Not your typical comic shop. The store is always clean and organized. Service is fantastic. Wide selection of new and old.

Initially I loved this place, it was a LITTLE more than the competitors but it was in a mall and I…read moreget you have to keep the lights on, etc.. so it wasn't a bad experience as much as I knew I wasn't going there to get a deal. Kids in the store were nice, cool little eclectic blend of employees, had WAY more Manga then I was into but a solid back selection too and I'd almost always find at least one or two things you didn't know existed. Overall was great for an every 10 weeks trip or so... ( here comes the but...) That being said, August of last year they sold my son a broke in the box General Grievous, big 200 buck one, he was ECSTATIC to buy it but they didn't disclose it was broken, the arm was glued, it wasn't " working" ( Mass law that you can't sell something you know is broke.. we don't have an As-Is law that permits that) and unfortunately he didn't open the box until we got in. I took pictures instantly and we returned to the store immediately and the manager was " going to contact us".. guys name was Phil ( he and his whole staff have been fired since, I'm guessing they were stealing or doing something shady). Told that we broke it ( um... WHEN would we have had time to?!?) and he proceeded to lie to the credit card company as well. Long story short, we're taking them to small claims court and including treble damages because of the intent to deceive, the amount of my time he wasted over what I'm sure they KNEW was their own scam since the arm was super glued... etc etc... It's good that Phil has been fired and good that we're going to get our money back but it's just garbage that ANYONE would try to pull that stunt on a 12 year old autistic kid. Just complete scumbaggery. Ok so in short: Good selection. Ok prices. Really bad human beings. Also, apparently don't know Mass General Laws... probably should learn those guys.. P.S. I'd settle for a refund and an apology from the owner/manager who shows up at court next week. I'd probably change the review to reflect this as it wasn't the owners fault or current management but they've had a ton of time to reach out on this one and haven't. Doesn't help that they tried to say they have " experts" who claim we broke it... maybe the business is seedy, I don't know, I just know they tried to rob a kid who cleaned up an awful lot of dog poop to save that money up..

My boyfriend and I embarked on a quest to find a gaming store with older Dungeons & Dragons…read moreparaphernalia. From Johnston, RI, to Pawtucket, to Rehoboth, MA; Rivendell was the third such store we visited that day, but I wish it had been the first. The owner keeps a tidy store, and all of the items are well-labeled. To the left as you enter the store, you will find shelves of gently used fantasy novels, science- and Arthurian fiction (Piers Anthony, Dungeons & Dragons, The Mists of Avalon). Board games, role-playing games, cards, collectibles, Jinx (gamer-wear) t-shirts, crystals, fun magnets, buttons, badges, stickers, models and miniatures - painted and unpainted. A great selection of many colors and shapes of dice from Chessex and Crystal Caste, as well as bags to store them all in. Displayed in the glass counter were a few beautiful sets of dice crafted from semi precious metals and stones. Rivendell satisfied our need for older D&D manuals, adventures, and modules. In store that day was a nice selection of books from AD&D through 4th edition. We also found out that the owner buys and sells used D&D books, so we will definitely be back to check for new inventory. As Andrew M. stated, it was not obvious in the least that there was a gaming room behind the storefront - I was only made aware of that fact by reading his review. I just can't bear to give Rivendell 4 stars for that, though, as it really is the icing on the cake! A bulletin board by the door serves as a nice little networking hot-spot, so if you are looking to join a gaming group, check it out.

Great selection of games and books! Could spend hours there just browsing. The guys there are so…read moreknowledgeable

First off I'll say there are 2 different types of comic book stores. The ones that are so sterile,…read moreclean and organized that you know there are no deals to be had or hidden gems to be found. There at also the stores that are so packed and disorganized that you couldn't find something to get a deal on if you wanted to. Rubber Chicken Comics perfectly straddles the middle ground of those 2 examples. There are loads of boxes with .50 cent comics, $1.00 comics & $5 comics that are regularly refilled and always have people digging through them. They also have an amazing selection of gently used $5 graphic novels. Besides the boxes that all deserve time to dig though they have a clearly marked and organized section of new weekly comics, a wall of recent back issues for on going series and organized bins of older back issues. Somehow this shop also gets the best "wall books" in the area! From huge key books to rare variants, complete sets to signed books, original art sketch covers to golden age back issues. The wall is ever changing with assorted rarities at amazing prices. In addition to the comics they also have action figures (new and old), statues, vintage toys and games and other assorted collectibles. They offer weekly subscription pull list service and allow you to change on a monthly basis and give a 10-20-% discount based on the number of books on your pull list. They have bags, boards, boxes and other supplies as well. I can't recommend this shop enough there is always a great conversation or debate going on and everyone is welcome from the most seasoned collector to the newest comic fan. There is some thing for everyone here! No intimidating clerks or judgmental "Comicbook guys". Check them out!!

On every vacation we go to, we always aim to head to local toy shops. So running into this joint…read morethis afternoon in Salem was a dream come true. Walking in, you are bombarded with every toy, comic and collectable imaginable. I was ready to find anything that I can add my to husband's collection. My husband is an avid collector of Transformers. Especially anything that's a Decepticon. I found the display of Blokees. Blokees does an amazing job with their Transformers collection. But my husband has completed a majority of the collections. But I did see Tarn and didn't know if he had it so I grabbed it just in case. I then made my way to some comics right by the Blokees. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything Transformers related. So when this sweet associate was walking past me, I pepped up real quick and asked her. She navigated me to the other side of the store. That's where all the magic was. Figurines, comics and Funko Pops. I weaved through 4 different collections of Transformers Comics and found a couple gems. I'm so excited that all 6 of the comics I got had Decepticons on the covers of them. 5 were Soundwave, my husband's favorite character. They were perfectly packaged with a hard backing to help maintain the integrity of the comic. I checked out with the sweetest employees. They were all so kind and helpful! I did end up not purchasing Tarn since my husband already had it. No pressure about not getting it and the associates were kind and put it away for me. This toy store exceeded my expectations. The employees are so kind. It literally has everything you can think of under one roof. A collectors dream come true. I'm so happy we ran into this toy store! I am excited that I found some treasures for my husband. If only all toy stores could be like this one. I'm sad that my husband couldn't experience this store with me. But if we ever come back to Salem, we will be heading to this store first.

I have participated in several events that they have hosted and with the massive collection of goods, I always feel like there's something for me to buy! In addition to their selection, the amazing communities, welcoming employees and environment, it is my go to shop! That being said, while I love the store, there is one glaring problem I've been experiencing. The basement, where I usually spend most of my time, has become unbearable! The heat always seems to be on max at all times or the ac isn't ever on and this issue has gotten to the point that I can't spend more than 5 minutes without sweating. Because of that, it loses a star on my review. I hope they can fix this issue especially with summer on its way!
