The first time I saw a Newk's I was in South Carolina and I was very interested in the menu. Unfortunately I already had other plans and was not able to try Newk's. The other day when I was in MD I was excited to see a Newk's and would finally be able to try Newk's. I had trouble deciding between the varieties of Mac & Cheese and pizzas. I finally decided on the chicken Alfredo pizza and asked for no arugula. The pizza took about 10 minutes to make and looked pretty good and the taste was great! The goat cheese was the star of the pizza. The chicken was high quality, tender, and plentiful. The crust was thin, wasn't burnt, or undercooked. I definitely want to go back maybe for the Mac & Cheese next time. read more

I have driven by this place many a time but never thought to go in. My wife decided it would be a nice place to take the kids. We went there and ALL i saw were adds for this cake. Strawberry cake(My favorite) so immediately I knew it would be something I'd like to try. We decided on our orders placed them and before everything was paid for I asked the young lady about the cake. There were 4 cakes on display but not a Strawberry cake which was odd given all the adds. She turns around and looks in a floor cooler(idk what its called) and and quickly said "we dont have any left". I was surprised and asked "Why not its all over the walls and makes me want it, great adds" jokingly of course. She wasn't feeling my humor. We received our food, I ordered pizza(Sicilian) but the toppings had soaked through the pizza and it was as if there was no dough there at all. Wasn't happy with it. For some reason I decided to o and ask about the cake again and this time another lady says "yes of course we have some" and I reply "well I was told you didn't and I wanted to order red velvet as a substitute". She looks in the EXACT same place and pulls out the cake. So i got the cake and it was decent lol.. much better than the pizza. I recommend orderings the Salads or sandwiches. read more

I was quite pleased with my first experience at Newk's Eatery. I've been wanting to try it for quite some time and after hearing some ladies from church mention it, I had to make a visit to Newk's a priority. I ended up getting one of the combos: a cup of corn and crab chowder and half of a Newk's Q sandwich. I got my order to go and enjoyed it at home. The corn and crab chowder didn't seem to have much crabmeat in it but was still very tasty nonetheless. The soup was topped off with croutons which was a nice complement. The Newk's Q sandwich was delicious. One of the most important factors to a good sandwich is good bread and you'll get that here. To make things even better, they have a station with breadsticks, croutons, pickles, and other toppings to add that special touch to your meal. I'm looking forward to returning to try the pizza, Mac n cheese, and everything else! read more

Second rate Panera. 2 stars because the cashier was very rude and the take out order I received was wrong, probably because the cashier was so disinterested. I needed to coordinate a lunch outing for my company and it was decided that a picnic with box lunches would work best. Having been a frequent diner at the Waugh Chapel Newks I knew they had a great menu variety. I reached out to Tom Saia the owner of Newks and told him what we were thinking. He worked with me directly to make sure we had a full and current menu to work with. On the day of the outing, I was able to pick up the 20+ box lunches that his team had prepared. Each lunch was labeled with a name and each was prepared perfectly with each person's personal preference exactly right. Everyone mentioned to me about how delicious the salads, sandwiches and desserts were. The food was fresh and everything was well packaged. The food was ready on time and an employee helped to carry the multiple bags to my car (excellent service). Tom Saia was on top on everything ensuring that all our needs were met. I would HIGHLY recommend the Newks at Waugh Chapel to anyone. read more

So I love that they have a fancy condiment type bar at the front...croutons, crackers, amazingly delicious pickles, hot sauces, etc. And I think their food is pretty good, comparable to panera. But I also think its pretty pricey for what you get. Overall its a great local alternative to panera and I'll be back but I wouldn't rave about it. read more

This café located in the Waugh Chapel S.C was a nice surprise. It is similar to the setup at a Panera or Atlanta Bread but with a better variety of cuisine: primarily in soup, sandwiches and salads. The portions along with the very reasonable prices were really a surprise. We ordered two salads and one soup to share (which I am glad we did) . We are not very big eaters, but these salads were huge. Probably twice the size of their competitors (at least) and they were very good. Fresh , delicious with a good balance of ingredients . The soup was also very large. It was in a large bowl and if I had to guess, I would say it was at least about 24 oz. Enough for two people for sure. That too was very well- prepared. The service was very good. Our only issue with this restaurant is the atmosphere. The décor/ amenities are a bit dated and not very stimulating. Regardless, that doesn't bother us a bit and we look forward to going back . We highly recommend. read more

I love Newk's! A favorite and an old standby, never disappoints. The pizzas are awesome and so is the Cobb salad, and the Mac-n-cheese, oh! And the chicken tortilla soup.. Actually it's all good so I won't bore readers going on longer. We usually order a pizza and a Cobb salad and share them. The drink selection is extensive and you can get beer and wine if you like! The atmosphere is nice and always clean, including the restrooms which is important. Just go, you won't be sorry! read more

