She explained the difference between hard and soft rolls, and I decided to go with the large one (which I'm glad I did). The hoagie was incredibly delicious! The fresh meats and cheeses were of the highest quality, and there was no skimping on ingredients. I ate half of in the car and the rest when I got home. I appreciated how the meat was on the top and not smothered by the other toppings. Pretty decent sub. -Matt's Steak (Philly Style, small): yuck. Everything about this sub was nasty. Took 1 bite and all I tasted was SALT. I had high hopes because it smelled and looked sooo good! It was wayyy too salty and the flavor of the steak was not good at all. I couldn't enjoy or taste any of the toppings I added (sweet peppers & fried onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard) because the salt overpowered. Didn't finish this sub, as it was too nasty. Waste of $9. -Onion Rings: not worth $5.50. I literally counted 8 onion rings, most of which were very small. Wish they were homemade but they definitely tasted frozen. Would not order again. I probably won't order from here again. 2 stars only because the service was quick, food was still hot when I picked up and the young lady at the counter when I picked up was very kind. Got the whole gambit - an Italian, California cheesesteak, and the classic Philly cheesesteak (onions + whiz). I don't think I could ever order a Cali cheesesteak in Philly. That's some sort of sacrilege. But I legit love lettuce, tomato, and onion on every sandwich ever. It just goes so well. The Italian pretty standard. Good amount of meat. Maybe a bit heavy on the ham. Nice amount of olive oil & red wine vinegar. That sharpness of the vinegar is so key. The Philly cheesesteak was bomb. Kinda had this weird processed look to it. Almost like it was covered in a shiny film of fake cheese. I mean, shoot, I guess that's literally what it was. I'm looking at the picture now. It's so bizarre looking. No natural cheese should be that color. But that's whiz, baby. That's cheddar gloop. And it's oh so good. This is the only V&S shop I go to even though this one is 15-20 minutes away and there is another one on Lancaster Ave 5 min from my house. The one in Sinking Spring.. well, don't get me started... I haven't been there in 6 years. I can't believe these places share the name V&S because they vary widely. But this place in Temple is terrific! If you're reading this and you're from out of town, let it be known that here in Berks County we make cheese steaks WITH sauce, by default. If you don't like that, then order without.
