Gluten Free Review: (Disclaimer - I do not have Celiacs. Just gluten free by choice for other reasons.) They have a plain bagel and everything bagel that come gluten free! They also have a couple gluten free muffin options as well. I got a plain with strawberry cream cheese. Obviously not as good as a regular bagel (don't necessarily expect it to be), but the fact that they even had it as an option is great in my opinion. I think next time I won't get it toasted, as I think that may have dried it out a little bit. They also have breakfast bagels sandwiches that you can have on a gluten free bagel. I used to love this place, but over the course of the last few months, the quality has been so bad I can't even finish a meal. Every time I go now, the bagels are under baked and doughy, rendering them completely disgusting and inedible. PLEASE train your bakers properly! This is truly pathetic. It's been decades since I was in New York or any city with a large Jewish population, so my review may be a little biased. The bagels are pretty good though they seem overly large. They are generous with the cream cheese. The smoked salmon (not sure if it's really lox, but it works) is good. The drinks are not exceptional, but they're not why we come here. This was one of our go-to spots ten years ago in college, and I'm glad to report it still holds up today. Great assortment of bagels and pastries, and the staff were so friendly and patient. Bagels were delicious, but by the next morning a bit chewy, so make sure to seal extra well. The real can't-miss item is their cream cheese...I used to only ever get regular so I was blown away to discover real sliced red onion and chives in mine, and our blueberry cream cheese to go was a beautiful deep purple with real berries in it...amazing. So this is now called New York Bagel Cafe otherwise it is the same as before the name change. The Bagels here are very good with many topping options. There are lots of sweet treats here too including cookies, cinnamon rolls and muffins. Although the cookies look delectable I often feel underwhelmed as some are too sugary depending on which ones you choose. I love the salads and sandwiches. I often get the "You pick 2" and my favorite is a 1/2 turkey sandwich (Lil' Turkey) on whole wheat bread and a 1/2 chef salad. Don't let the 1/2 of each fool you, it's quite a satisfying meal. The lettuce is always fresh and I rarely see any brown slimy lettuce. Several styles and flavours of coffee are available as well as soda, cold and hot tea, all self service. There's some covered outdoor seating that is dog friendly. The Brookside location on South Peoria is getting pretty dated inside whereas the other location , 6805 S Yale Ave, it's much nicer inside with fireplaces in the winter and a very nice large outdoor seating area. read more

I tried this for the first time. I got the chicken sandwich on a toasted garlic bagel, the firecracker on a toasted jalapeño cheese bagel, a warm cinnamon roll, and a large drink. I haven't come here many times, but the few times that I have it's been good! Starting with the bagels, since that's what they are most known for, and it's in the name. The one that stands out most in my memory (and it was a while ago so it says something) is the jalapeño cheddar with sundried tomato cream cheese. Now onto something other than the bagels: COOKIES!!! I was recently at a meeting where someone brought in a bunch of cookies from here, and they were so good! I didn't necessarily know they had cookies here but I sure do now... I ended up trying part of their double chocolate cookie and some of their salted caramel chocolate chip one (at least, I think that's what it was haha). First of all, the size of each cookie is no joke, they are insanely thick! In fact I only took a fourth of both of the flavors I tried and it seemed like so much... so these are great to split with friends/ family, which is great! Then the flavors were also intense, specifically on the double chocolate one. It was so rich that even just the fourth of the cookie that I had was a lot to finish (but in the best way possible). The other one almost had a caramel apple flavor to me, but maybe I'm crazy. I liked it too though! From now on I'll remember Old School Bagel if I have a random craving for a massive cookie lol. read more

I love New York bagels. Unfortunately the bagels are never consistent and how they are done. Sometimes they're over baked and burnt. Sometimes they are barely baked and seem like they should've been bake longer. I don't get it. Consistency is so important in any food business. I don't know how could be so inconsistent, another issue when ordering a sandwich it seems like every time it is screwed up. I know it's pressed in the machine properly. Okay, so I haven't written a review, up until now. When we first moved to Tulsa, about 10 years ago, there were foods we missed greatly. Bagels can't really be considered a staple. However, raised in Southern California, I lived for those weekly trips to Western Bagel Company in Van Nuys. It was, and I think still is, their factory. Bagels are a tradition for more than 40 years. I was happy, elated when we stumbled on Old School Bagel Cafe about a year after moving here. We have made Old School a tradition, almost every Sunday is Bagel Day. Why didn't I write a review earlier? The company was less than perfect and I believe they suffered from the plague of every eatery in Tulsa, finding great help to go along with a great product. It took some time to become consistent. Not so much in the main product but, the supporting products. Cream Cheese containers were inconsistent in weight and sometimes a serious disappointment in the drive-thru. I gave them a 5 star rating because they have pushed through and improved. I still believe a little competition may be good for them but, their commitment to improving and delivering excellent bagels probably keeps competition from taking them on. One of the best bakeries in Tulsa, no doubt. A fantastic Bagel. I might give them 6 stars if they would take my idea of adding Garlic to the Salt Bagel.