They gave me some sort of mayo based sauce instead of BBQ..but to their defense I was in a hurry and did not check the receipt or the food before taking off. Located in Waugh chapel near Pier 1 I decided to stop in and finally try this place last time I was out shopping. Typical walk up and order before grabbing your drink and table number operation, Newks seemed well attended by customers and staff alike. After ordering you're directed to grab from an assortment of condiments to include pickles and breadsticks. Admittedly I found this kind of an odd offering but hey, something to munch on while we waited. A few minutes after we filled our cups large enough to bathe in our food arrived. I had ordered the Italian while the girlfriend ordered the chicken salad. The Italian seemed to have good ingredients to include great bread but it was so overloaded with vinegar sauce that it almost destroyed my taste buds to eat. I love vinegar as much as the next person but this was overkill. That line from Aliens came to mind "We have to nuke (Newk?) it from orbit...its the only way to be sure..." The chicken salad was very good and tasted like the ingredients were well put together. The sides of pasta salad and black bean salad were rather unimpressive. Not a great first go but it was promising enough that I'll give it another go before I discount it entirely. read more

Found this place by accident when my wife and I moved to the area and were looking for a nice restaurant to sit down and eat. The Eatery is very clean with a very friendly staff. When you walk in, the board to your left is very visible with all the items that you can order. I'd have to say for a 1st timer, the list is a little overwhelming, but once you find what you want, you'll be happy. Fresh bread, good sandwiches, decent flat-breads and okay salads . This was my second visit here. And this week at that. For the second time I had the Ultimate salad with ranch dressing. The salad is huge. I ate there this time since I had company. This time they mixed the salad dressing in the salad which I wasnt really fond of but oh well. The salad was still good. I am a glutton for punishment so I also tried the macaroni and cheese. It was cheesy but it didnt have much flavor. Dont think I will be letting that again. The outdoor seating was cool. I asked for water expecting to pay for a bottle but the girl handed me a nice size courtesy cup to get water from the water container. There were fresh lemons to add as well. Today was my first time here (at Newk's in general). So you walk in and order, then seat yourself. The menu is directly on the wall to your right as soon as you walk in, which made for very confusing fun trying to figure out who was in line and who was trying to figure their meal while inching closer to the register to hold their coveted spot in line. Didnt have a clue what the menu fare was, so I politely used my 20/20 vision from a distance...couldnt find the "magherita pizza" that had chicken, and I was forced to make a quick decision of the bbq chkn pizza. The girl at the register said it would cost more to get the magherita with the chkn, but I cant imagine they dont have a pizza like that-maybe she didnt know. The food is definitely quick, as other members in my party had salads that came in bowls large enough to hold a cooked turkey in (slight exaggeration...maybe not). My pizza seemed okay...I was thinking about how good &pizza wouldve been the whole time. The cup for a drink was like a "supersize" at mcdonalds...didnt need all that, but for over $2 for a plastic cup, im sure I will grow a plant out of it, or use it to catch my next trout when I go fishing... Overall, I had one item so my thoughts are limited by sample size. Would I come back? Nice place to grab a quick meal. Fresh and fast I would recommend Newk's Eatery. Give it a go and see why YOU think. I've had the roast beef sub, bar-b-q chicken pizza, and soups. The only complaint I have was the roast beef was a little rare for me. Some people like rare roast beef. I don't mind a little pink. But this was beyond that. This is a go to for Friday carry out. In my mind it's a better version of Panera. Lots of healthy options plus made to order pizza and subs. Something for everybody, plus big collectible cups. I guess "collectible" isn't the best term, you won't be taking your collection on antiques roadshow in 20 years but they are reusable. Excellent customer service! Food is always good here but on my last visit, they really out-did themselves. My sister was visiting from out of town and ordered a salad. A friend told me about Newk's, I never heard of it and decided to find it. The first time a few weeks ago I couldn't locate it. Yesterday though Jackpot!! I found it and WOW!! the food was fresh, full of flavor, the Spicy Italian sandwich mmm, the pepperoni and sausage pizza is a pizza lovers dream, the crust was perfect, the sauce perfect the right size for one person (I killed it) the ultimate salad OMG! that 5 cheese macaroni and cheese to a Mac& cheese lover oh oh oh! Great food. I was going to take a picture but I ate it all before I could get my phone out. Way more food than you could get elsewhere for the cost! Very enjoyable atmosphere and very nice people!!! Get the half sandwich and soup combo. Might I add, some people say it expensive for a deli sandwich... My thoughts: if you get just a Ham sandwich, then sure it's too much for a $3 meal, but I encourage people to try the signature sandwiches and they have many soups to choose from to properly pair with your taste! This place is the bomb. My family's go-to. One of our first choices when we want to eat out. Every time we have family visit, we take them here and they rave about their pizza and how good it is, (no matter the kind they get). I will talk about the one weird incident where the cashier was definitely on something. I was wondering if I'd spot some over-dilated eyes if she took her fake contacts out. I can usually always tell when my server/cashier is high at any establishment; I can smell the dank. I don't ever mind, you do you, AS LONG AS YOU DONT GET MY ORDER MESSED UP, which is why this situation has to be mentioned because I paid extra because she had no idea what she was talking about. Hopefully that cashier is gone now. If the situation happens again I'll tell management because they don't deserve an employee like that.
