The ubiquity of Wawa's and Sheetz in our area, I'm surprised locally run mom & pop sandwich shops…read morecan still even exist. Seriously, I think there are more Wawa's per square mile in Berks County than Starbucks, Taco Bell, and Wendy's combined. I will say, though, that Reading is super resilient when it comes to pizza/subs. Maybe call it stubbornness. These little sub shops aren't shuttering their doors, even if the giant convenience store chains are huffing and puffing and doing everything they can to blow their houses down. On the plus side, our inner city is so claustrophobically jam-packed that Wawa's simply can't exist in the confines of the urban jungle we call downtown Reading. Shops like Rocky's can survive and endure in a fraction of the space giant retail convenience stores would take up. And as it's been told, good things come in small packages. The Italian subs here are actually quite fantastic. As I've stated many times before, it all starts with the roll. Here, they are delectably airy while still retaining the luscious chew that we all adore. Mix in fresh, vibrant ingredients, and mouthwatering, perfectly spiced deli meats, and you have yourself one of the most underrated sub destinations in town.

Not only was the shop perfectly located on the main strip to get to/out of, but the food (and service) was excellent. Between the two of us we split some wings, an Italian hoagie, and a Vinny Special pizza. The wings were good with a decent crisp and a tasty buffalo-style sauce. The Vinny Special pizza was really good as well with a great combination of flavors to it. But the best thing of all for me was the Italian hoagie (or sub as they call it!). The homemade roll was excellent and so too were the incredibly fresh Italian meats, cheese, and the toppings. If I had anything even remotely bad to say at all, it was that the music playing in the shop was pretty terrible. Like, who listens to some of this stuff these days? Overall, awesome spot and will definitely be back when I'm back in town. Hopefully the food and service is just as good and they have some different music playing for everyone to enjoy!

Long time customer, proud to call these guys my hometown pizzeria. They make an excellent pizza,…read morethe staff are very friendly, and the pricing is reasonable. These are a few of my thoughts: Location- located right off of RT183 in Bern township next to the Audi dealership, the location is excellent. Parking and traffic will be a challenge as the location sits close to the road, making it a challenge to enter and exit during the rush hour after normal working hours. Parking lines in the lot are faded, but you are able to make out the spots. There is a ramp for handicapped patrons. Inside the spot- Entering the pizzeria, you are greeted by the beautiful aromatic smell of freshly made pizza, sandwiches and calzones. The interior is in need of a design refresh (though not indicative of their product quality by any means!). The staff are friendly, and will greet you while they hustle around filling orders, and place your order. The most efficient method is the call ahead for pickup. They bring forth your delicious meal and off you go! The pizza- my household order usually includes two of their staple offerings which include their plain pizza and the steak and onion pizza. The plain is out of this world. Salty, savory and a nice crunchy crust, the sauce is thin and slightly sweet. The cheese covers the entire pie, and is not overly runny. It's the perfect New York style pie. The steak and onion, otherwise known as the Philly cheesesteak pizza, is a wonderful blend of steak pieces, fried onions, sauce and cheese. The steak is savory and the onions are soft and flavorful! Another favorite of ours is the pepperoni, the sausage topping and the white pizza. One critique I have about their pies is I wish they would be a little less floppy. If the bottom was slightly crispy, that would be amazing! Overall, there is no substitute for Pieros pizza in the Leesport/Bern township area. They have identified the key aspects of making a great product, and have doubled down on great ingredients and good customer service!

This is a "grab your own seat and hope for the best" kind of pizza joint. No fuss, no frills, just…read morepick a table and settle in. The place must be really good at pizza, because judging by the "side salad," they've clearly decided to put all their culinary effort into the dough. Calling it a salad is doing some serious heavy lifting. It was, quite literally, lettuce with a cup of Ken's dressing sitting beside it, as if the vegetables were still waiting for backup to arrive. No cheese. No croutons. Nothing but lettuce and dressing--the saddest little leafy situation imaginable. At this joint, you'll want to read the menu very closely, because apparently, words like "hot sub" don't necessarily imply the presence of something as wildly adventurous as cheese. It's best not to make assumptions about what comes with your sandwich. If the menu doesn't explicitly say cheese, lettuce, seasoning, flavor, or perhaps even basic enthusiasm, you'd better assume it's not making an appearance. So take your time, study every line, and resist the urge to apply common sense. Around there, ordering a "hot" sub apparently means the temperature--not necessarily the toppings. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and pleasant, they were happy to help. That said, if you're stopping in, maybe aim for the pizza. Cheers!

I arrived at the small shop and was greeted by two friendly ladies. The menu board was simple, and I opted for the Italian hoagie. She explained the difference between hard and soft rolls, and I decided to go with the large one (which I'm glad I did). The hoagie was incredibly delicious! The fresh meats and cheeses were of the highest quality, and there was no skimping on ingredients. I ate half of in the car and the rest when I got home. This small shop far surpassed any chain restaurant I've ever been to, and it's definitely one of the best food experiences I've had. I'm completely satisfied and will definitely make this a weekly treat.
