I love Chinese food & we get it pretty frequently. My boss wanted it for lunch the other day & we usually get take out from another local Chinese restaurant but decided to give New Moon a try. I ordered the sweet & sour chicken lunch combo, my husband got the general tso chicken lunch combo & my boss got the sesame chicken lunch combo. The woman who took my order on the phone was friendly & helpful & our food was ready pretty fast. The carryout counter is right up front when you walk in so we didn't see much of the restaurant but the area we did see appeared clean. They have a sign on the door that they only do carryout & delivery, no dine in. I'm not sure why that is because it looks like they have a good amount of dining room space & have tables & chairs set up in that area. We took our carryout order back to work & sat down to eat. The portions are generous & it tasted pretty good. However, nearly a handful of my chicken pieces were so overcooked that I couldn't chew them. My husband said his general tso chicken was okay, but not super flavorful, so we both said we prefer the food from our go-to location instead. My boss didn't really have any complaints about his food. I would potentially give them another try, but not 100% sure. read more

The heaping mountain of fried rice had little meat and had to add seasoning to make it palatable. New Moon Special was fair but chicken and pork were tough like shoe leather. Best part of this meal were the vegetables. Inside restaurant seemed like a warehouse with supplies stacked on booth tables and seemed dirty. Will not return. read more

Well first off I have been going to New Moon since 1988. I have never had any issues and their food was always above par. On April 11, 2025 an order was place for dinner. Unfortunately the words disappointed does not totally explain how we felt. Non of the food including the refried rice had ANY flavor. The chicken was over cooked and bland tasting as was just like the rubbery bland seafood. We even joked can they screw up the egg roll, well YES they can. Again burnt and no flavor. Only because I have been going there so long I will give them another try. Hopefully they get their shit together. It we get the same type of food again it will definitely be our last time. This location has been here for years. Not sure HOW long but when I moved out to this area in 1992, New Moon was here. It is located on 21 Mile Rd at the Corner of Garfield in the Country Meadows shopping center and next door to Jet's Pizza and Dollar General. I ordered carry out from here as a last minute hungry craving for Chinese food and did not want to make the drive to my usual place. The prices here are cheaper by a few compared to my favorite location down on 22 Mile Rd. but a bit less quantity for sure I noticed. I did not place my order by phone since the line was busy 3 times when I tried to call. Therefore I walked in to place my order and waited less than 30 minutes which I thought was reasonable. My food trays were nicely wrapped up to prevent leakage and also extra sauce and noodles for the two soups without asking so thank you. Prices on my food items: Triple family= $10.59, Egg Roll=$1.39, Wonton Soup for a Quart $4.19 along with Egg Drop Soup same price. My meal was the triple delight, which was satisfying filled in a carryout tray with plenty of rice (leftovers too) and enjoyed the two hot flavorful soups. My only complaint was the crackers for the soup were burnt and greasy tasting. The egg rolls were overcooked and the dipping sauce was not thick enough too watery. Was happy to receive 4 fortune cookies instead of 2. How nice to see on their carry out menu that they are open 7 days a week: 11:00a.m. to 10:00p.m. weekdays, Friday & Saturday hours: 11:00a.m. to 11:00p.m. Sunday: Noon to 10:00p.m. I've never tried their delivery service since I am not that lazy to use, living close by too. :) It's been years to enjoy a sit down meal here, but I noticed in view from the lobby that it could use a remodel. I ordered the general Tso chicken from luncheon dine-in menu and I like that even during the pandemic while everything is closed, they still honored the dine-in menu instead of just the carry out. Pros: -it was a huge portion -tons of vegetables were included -the chicken fried rice that came with it was great Cons: -the chicken was too battered/mushy for me -some parts of the chicken just didn't taste right -while placing the order, the hostess hung up so quick that I couldn't ask how long until the food will be ready or the cost So overall, I liked everything but the General Tso chicken but I'd try something else next time. We ordered a carry out for dinner and a 20-25 minute wait was a fair and reasonable amount of time for two dinners. Everything was packaged well with plenty of rice to go around and lots of soy sauce and of course, the fortune cookies. I ordered a whole order (rather than the combo) of Vegetable Egg Foo Young. Wow, there was an impressive amount for 3 meals. My husband ordered a whole order of Sweet and Sour Chicken. Again, a ton of chicken in his order too. There was no skimping on the portion sizes which I was surprised and happy to see. The Vegetable Egg Foo Young was very good except for the gravy. I didn't care for it because most of all it lacked quality taste and the color of it wasn't appetizing for me. It was bland and boring. There just wasn't that delicious, mouth watering gravy I'm used to getting from my favorite Chinese restaurant. My husband's meal looked to be pretty standard as far as his sauce. I don't think this restaurant will be my future first choice even though there was a ton of food. If the gravy doesn't help make the meal delicious on my favorite Chinese dish, that's a let down for me. I think the longer, out of the way drive for a carryout from my favorite Chinese restaurant will be well worth the extra time since this place disappointed me when I had higher expectations. I've always been into Asian culture and cuisine as a whole but there is a difference between quality and quantity when it comes to all types of food. Asian included. COVID: amazing procedures. Lobby still closed. So only takeout. Masks, gloves, sanitization, good capacity limits, and more. But despite all of that, and there being a literal wall of see-through plastic around the minor entrance area where you get the takeout, the staff is as friendly as ever. The good is always fantastic and the portions are huge for decent/regular prices. Lots of veggies in the lo mein. The rice in the boxed containers is always stuffed. You get a great amount for what you pay for! A large dinner meal could feed, imo, 1-3 and maybe even 4 if it's young kids who don't eat a lot. The people who work here are great. And the food is secured very well even before Covid but now is even more top notch. This place is truly a diamond in the rough when it comes to Chinese food in the area which has endless to eat but not endless variety. I went here once with a friend maybe 4-5 years ago in 2017 and didn't go back till mid January 2021. It's been a while since I've been to New Moon, and after this wonderful meal I'm kicking myself for having passed it by so much in recent years. Let's start with those great egg rolls. Not overly fried, and thus they were not greasy. Inside a delicious mix of cabbage, chicken and pork, all of which were superbly spiced. Next, New Moon has THE BEST House Special Won Ton Soup with lots of bean sprouts, pea pods, shrimp, chicken, pork and bok choy. The broth is far from bland, with a rich chicken taste without being salty. The Young Chow Fried Rice has a nice mixture of meats and veggies, but I was disappointed that it was fried rice and not white, which is the traditional rice used when preparing this dish. Also not bad, but not a home run either, is the Young Chow Lo Mein. Again, the mixture of meats and veggies were fine, but the noodle was a bit uninspired. Those two dishes aside, the Beef and Pea Pods and the Moo Shoo Pork were both phenomenal. The sauces for both were perfect, and the wraps for the Moo Shoo were not too thick or too thin. If you live in this area, New Moon should be on your radar when looking for great Asian cuisine. read more

