Save yourself and just go to the one on Penn Ave. We have gave this establishment plenty of tries and they can never just get it right. The standard sandwich is a bacon & egg, you have to ask to add cheese. I specifically order a bacon egg, no cheese and they always put cheese on it. You can ask for additions such a salt, pepper, ketchup and they will even write it on the wrapper but still not put it on the sandwich. And don't even bother trying to go get it fixed because if there's a line they won't even look at you if you try to come to the front or stand off to the side and get their attention. The staff there never seem happy and you always seem like a bother especially with the older lady who would rather stand there and count the tip jar than take your order. It's a shame because the sandwiches are good but if you want exactly what you ordered, just go to the Penn Ave location. read more

I had a very bad experience at the Kenhorst, PA location back in March. It was more about the poor service, than about the bagels. After giving their businesses a few more tries, I can share that I prefer the Sinking Spring, PA location. The service and hours are better, and most importantly, they usually don't sell out of your favorite bagels right away. My favorite bagels are the French Toast bagel, the Asiago Bagel, and the Cinnamon Crunch bagel. I usually get a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and butter. I love the bagels! They definitely make the best bagels I've ever had, hands down! Just be mindful that the Kenhorst location is run by teenagers and not all of them have customer service skills. read more

Only giving 2 stars because their food is good, but it's the environment I have an issue with. No problem if it's all teenagers but maybe have someone who is leading them. They all were working but the phone going off for 20 minutes while I'm waiting and 3 customers coming in that time to 5 staff members... and no one answering the phone seems a little off to me. I came two days in a row ordering a bacon and cheese sandwich no egg, both days it was made incorrectly and they apologized for not listening right, and I had to wait double the time for my food. There are also a lot of flys within the restaurant and I get my food to go because i'm also positive they don't wipe the tables til they close. As usual, the bagels are amazing. The staff is another story. Calling ahead can provide great convenience, but only if the phone is answered. I usually try to call ahead to save as much time as I can. About half the time, the phone will ring until the call drops (MANY rings). Today, I was at the store next door and called ahead to order bagels. The call rang an rang until the call finally dropped. I happened to step through the door as the call dropped. The staff, maybe 5 or 6, were gathered around the grill as if it were a fire pit seemingly having a great time. There were only 3 customers in the store, all already eating. Other fun facts: the staff will turn off the grill long before they close; the staff will not necessarily break from their discussion to take your order with any speed. The bagels are great. This place was becoming one of my favorite breakfast places. The problem is they are extremely SLOW. I ordered ahead of time so that I can get in and get out. They had orders that were ready for pickup but they were busy answering the phone taking more orders, instead of servicing the customers that were in the store. These would be unremarkable bagels in NYC, but for a strip mall outside of Reading these are solid bagels. They are boiled, which is a huge step over those in the grocery store. As reported by others, the staff are not terribly friendly, but I'll be back for the bagels. read more

Been coming here for years and their bagels are great. Service is often slow as they are not adequately staffed and it's extremely dirty. Take a peek behind the counter and the kitchen and you will see that sanitation is not a priority. Bathrooms, oh boy. it's just not like it used to be. bagels are small with sometimes no holes and look like baseballs instead of bagels. i grew up in an area out of pa where bagels are a valued tradition so I know good bagels. I have lived here now for over 20 years and thought this place was such a god send to have decent bagels in Berks county. but now it's just not the same. it's a 50/50 crap shoot if what you order and pay for is actually what is wrapped up and inside the bag especially with the bagel lunch specials. I have actually had drive back from my house and ask them to actually make what i paid for out of principle after so many times with it being wrong and I just accepted it. at the point where I rarely go there anymore and it's a shame because it was amazing. I know people still go there but it's because in my opinion there really aren't any other options for bagels in Berks county but at this point I just won't go there anymore. read more

Always a bit skeptical when a business in one area tries to make and to market a food from another area. I'll cut to the chase: these aren't anywhere close to being bagels from New York. These pieces of dough are too dense, too big and too dry. Also, the store was dirty, the staff grumpy and they are still using single-use styrofoam cups for coffee which corresponds to the overall lack of care here. That said, others seem to really dig this place (maybe in blissful ignorance of what a real bagel should taste like) so take this review for what it's worth to you. read more

Their motto is the "best around" and I would have to agree that these are pretty good bagels for Reading. They recently renovated and it's so much nicer than it used to be. They added booths, new lighting fixtures, etc. It actually feels like thought was given to customers who sit and eat their bagels here. If you go, try their egg and cheese bagel sandwich. Nothing bad about the food (sausage is the tastiest around; apple walnut cream cheese keeps me coming back!) the service is excellent- everyone is always very nice. There is always a line, but it moves fast. The only suggestion to make is that they need fresh squeezed juice - apple and orange. The prepackaged juices that they sell now are not up the standard of the food they make. Management pay attention. Tap into the growing customer base looking for fresh and healthier options. A good bagel for sure! My favorite go to is always the Everything but this time it cost a star. While the bagel itself was perfect the topping had way too much salt. The egg was cooked nicely thin. I was thrilled that they actually had Taylor Ham buy two thin slices is nowhere near enough. I will go back to try a different option soon. Stay tuned. read more

