I want to start of by saying this was never my go to shop as it's a 45 minute drive from where I live but it used to be a really great spot. I would always find good books in the back issue bins and even find some decent stuff in the dollar bins. But my last trip here will definitely be my last as it's not worth the drive anymore. I went a few weeks ago and the selection of books was dismal and most of them are in really bad shape yet they still expect 8-15 dollars for some minor keys in the back issues. The place is also a complete mess when it comes to finding anything and the guy at the register is a jerk and shady. They were having a Black Friday sale and and they said no % off on "new" wall books and then proceeded to tell me that books that were in the wall when I came weeks ago were apparently "new" and that I couldn't get the deal they advertised and I drove 45 minutes for. Forever this particular shop stood out to me for years as id stopped coming due to well, just bad service overall. The thing that hurt was that I loved going. It was much closer than the one in Quincy and had a much better selection than Norwood, so it was a no-brainer. While out earlier, a friend and I decided to stop in. We'd both had been wanting to see if there was a change. Plus, we were in the area as we had just had lunch next door. Best decision ever. Kyle is beyond one of the coolest individuals I've come across when dealing with various comicbook stores in my lifetime. I've been collecting since I was 8, and now, having just turned 50, it's needed. Attentive, friendly, and just plain cool. It was definitely needed and refreshing. Service is a major fail for me. As soon as I walked in, i said good afternoon loud enough to be heard by the 2 gentlemen standing at the counter. Employees at that. Not one responded but both looked my way. Instantly did not feel like I should've been in the store at that time. As I looked for items to match my very important gift selection, I was not asked if I needed any assistance which would be fine normally cause I'm a capable man who can find an idea of what I'm looking for, but the gentleman that was behind the counter walked to the other corner of the store and asked a mysterious persons, if they needed anything. Still, no acknowledgment of my presence in the store. After circling te whole rack for a shirt, I make my decision and walked to the register and did not initiate any dialogue. All that the original cashier spoke was the price of the shirt. And then tossed the bag across the counter towards me. I've worked customer service jobs and I've taken pride in my ability to make the experience for the customer. I'm not going to blame it on my being a YOUNG BLACK MAN, but that a question to why they thought I wasn't going to buy maybe. I don't believe I was being watched so it's not that I was gonna steal. This is just unacceptable. I'm going in not to return the shirt after typing all this and spend my 20$ else where. As I walked in calmly, I was visibly upset and asked if I could return the shirt. This guy responded they don't do refunds. No hesitation or concern for why I'd be wanting to return the item. These shitheads need more training on how to deal with people. Luckily for them the military fucked up my head and I gotta work extra hard to control myself and I'm in the parking lot doing breathing exercises before going in to speak properly so I'm not another angry black man. These people are racist hands down. I don't like pulling that card but this isnt the first time the service has been sub par to me and my companions but I was younger and wanted to go to the newer comic store. Anyway, back to how this continued. I looked for the sign that said where they deny returns. The sign said it must have obvious defects and I looked for hanging strings and the manager had to confirm. He offered an exchange and I said I don't want problems but the service was trash and just return instead of causing issue. He didn't ask no question and went back to the corner with the mystery persons who ended up being 2ish+ people sitting in the back. I would give this store five stars, as it has a great selection of comic books and trade paperbacks. But the dude who manages this place knocks it down to a two star review. Everything everyone else has said about the guy is spot on. He doesn't greet you when you greet him, he watches everyone in the store, he is rude, he looks like some washed-up old hair Dio wanna-be, and lacks customer service skills. In fact, he may be one of the most miserable people I've ever encountered in retail. I know he runs a comic book store in a rough neighborhood, and I don't know his entire back story as to why he's so angry. But I do know one thing: I won't be going out of my way to patronize his store again. read more

I was never a comic book fan. but after finishing Stephen King's Dark Tower series, I was hooked and very excited upon learning there would be a comic book series based on the books! Lucky for me there is a comic book store down the street from where I live! I was a little hesitant to go inside at first. I felt intimidated for some reason. but now I shop there about once a month to pick up the latest DT comic. I've always gotten great customer service there. Over the time I've been going to NE Comics, I've noticed there are two main guys who run the counter. One of them is a little creepy and tries to be more involved with the customers (at least that was my experience) and it made me uncomfortable. but one time,when there was no copies left of a certain issue I wanted, the guy called around to other comic book stores to have a copy shipped to the Brockton store for me! Then he called me when it was ready for me to come and purchase. I was impressed! The same guy also gave me a free sample comic once, which I have to say was very very strange. The other guy is friendly but non-invasive. Even with the creepy guy, I've been happy with the services. I will continue shopping here for my comic book needs. read more

NEC Brockton is a good store, overall. They cleaned up the place, and it's easier to walk around than it used to be. The only issue I have with shopping here is being heckled every time I pick up a comic book. Immediately, I have a guy with long curly hair breathing down my neck, and explaining everything in the issue that made it GREAT. I like reading the comics, not having someone spoil everything for me. The store itself if great... The associates working there... arguable. My advice, keep a pair of headphones on when you walk in the store. OR, just go to NEC in Quincy. read more

