. All of the things that I've tried from there have been delicious. I recommend the vegetarian club sandwich, it's one of the best veggie sandwiches I've ever had. Lobster & crab bisque soup is also excellent! There is literally no explaining how good this restaurant is. It's clean and has great unique options. Everything there is flavorful and restaurant has a good atmosphere. The only thing is that they need a bigger building! They're so popular and are located right in the Avenue. I had the Debbie or Debra or something like that pizza and it was the best pizza I've ever had (and pizza isn't even their main thing) I also had a kids ham and cheese melt that was like 20x better than subway or jimmy johns. It's all good there. I would suggest not going on weekends or right on lunch or dinner rush if you don't like crowded places. Also drinks come in cute reusable cups. However, I find the prices a little stiff for a casual lunch place. For two choose twos meals and two drinks will cost you about $30 for a light lunch. Pretty pricey for such a small meal. We went in today and the lady at the register seemed quite annoyed to be there. Did not seem like she knew how to talk to customers. Kind of just talked through her breath and seemed frustrated with every customer. We have dined at this Newks weekly, since they opened. Usually it is very nice but on Saturday morning (1/7) it was really kinda gross. My husband and I always opt to not take up space in the center section or booths, and therefore we typically sit at the counter and watch the staff make salads. First and foremost, no one was wearing gloves. This was unusual and the hubs noticed immediately. What seemed like a manager was helping staff by ladling soups and making salads, she wasn't wearing gloves either. Two young ladies were cutting and boxing individual slices of cake. Neither were gloved (and they were manhandling that stuff). If good hand-washing is happening, maybe it's different but people were coughing and handling brooms, cleaning towels, trays.... Second, they were chopping to-go salads and left the plastic lids in the lettuce bin. In fact, one of the lids remained in one of the two lettuce bins for the length of our meal. It made it all seem really sloppy. Third, when one of the staff went to refill the lettuce bin (Yes, I'm sick of typing 'lettuce bin!'), he put this huge plastic box filled with lettuce onto the floor, lifted it up, and sat it across the bin, with the corners dug into the lettuce that was already there. Yuck, floor lettuce! Fourth, the entire salad section was a wreck. It was 11:20 a.m. How did they wreck it to that level so early? We left at this point and I wanted to mention it to the manager but she was in the back talking to the staff. Maybe she was fussing about the nastiness? I hope! Also, the restaurant was only half full due to snow being on the ground, so let's not assume the place was crazy busy and things were merely "overlooked." On and good note, there is often a young lady making salads who has sound wave tattoos on her wrists (my hubs asked her about them) and she is always gloved, efficient, and maintains her work area. Props to her!!! She needs to instruct everyone else. She was the reason why we usually sat at the bar/salad-counter. read more
