I can't supermarket on 8th Avenue that has free parking available for its customers. Although, the parking lots are often full on weekends, so I up leaving leaving and going to another market. I think that their items are a little more pricey than most things around the area as well. However, I would shop here because of the free parking when there is space. it's conveniently one block away from the train station. It's also usually very organized And easy to fine things. For starters, it's cleaner. Much cleaner than it's predecessor. Labels have more English than before (#1) and dare I say the produce section has been beefed up slightly. The shopping experience has definitely been made easier, but that's not to say that the prices and selection are better. Nearby markets that are bigger still have the upper edge. The staff might be different in looks but the same with interaction, which is generally not helpful. Especially when the weekend crowds roll in, it might be easier to shout along with the employees in trying to find what you need. I'm not sure when they changed the name from Hong Kong Supermarket to New York Mart, but it's just as fantastic as the old one. Incredible selection, awesome deals ($1.50 for 3 Chinese preserved sausages? Whaaaat? So cheap! $5.00 for two boxes of Japanese curry? More, please!) They have all the normal Chinese goods, but they've also branched out into other Asian ingredients - banana ketchup (Filipino), pandan extract (Malaysian), gochujang (Korean). Fruit is plentiful and varied; you can get mangosteens and durians, even though they're out of season! Fantastic :D There are a lot of cashiers and I've never had a problem with the checkout line. Formerly known as the Hong Kong SuperMarket. New York Mart is a big improvement, looks new, and cleaner. It still the smallest supermarket around 8th avenue. They kept the parking lot which is a plus, but still is smaller than most supermarkets. It maybe difficult to get a spot on weekends. Some of the staff can be rude and impatient at times, so finding help maybe a hassle. Fellow shoppers can be rude as well as they will push their way through to get what they want. They have your fruits outside the supermarket. Inside in the middle of supermarket are your vegetables. To the left you have your fresh seafood and meats. The back of the supermarket, you have your frozen goods, dairy products, drinks, candy, condiments, packed noodles, etc. You will find most of your Chinese and Asian products in this supermarket. Good prices and good deals. Check the circulars. It is a good supermarket to go to if you know what you are getting and know where it is. Asian Market places... The smell...the sights..the sounds...the crowdedness of people... This is definitely a very asian place...Just expect to be: - cut in front of in line by oblivious people - rushed to get through the line - cashiers are not friendly people ... So after eating at Mister Hot Pot down the street, they gave us a free melon ice bar which I completely fell head-over-heels for! SO my inner fatboy was nagging me to buy more! I thought "this place might have them" and sure enough, my dreams came true. I bought a box of the melon ice bars, and noted the additional flavors offered: banana, mango, and a couple others. Those are the order in which I will try the others. So I walked around a bit because I love Asian supermarkets. I wound up buying fried tofu squares (1.59$! for about 20 - they also have HUGE tofu blocks for 1.50-2.00, I pay 4$ elsewhere for less!), and a couple of assorted teas. They take ATM at the register, so checkout was no problem! The store is large, pretty clean although not very well organized. Their tea selection could be greater (I was hoping for whole or at least loose tea leaves). They also have a large parking lot. Great store! Cheap veggies too. I did not look at the meat section, since I am a vegetarian but if the rest of the store is any indication as to the price of their meat, I'd say it's a sure bet! read more

This supermarket took the place of the old Hong Kong Supermarket that used to be a mainstay of Brooklyn Chinatown. But anyone who's watched the neighborhood change knows that it was a sinking ship (especially after Great Wall Supermarket and then Fei Long opened/relocated). In any case, it looks a lot nicer and cleaner inside. Fake wood paneling on things. The shelving is cleaner. Signage is more clear. Prices are about the same or better than it used to be, at least enough to compete with Fei Long. Also not crazy crowded like the other markets can get. read more

This supermarket has been one of the first on 8th avenue. Yes it is the smallest compared to others around the area, such as Fei Long Supermarket, but it does have all your essentials that you need (poultry, meat, veggies, fruits, etc) at an affordable price. Personally, I think it's cheaper than Fei Long! Yes the customers within the area are rude as hell and yes the cashier ladies are usually looking dreadful, but I'm usually coming here to get what I want and leave. Not looking for a great customer service experience. If you don't speak Chinese, I suggest you bring a picture of what you want, so maybe someone can help you find what you need. If not then you are just going to have to walk aisle by aisle to find what you need, because the people working here barely speaks English. This place used to be Hong Kong Supermarket and it was the old-fashion market then. Now they upgraded or was brought by another management and now called New York Mart. Now it is starting to look like a regular grocery supermarket. Stuff is fine. No complaints. You have all the necessities from fruit on the outside and then a mini bakery section on the left side as you walk in. Walk a bit farther is the candies and then dairy aisle. On the left of the store, there are tons of vegetables with signs translated into English and Chinese. Walk towards the left a bit more is the seafood and meat section. I remember once in the morning, a FJ worker yelling and screaming at a customer and then at the end there was a brawl. I think they have to do background checks on who they hired. But as usual on 8th ave, if you are a freind of a friend, you're hired...just beware of your surroundings. read more

They have weekly deals which I love and the people that put out the produce are really rude they don't even know the word excuse me or um coming your way but whatever at least the stuff there is cheap and reasonable that's fine by me can't always have a perfect supermarket.. They give out free samples on the weekends in each three corners and every time I try it I end up buying something shows how good they run there business.. A large market with all your needs and they even sell food by the entrance. They sell so many different kinds of cup noodles and ramen so I suggest you go ahead and try something new or get your usual. I miss the old HK supermarket since its been there before I was born and it's part of my childhood asking my mom to go every Saturday. But this place is pretty good too. The new place is cleaner and seems more spacious. The prices are also cheaper and yes even cheaper than Fei Long and definitely Great Wall. This is my fav Chinese supermarket in town. Though it is small but contains lots of great stuff. Reasonable price and good quality. Shop assistants are nice and friendly and readily to help. I spent a great time shopping here when I lived in Brooklyn during the summer. Now I moved to Rego park Queens. Once I was so sad that I missed New York Mart. But! I found out this is a chain store. There is one in Jackson Heights. Awesome! I feel relieved. Life seems so great. read more

Came here before they changed it to New York Mart. I still come here but I tend to buy less items now. They have a cooked food section but it is not that well made and they rip you off. I don't worry about having the bone on the roasted pig, but they measured the meat, I paid and they decided to keep the bone part (the bones aren't light) when I didn't notice... TWICE! They accept foodstamp for these but it's not worth it unless you don't really care about the price and such. read more

Bad, very bad! The service at this place is terrible. The meat cutters don't look at you and to make matters worse, they serve the people that come AFTER you. We were waiting there for 10 mins and the people simply IGNORED us. The shoppers are RUDE to come in and just cut the line. They must come from Mainland China. And the supermarket is the smelliest place I've shopped at. They haven't cleaned the place for like 2 years. There is a stench everytime I go to the seafood section. If you compare prices, you will tell they charge 50 cents to two dollars more expensive than other supermarkets for household items (glass containers, mugs, etc.). I don't know how long they are going to last there...I overheard some employees saying that because they weren't Wanchao they were getting paid less and no tips were being passed to them...
