I was at Newk's this past Sunday with my family. I witnessed an employee smart off to a man waiting on his food. Minutes later, I heard a loud noise. The employee had slammed down food in front of the customer's son and tossed silverware onto the table before mouthing something to the customer. The customer became pretty upset at the employee (and rightfully so) and hollered to get his attention. My wife and uncle couldn't help but listen as the first female manager told the customer he was being rude and making fun of the employee. She told him he was the one who was "in the wrong." We sat in disbelief until another female manager (thankfully) took over the situation. This time, we were able to hear what happened. The customer's wife didn't receive a number for her food or her son's so the husband was standing where the food comes out. The employee walked by and the husband said "I believe that's our food" to which the employee replied sarcastically "um, no it's not." The husband watched as the employee tried to deliver the food to another table. The couple told the employee this isn't their food. Turns out it was his food after all. However, the employee walked back past the customer into the kitchen with the food. The guy's wife says to her husband "I thought that was our food." Employee comes back out with the food to deliver it and the husband says to his wife "hey, I was right, this is our food." The employee drops the child's sandwich down on the table, whatever the wife was eating, and then the silverware. He tells the husband "don't act like that" to which the guy says "excuse me?" The employee says "you heard me. Don't act like that", assuming the customer was talking to him. The husband, who is really upset now, is ignored by the smart-ass employee who walked back into the kitchen as the guy hollered at him. Then a manager got involved who accused the customer of being in the wrong. My family and I just looked at each other. We couldn't believe what we were hearing, especially my uncle, who is a veteran. The customer was in the right and according to my uncle, that punk employee needed a hands-on lesson in manners. I guess he didn't expect the guy to say anything back to him. The worst thing about this experience was the manager. I've never seen a manager treat anyone that rude before, never. Thankfully, a second manager (and more seasoned) stepped in and we never saw the employee again for the time we were there. We left before the family did but I'm guessing the employee was either sent home or sent to the back to wait until the family left. Either way, my family and I will not be back to any Newk's establishment, especially this one, and my wife will be using Jason's Deli for her office's catering needs. Just can't believe the way it was handled and behavior involved. Newk's must not think that much of their customers at this location. Oh, the food was good. There's the one star earned. read more