This was the first time we ordered from New Moon. Based upon a friend's recommendation and the reviews We expected to be be happy with our food. This was the worst Chinese food we have ever had. Fried rice was so dry, almost burnt. None of the food had any flavor, Beef with broccoli was a soggy mess. General Tso Had sweet and sour sauce on it and that is not the Normal presentation. Since we did not dine-in we would not rate service or ambience. But I would recommend Future diners look for another place to order from unless you want the dog's breakfast. read more

This is a great and inexpensive lunch spot for some great Asian food! You get a cup of soup (your choice - I like the Wonton) and a generous portion (with rice and an egg roll) for only $7! I personally like the sweet and sour chicken and the sesame chicken. Then, I always have leftovers for the next day. Top that off with a cup of hot tea, and you have a great and inexpensive meal! I noted the waitress-only one with 7 tables of 2, and 1 table of 8 all arrived about the same time. Ordered separately. My wife and I were there before the rush. Than, no waitress for like 10 minutes when I was waiting for a bill. Waitress comes out with 5 tables food on a cart. To me, they either have 10 cooks, or one table is waiting for fresh food while four other tables food was prepared and getting cold. They also reflect a full bar on the info. Which is partially correct. They have a bar in the back of the restaurant. It is full of storage. They do not serve alcohol. read more

The soups were lukewarm and when I brought to the servers attention, she didn't offer a solution or even acted concerned about it. The pan fried dumplings were greasy and subpar. The mandarin delight looked worse than dog food. The ABC was the only thing I package to go home. There was plenty of food left but it disgusting. The food is very tasty. My friend has a gluten allergy and they were very helpful in deciding what she could eat. They also circled items she could order next time to make it even easier. I have a dairy and egg allergy, but also vegetarian (vegan because of the dairy and egg allergy) and they have a good selection of food to choose from. I ordered chicken fried rice, my bride had shrimp fried rice. They arrived piping hot and fried to a dark brown hue. It looked great...it was not. We ordered a carry out at this restaurant for the very first time in many years and have to say I was a bit disappointed. My fiancée ordered chicken lo mein with fried rice and the meal was awful. It did not taste anything like lo mein. Also the rice was jasmine rice I think. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. Mine also came with white rice instead of the fried rice I ordered and the breading on the chicken was kind of mushy. Two others in our party literally had no vegetables at all in their food. It consisted of only meat and sauce. Only one order in our entire party was made correctly. When we called them to advise how the food was made, they hung up! We called again and they ended up remaking two of the meals but they said they were super busy so it would take another 30 minutes.