I'm not from New York so I don't know if I am allowed to give this place a full five stars. However, you are going to be very hard pressed to find a better bagel in central PA. York, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Reading, this place has the best bagels around. The great: The food is fresh, the kitchen is open so you see what's going on behind the counter. I have not had a single bagel that wasn't delicious here. Sometimes a bakery/dessert/donut shop isn't always consistent but they seem to have their recipe down here. The ok: The price is a little higher than expected, but the portions on the bagels are quite generous so after you take bite you forget how much you paid anyway. The service is just ok, they're friendly but it's a small operation and they could probably use some help. Bottom Line: I didn't have any strong feelings towards bagels for years until I tried my first good bagel in NY, then I'd get them in Jersey sometimes, and this place is better than those. They have fresh, great tasting bagels ALL Day Long and lots of options. It's more than worth a try and I'm guessing if you go once you'll be back. The places I've had in NY/NJ were equally good but if you went in the afternoon it was obvious they made the bagels early in the morning so it wasn't as consistently good as this shop. read more

​​My FAVORITE bagel shop! Their french toast bagel is to die for! All of their bagels have a lot of flavor and are so fresh. They also have a variety of homemade specialty cream cheeses. I have never had a breakfast sandwich, but I know a lot of people who love them. Depending on the time of day and day of the week the wait time might be longer but never longer than 10 minutes. Their blueberry coffee is fantastic​. I got it iced with cream and sugar, and it was terrific. And the best part about this place is their prices! Great bagels, always a hit. I had to take a couple stars off because of the work force. Hats off and compliments to those kids, they're working hard on a weekend morning and they're doing a great job. The problem is that they're not being supervised. When you have a work force that young, a competent experienced adult needs to be in there getting his/her hands dirty alongside of them. Hair nets are needed too. Several staff have long hair and more than once I saw an employee running his fingers through his/her hair and then handling food...which also goes back to the need for supervision. read more

First the good - bagel and ingredients quality is very good and tasty. The bad - I don't understand why it's so difficult to get an order correct. A simple request to not put cheese on a bagel sandwich is not hard, yet 2 out of 3 times - it ends up with cheese. Of course this morning I didn't check until I reached the office and there's no way I'm running back to have them fix it. I frequent this place often. The food is great. Some of the best bagels I've ever had. The service though is horrible. It's staffed by high school/college kids and they bust their hump. All very hard working and most are pleasant. The issue is there is no management. Their method of order taking is completely asinine. The person taking your order prepares it while one person runs the grill. So on a given weekday on my way to work, if 2 people in front of me order some bagels with cream cheese, the grill guy sits with an empty grill, I wait in line, and there's a log jam at the single toaster as the one girl waits for the other to finish with the toaster. Meanwhile the grill could have been making my order if they had one girl taking orders and the other fulfilling them. On the weekends their method literally causes the line to go out the door, but not because they are that busy. It's because they are that inefficient. Get a good manager in here and this place will be awesome. read more

I have eaten bagels at the New York Bagelry for the past 15 years, and love the shop. I remember the older gentleman being in the back in the early hours of the morning and his customer forward nature and excellent service. Not much has changed, and the bagels, products, and food are still as excellent as they were. What has changed is the service, mostly on the weekends. There are no adults most weekends, and the teenagers run around in the mornings and do as they please. I waited in a line consisting of myself this morning for 5 minutes to be served as one teen looked at her phone, until she found it appropriate to serve me. This type of service decreases your appetite quickly and makes you reconsider where you should be spending your money. The food is outstanding, and I would be more than happy to pay for it. Please hire individuals that look like they care about the job they are doing, so I can give you my money again. read more

Ever since I moved to PA from Central NJ, there are two things that I've really been missing...good pizza and good bagels. I used to buy my bagels at the Bagel Pantry in South Plainfield, because it's the one place you can always be sure to get real Brooklyn-style bagels(chewy outside, dense insides). Needless to say, this little shop in Kenhorst Plaza in Reading does absolutely not disappoint. Owned by - Surprise! - NY natives, these people do bagels right. Lots and lots of flavors(even some I've never heard of...Peanut butter? Yum!), and plenty of spreads to satisfy anyone(the lox cream cheese is delicious). And they have pork roll! Any Jersey ex-pat who lives here knows what I'm talking about. The muffins are wonderful as well. read more

Very confused. I ordered a BLT and a Blue berry bagel with blue berry cream cheese and the lady wrote both of them down. She then combined the orders and made a BLT on a blueberry bagel with the blue berry cream cheese and the BLT. We spent $7 on one bagel that was suppose to be 2 and ended up taking disgusting. The women who staff the place during the week are very friendly and easy going and the kids on the weekend are fast.