I have to admit this right off the bat --- I don't read comics. Other than an occasional comic book I'd pick up at the supermarket, or a handful of graphic novels I've borrowed from friends, I still don't ready comics. I love comic book characters like Batman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, etc. from the DC Animated Universe, but I just never got into reading books. If you go here looking to pick up the latest issue of whatever it is you're currently into, this is the place. However, when I stop in its usually to scope out action figures, posters, whatever else it is that I might find. One of the guys there is kind of a hard-sell. Once while I was there I happened to be wearing a Star Trek shirt and he asked me if I was interested in a miniature Klingon Bird of Prey. I'm definitely a window shopper; I'll go in, look around and leave without making a purchase. If there is something I am looking for I will not hesitate to ask for help, but otherwise I just like to be left to my own devices. I can't fault a guy for doing his job and offering customer service (unlike so many other places when you need to find a red shirt or a blue shirt there is nobody to be seen). They don't have a very big selection of action figures, but usually do have whatever is most recently hitting shelves, and if they don't have what you're looking for they will call around to the other local stores to find out if they have it, and then they'll have it delivered to the store for you for no extra charge, which is a nice service. They're always having sales on comics and whatnot, so if you hit it right you can most likely get some good bargains on things. Again, I'm not into reading comics, but this is just what I've noticed. read more

Not a bad store but the guy who runs it always tries to sell you more no matter how much you spend. I understand the need to make a profit but when you spend over $80 and the guy is still trying to convince you to buy one more thing, it gets a little exasperating. read more

New England Comics is a very nice place to shop from Comics to Pokémon cards. I was trying to sell some cards and they told me were I should go and gave me a printed out copy of the events. Nice place defiantly go again. read more

Awesome shop. I went in a few years ago as a noob & they helped me get into some books I love (without making me feel like a "noob") Every staff member is super helpful & always friendly. I've been to many of the locations that New England comics has, this store is the unfriendly by far. After I picked out the comic I was going to buy I brought it to the counter. The clerk didn't even look at me or even tell me the total. I don't know if someone s*** in his corn flakes this morning but it is not good customer service not to greet customers. I will stick with the friendlier Norwood or Quincy store then rather come here again. read more

Second visit to this store today, and sadly, it will likely be my last. The grey haired, counter guy with the pony tail, is probably the most unfriendly person in retail I have ever encountered. On both occasions he just stared at me, not bothering to return my greeting as I walked into the store. He is also apparently quite suspicious of his customers, this time he actually stood behind me while I was perusing the selection. There must be a ring of 50+ year old male shoplifters hitting comic book stores in the area. Anyway, on both trips I purchased books. I really like to support local brick and mortars. The books I bought, were roughly half the price on Amazon, but that is not the point. Treat your customers well, and they will gladly pay your asking price. I certainly would. This has quickly become my favorite comic book store. Nate the guy that seems to run the store is very helpful. He does follow you around at times and gives suggestions. Some people may be put off by that. But he will go above and beyond to hunt stuff down for you. And is very helpful and knowledgeable. He has put comics aside for me on multiple occasions. As well as hooking me up with deals. If you're looking for a local comic book shop that has an awesome selection of current and past issues. Tons of bargains bins and graphic novels. A great number of wall issues. Some statues, toys, and apparel. Check this place out. read more

The other reviewer on here is completely right. Nowadays almost everyone deserves a second chance, so I stopped in here today to find some new X-Men trades. When I asked about them, Nate replied "Looking for X-Men stuff? Okay!" He then came right out from behind the counter with enthusiasm and started rattling off recommendations for me. I walked out the door with not only X-Men books, but a complete collection of Black Panther by Chris Preist and also two volumes of Cable The Last Hope! I only had 20 minutes to spare in the store today, but my visit was made worthwhile thanks to him. read more

I only discovered the store a few years ago but it quickly became my favorite store to buy comics at. Nate has always been super helpful to me during this time, helping me set up a pull list so I don't miss out on any key issues of my favorite titles. Another bonus is that even when the store has sold out of a comic or other item he is more than willing to call the other stores in order to see if he can get the item brought to Brockton for you. Overall I'd say this is my favorite branch of New England Comics and plan on shopping there as much as possible. read more

I've been going to this NEC location since I was 12 years old (I'm now 35). This shop is great, and the help is even greater. Nate is very accomodating and is always looking out for things he thinks his customers might be interested in. Just a couple of Saturdays ago, he took time to call about 8 other stores to find a trade for me. The conversation with him is always good, too. Great store! read more

The deals I get, the friendly staff, a pretty easy to find organization process, this comic store is one in a million. The staff remember you the 2nd time you walk in the door and each can recommend titles you would enjoy reading. There are mystery grab boxes, dollar comics, and many more deals year round. I drive an hour out of way just to purchase from them over competition. read more
